Kemba Walker admits he’s struggling with his reduced role on the Knicks, Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News writes. Walker didn’t score against Memphis and Sacramento in his last two appearances. He scored in single digits the previous four games.
“It’s pretty difficult,” Walker said. “It’s just so different. I’m in a whole different position and role. But yeah, that’s on me to learn how to play with guys and learn when to get my shots and it’s just taking more time than what I’d like.”
The team’s brass is reportedly looking to move Walker before Thursday’s trade deadline.
We have more on the Knicks:
- While Alec Burks has been mentioned frequently in trade rumors, the Knicks are seemingly not eager to move him, according to Ian Begley of SNY TV. They’re open to including Burks in a trade if it allowed them to shed other veterans but they’re not interested in trading Burks alone to create a spot in the rotation, according to Begley’s sources. Burks’ contract runs through the 2023/24 season, though the final year is a team option.
- Mitchell Robinson was a bright spot in a loss to the Grizzlies, contributing 14 points, 11 rebounds and a whopping eight blocks. RJ Barrett said good health has allowed Robinson to show his talent, Marc Berman of the New York Post writes. The young center, who is currently extension-eligible and will be an unrestricted free agent this summer, was sidelined earlier this season by a concussion and fractured hand. “He’s just healthy,’’ Barrett said. “Now you’re seeing a guy getting in a groove. He’s such a gift offensively and defensively.”
- With all the chatter surrounding the team, it seems almost inevitable the front office will make some moves before the trade deadline. The Athletic’s Fred Katz and John Hollinger discuss the front office’s potential approach in the coming days.
Pretty disrespectful to Kemba. Brought him on to finish his career in NY and now they want to ship him out so they can finish in 9th instead 10th.
Makes you wonder about the character of the org. This hose ain’t loyal…smdh
Kemba sucks this year and is hurting the squad, the nba is a business my child, you don’t produce you are gonna be moved that’s how it goes, the Knicks don’t care about a nice story, kemba will be forgotten a few years after his retirement, you remember Mitch Richmond? Good player in the 90s doesn’t matter when you talk about the 90s nba
Nope. He was brought here at his (agents’) request, to extricate him from OKC which was about to send him to The Horford Room. He wasn’t a FA that the NYK pursued. He was promised nothing in terms of PT or role. The Knick situation would have made that impossible, and he knew that or should have.
This is a different narrative than the one getting pushed at the beginning of the season, FYI.
Revisionist history is convenient.
The only obligation the Knicks have right now is to get better for the future. THATS IT
So far, IMO, Rose has aced the job of leaving narratives at the door . Kemba fell into their lap (or should I say cap) ….Cap that they had in the first place because Rose DIDN’T chase narratives trying to appease a fan base that’s all over the map today.
While Rose might take a L in the gossip columns he’s set his team up with some nice moveable (for value) contracts instead off ill advisedly pushing too many chips into the pot after last years success. The only thing Knicks fan can hope for now is that Dolan extends the rope long enough to see the WHOLE plan thru
Pretty disrespectful of Kemba to suck and still collect a check.
Burks has been one of NY’s better players this year, so not a huge surprise FO isn’t stoked to move on from him
12th seed Knicks need to make salary dump trade
Top 5 pick is not a bad idea
Look at Blazers
ABC tonight
Shut down Davis, Lakers would look bad
If Lakers lose the game to Knicks tonight, Lakers fans would have to switch the topic to “Let’s talk about the Lakers history”.
From the Knicks perspective, they should tie Burks’ availability to whether or not they drop further in the standings between now and the TD, more than the ability to shed other vet contracts – assuming they get appropriate value, of course. What other vet contracts are they talking about? There are only two they should even waste time thinking about, Fournier and Randle (though the latter is only considered a bad contract on message boards, and even the former is not really a bad contract, at least not yet). Prune the depth chart getting value for the traded pieces, and move on.
Knicks are a dumpster fire, my 12 year old nephew could run that team better than the current FO
Don’t bring up loyalty. Kemba wasn’t loyal to this city when he was a FA and still in his prime. He signed with Boston of all places. I’m not faulting him, but just don’t think that NY owes his washed up self any loyalty either.
