Cavaliers center Jarrett Allen has been named an All-Star replacement, the league announced today in a press release. Allen will sub in for Sixers guard James Harden, who will miss Sunday’s All-Star Game due to a left hamstring injury.
It’s a deserving honor for Allen, who is enjoying a career year in his first full season as a Cavalier after signing a new five-year contract with the team in the offseason. In addition to anchoring the Cavs’ defense, which ranks third in the NBA, the 23-year-old is averaging 16.2 points and 11.1 rebounds per game in 49 appearances (32.6 MPG). His 66.5% shooting percentage is the league’s second-best mark.
Allen is the second All-Star representative for a Cavaliers squad that ranks third in the Eastern Conference with a 35-22 record, joining teammate Darius Garland. Allen and Garland will play in their home arena on Sunday, as this year’s All-Star Game will take place in Cleveland.
Harden, the final player selected in last Thursday’s All-Star draft, was part of Team LeBron, so Allen will join LeBron James‘ roster for Sunday’s game.
Allen beat out other All-Star candidates such as Pascal Siakam, Jrue Holiday, and Jaylen Brown to take Harden’s place. It’s possible another replacement player will be necessary if Zach LaVine is forced to miss Sunday’s game due to his knee injury. If LaVine bows out, the replacement would again come from the Eastern Conference and would join Team Durant.
Rockets lose
They traded away Allen to Cavs for Bucks 2022 first round pick
IMO
Bucks are going to be 1 seed in regular season in East
Your hatred for the Rockets is at the extreme. You must be a hoot to be around.
@Sillivan
No. Allen was traded directly to the Cavs with Tausean Prince. Cavs traded Dante Exum and 1st rounder to Rockets.
This is the right decision
That trade was so lopsided in favor of Cavs.
Happy for Allen. He’s been an elite defender since entering the league, but, for one reason or another, never got the respected as such.
Strange road for a guy who hit the ground wowing people. Nagging injuries, benched for a stiff in DeAndre Jordan, because the latter is FOK, rejected by HOU as a trade piece, such that the Nets had to offer him around the league for a late 1st, mindless babble about being duplicative with Drummond/ McGee, Mobley and he not being a fit and of course his contract being inflated. Guess if a guy is good enough, none of that matters in the long run.
Pascal is having a better season than both Brown and Holiday based on both traditional and advanced stats (check the links if you don’t believe me). He should be the next one in.
Indeed Siakam should have been ahead of Allen… but hopefully he will be the next in for ZLV!
Jrue & JB just wouldn’t be serious to include them, I mean it would be terrible as a matter of fact, Vucevic, Bam, Kyrie, Miles Bridges, JR, Rob Williams, Capela, Harris & Beal should all be picked before Jrue & you can add KP6 & JC to all afore mentioned before you pick JB!
I remember watching Jarrett Allen, Spencer Dinwiddie & Caris LeVert on the Nets along with Kenny Atkinson as coach. Thought the Nets were a coming team. Then Kyrie started talking about him & Durant & the “brain trust” blew up the Nets to buy a title. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn’t.
Breaking: hindsight is 2020!
If superstars are available you take them. Teams like Cavs this year are the exception not the rule, and even they probably won’t go very deep.
It’s easy to hate Kyrie right now. Very mainstream…
Really …… There’s only one way to build a Team. That’s thru the draft. Cavs are perfect example. They got Allen for a pick. Very few can go get FA stars. Cause you need cap space. And talent on team for them to sign there. And the timing has to be right for team and FAs.
Heat, Warriors, Lakers (Bron, KD). Only Heat signed 3 star FA and had success. So this is the exception not the rule.
Herro cmon man lol
Allen deserves it .
Kyrie is poison to a team. But I hope the mandates get lifted and the Nets can play at full strength. They one last night without one of the new big three.
Will Allen be allowed to play any defense in the All Star game?
