Knicks center Mitchell Robinson is uncertain of his long-term future in New York, writes Marc Berman of the New York Post. Robinson will be an unrestricted free agent this summer.
“Whatever happens, happens,” Robinson said of his future with the Knicks. “It’s still in the season. You’re not worried about the offseason or the break.”
Berman notes that the Pistons, Pelicans and Mavericks have all previously been mentioned as being potential suitors for the 23-year-old defensive stalwart during the 2022 offseason.
“He’s very gifted,” head coach Tom Thibodeau said. “I think he’s learned a lot over the last couple of years. I think he knows his opponents a lot better and [he is] a lot stronger than he was three years ago, when he came into the league.”
There’s more out of the City That Never Sleeps:
- The struggling Knicks have plenty of roster decisions to make ahead of this Thursday’s NBA trade deadline. Fred Katz of The Athletic considers which New York players are the best bets to be traded, identifying veteran guards Kemba Walker, Evan Fournier and Alec Burks as this week’s most likely trade candidates. Katz pegs New York native Walker, in the first season of a two-year, $18MM contract he signed in free agency with the Knicks last summer, as the most probable candidate to be shipped out.
- Young Knicks guard Immanuel Quickley has seen his scoring take a dive during his second season, writes Steve Popper of Newsday. Entering tonight’s game, Quickley, who has slid behind Walker and Quentin Grimes in the club’s guard rotation, has connected on just 28.6% from the floor and 28.8% from long range across his last 13 games. “I think when he gets a couple easy shots, then I think he can get into rhythm,” coach Tom Thibodeau said optimistically. “We believe in him. We believe in his shot. He’s got a great shot. Just take the right ones, take the open ones, and if you’re guarded well — you’re seeing more blitzes. You’re getting a lot of attention. Just get off the ball. Don’t fight the pressure.”
- The Knicks have gotten off to an 0-2 start to their current road trip as they continue to search for a cure to what ails them ahead of the encroaching trade deadline. The team has also lost eight of its last ten games overall. Embattled power forward Julius Randle appeared to chalk up the club’s issues on the jaunt to chemistry problems, as Marc Berman of the New York Post details. “I just feel like sometimes we have to be more aware of what’s going on and execute on both ends of the floor,” he said. “We gotta be more aware. A couple possessions in a row that aren’t good possessions, we just gotta be more aware and tighten things up on both ends.” Following an All-NBA 2020/21 season, Randle production and value as a primary scoring threat have fallen off during a mediocre ’21/22 campaign.
Just a total mess right now. Like a car wreck, can’t seem to look away.
Like this guy ever looks …….
The troll of the board ……..
Knicks have the potential to be the most interesting team at the deadline depending on what they want to do with the 23 season
As much as Burks and Noel help the Knicks on the court (plenty) I think their best use for the franchise is to be dealt in the next 48 hrs
Id like to see them open up 20 mill of cap for next year as well and take a stab at Brunson with it
Ibaka for Kemba
and
Burks + 2nd for Taurean Prince+ protected 1st achieves that(*Maybe NYK can squeeze Bolmaro)
NOTHING Earth shattering should go down but I think they should play some cards
This is pretty much where I am. I came in expecting minor moves weighted toward the sell side, and I’m back to expecting that. At a minimum, they have to move a wing to get Reddish minutes. Burks has been great for 1.5 years, but he’s older than the others with a movable contract. I don’t expect to acquire a starting PG, or any other player that figures to be here long term. But they’ll take a look, as the price for starters and short rotation players isn’t that high (so far).
Clipps have to trade Ibaka expiring for any asset value/cut tax player not Kemba.
As much as i don’t like the POR/LAC move i think NYC have to pull the trigger quick and clear Burks, Noël, Fournier and Kemba deals to bé able to trade for Brogdon, Dinwiddie, Turner, Grant … But i think NYC will do nuthin
Trade 1. Dallas 1st burks noel for Myles turner
Trade 2. Brunson Dorian Finney smith and dwight’s powell for ny 2023 first kemba walker, Immanuel quickley and Mitchell robinson.
Trade 3 julius randle for joe ingles Royce oneale
Trade 4 Fournier 3 second rounders for beasley and jarred Vanderbilt
All of the trades…LOL
Time to blow it up as we have no real chance of playoff advancement. Need to give the youngsters a chance and get a couple of veterans with mentorship skills and strong characters. For this we do two trades:
Harrison Barnes for Alec Burks, Nerlens Noel and a second round pick plus
Russell Westbrook for Randle and Fournier
For whatever reasons it appears that Fournier is not a long term fit with the Knicks. Trade him now while he is productive and healthy to a team that is in the playoff hunt. Robinson will be extended, I would like to see them get Schroeder and see how he fits, he has some grit, might do OK in NYC.
What they need to do is pretty obvious: convert short-term assets into draft picks, and increase the playing time of long term assets to build value so they can be traded in the off-season. They had a nice run last year, but this team is absolutely nowhere near being a contender. Pointless to just flounder the way they are. Better to build for a great future than a mediocre present.
If you watch this team and care in anyway. You should be asking yourself. What’s the difference between last yr and this yr. That’s the place to start. Last yrs Knicks had same record at half way point. They made their push in second half of season.
This yr does not look promising. Cause it seems like the same issues are still ailing them. PG play and Randle reverting back to two yrs ago. TD has to change something.
Me I’m good with a lottery pick. Just move Randle now. I’ve had all I can take.
so in other words you’re saying the Knicks are “Just a total mess right now,” yet you continue to watch them “like a car wreck, can’t seem to look away.”
So once again you agree with me despite calling me a troll. Your opinion changes not just post to post but comment to comment!
My opinion hasn’t changed in the 6 yrs Ive been here. Neither has your shorts. Dude the odor of your negligence for intelligence. Comes thru my screen.
You think comments on the Knicks moves me. It’s just seeing how uninformed posters like you can be.
But we all know you’re only trolling to get a rise from folks, right. Why exactly do you post about the Knicks.
Funny. Randle cites “chemistry “ problems but forgets that they begin and end with him! He holds the ball too long and passes with no time on the shot clock. Plays zero defense and walks to the defensive end after missing a shot. Oh…and sulks, whines, and has emotional outbursts. What a hypocrite.
Did you see the video where he got into it with an assistant over a laptop? You’d think dude could afford his own laptop.
Some people make it all about me me me
Knicks are still rebuilding. It’s never been about Randle. He’s just riding his good performance from last yr. At some point you have concentrate on what’s really important. That’s the youth taking over. Like RJ, Mitch, Grimes, Obi, Cam, McBride, Sims the FIVE #1 picks we got coming. NY isn’t patient but I am.