Let’s talk!
Let’s trade!
Knicks GMs are at Lakers now
Lakers are very interested in those Knicks
First off no one was brought here to finish his career. Try and catch up. Especially if you got answers ????
Why all this blame game. We informed people, knew this was a reality. No one expected Kemba to find his groove. We all hoped he’d share the PG with Rose. And give us 40-44 mins of production. But we knew there were no guarantees. So get off his jock and take a breath …….
Kembas future is probably at best. A Rose like role. A backup who can play solid mins (20-24) a game. We already have that player so obviously it ain’t going to work here.
Why is it that the critics here. Don’t know it’s Thibs second yr. Knicks are 4 gms out the 8th seed. So get a grip and try and learn the game. You don’t watch or you just don’t get it. But you got answers. Go learn it. If you want to rant.
Knicks will be in playoffs I Guarantee It. Trades are coming and we got more picks than anyone except OKC.
So stop showing us how much you don’t know. Why do you even care.
Thibs has coached 124 gms up to now. Can you feel that………
Let’s wait till TD. And Burkes is gone. Fournier is a better shooter and Grimes, Cam need mins. Geezzz why do I have to explain it all.
There isn’t much chatter about Knicks and TD. I thought Turner was a real possibility. But now that he’s hurt it makes no sense. We can go there at end of season. But PG is still the thing we need most. And Randle looks like he’s played his way out. He’s fighting with fans and media. And is losing his mind playing this yr. We don’t need that on a rebuilding team.
This is RJs team now. So I expect trades for players that will mix with him. At this point I’m good with Fox. He’s 24 and he can sped up our offense. Put in Obi to run with him. And move the ball stopper Randle now. Trades are coming. Time to get real and get Fox.
Randle was the new Patrick ewing in the summer and now he should go lol
You must be the tooth fairy …..
Kemba for Ibakas expiring…Who says No?
Minny is probably hesitant on trading 1sts today but what a better team they’d be with Burks for Beasley for the next 1.5 (possibly 2.5) yrs
I like(d) Beasley but his game has slipped everywhere this year. Feel Minnys gonna upgrade somehow and NYK makes a great match with them
Ibaka is fine. Seriously, as far as I’m concerned, as long as it doesn’t cost us anything (picks/greater salary), all Kemba has to do to get traded is say he wants to be traded and tell us the destination. I’m also content having him around. Best 15th man in the league.
In a Burks trade, I wouldn’t want to take back another wing. Part of the reason for moving him is to open up minutes. I’d rather a couple of 2nd’s or a protected 1st. If Minn isn’t into trading 1st’s even protected, well, I – as a Knick fan – understand.
Minnty can do Prince’s expiring and 2 2nds and find a new home for Beasley in the offseason as an expiring themselves I guess but….
Id bet they’d wanna take care of both in 1 swoop tho if possible , so taking Beasley might net the 22 1st (high teens most likely) .
Agree all my NYK plans circle around getting Obi Cam and these young guards PT…If they take Beasley they could use him as an expiring in the offseason as well (not that they don’t have a billion already but it opens up avenues like potentially matching Russ and buying him out for the LAL 27 1st for ex). NYK is set up very well this trade deadline, the offseason, and next TD to really help 24 and beyond…Very interested to see it play out….sooner the better Imo as the PT is needed yesterday for the youths
I got much bigger plans for Minny but damn Burks fits that team very well…too bad Beasley just hasn’t/isn’t progressing the way they hoped for them
Celtics need to make changes, Schroeder for Burks?
Why would the Knicks do that?
Because they need a point guard
Need to see what Deuce can do in the rotation before bringing in another PG. Rest of this season should be 100% about observations
No, we already have too many backup PGs or time share candidates. FWIW, the FO (pre-Kemba) passed on DS in the summer despite a friendly price.
The FO put the team in the situation they’re in now so maybe they need to rethink? Burks Noel Walker Fournier Rose…
Tick, tick, tick, tick, tick..
