Some of Seth Curry‘s family members may not have been pleased with Thursday’s trade that sent him from the Sixers to the Nets, but he’s looking forward to the opportunity in Brooklyn, writes Brian Lewis of The New York Post. Curry, who is married to the daughter of Philadelphia coach Doc Rivers, was part of the price the Sixers had to pay to bring in James Harden.
“I had a feeling if this trade did go down I was going to be a part of it,” Curry said. “I was preparing for the last week or so. I kind of prepared my mind for it, and I’m just looking forward to the next opportunity. I feel I can fit into a lot of different situations: Play with the ball, play without the ball. I’m just looking forward into coming here and trying to help these guys in whatever way I can.”
Curry ranks second among active players in career three-point shooting percentage at 43.7%, so his role should be obvious, especially on a team that might not get Joe Harris back this season. Curry became a full-time starter for the first time in his career during his year and a half with the Sixers and he’s averaging a career-high 15.0 points per game this season. Now he hopes to bring that same production to Brooklyn.
“Throughout my career, I’ve been somebody who has fit in with different types of star talent, whether it’s Luka [Doncic], [Damian Lillard] and CJ [McCollum], obviously Joel [Embiid],” Curry said. “It didn’t take me long to get used to playing with those guys, so I’m going to just try to come in and do what I do and try to do it within the concept of the team.”
There’s more from Brooklyn:
- The players the Nets acquired in the trade weren’t eligible tonight because Harden and Paul Millsap didn’t complete their physicals in Philadelphia until after the game started, tweets ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Curry, Andre Drummond and Ben Simmons have been cleared to play Monday against the Kings, but there’s no word on when Simmons might return to action.
- Kevin Durant is making progress in his rehab from a sprained left knee, but there’s still not a timetable for his return, coach Steve Nash told Nick Friedell of ESPN. Durant, who hasn’t played since January 15, is hoping to be back some time after the All-Star break, but everything depends on how his knee responds. “I feel that the next couple weeks that I’ll start to do more,” Durant said. “That’s probably as much as I can give you and I don’t know for sure. I’m just listening to the training staff, just doing my job and coming in and following the game plan every day. Whatever they give me. But from the last few weeks I feel like they’ll be able to give me more and more each day goes on, so I’ll ramp up here soon and we’ll see what happens. I want to be back as fast as possible but I also know that I don’t want to go out there and be 80%. I want to be 100 so I can be the best that I can be.”
- Kyrie Irving‘s part-time status has been called a distraction, but he’s not bothered by the situation, Friedell tweets. “There’s no guilt that I feel,” he said. “I’m the only player that has to deal with this in New York City because I play there. If I was anywhere else in another city then it probably wouldn’t be the same circumstances.”
I don’t know when Simmons is coming back(I do think he will play at some point this year) but no way that dude plays March 10th in Philly. NO WAY
Def not. Too bad you can’t bet on that as a prop. Or can you lol?
I’m sure his mental issues will flare up right right before that scheduled game.
I truly hope he does & destroys PHI with the best game of his career, that is something that all hoops fans would love to see, right?
I personally would love to see Simmons be forced to take 50 free throws at the start of the game. Hell, if he makes it to 35 without crying I’ll give him a $20
Your hate for the Sixers is comical at this point. Show us on the doll where Morey hurt you.
Lol. It’s ok to hate team(s) but u should still be able to have a basketball convo without looking stupid. It’s comical on here. 90% struggle with it. Very good point @jawn
Change your name Again …..
Now that’s comical ….. is this number 5.
I’ve had the same nickname since I joined this site a couple years ago. I didn’t even know you could change your username. You must be confusing me for someone else
I must … picture looks like AKA .
my apologies
You’re right Jawn. I should ogle over cry baby Simmons who hasn’t played in a year, hand the MVP to Embiid now, and scream from the rooftop that Daryl Morey is the smartest GM the National Basketball Association has ever seen. Don said Simmons destroying the Nets is something all hoops fans would love to see. I, being a hoops fan, would not love to see that and I even offered another scenario that I would like to see. If that displeases you I’ll be sure to take your opinions into consideration next time I have something to say
Simmons let the Sixers and fans down.
Kyrie with his “I’m the only player that has to deal this this” attitude is what pissed Harden off. “I feel no guilt”.
He came to try win a title expecting Kyrie and KD to play and once KD got injured Kyrie was still like nah idk I’m just a part time player.
“I’m rich and selfish. It doesn’t bother me at all.”
-Kyrie Irving
“It bothers me (a lot) that he’s allowed to make his own choices and I’m (much) poorer than him.”
-BillyTheFrog
Why wouldn’t Ben play March 10. Just better hope KD don’t play. Cause I’m sure he’s going for 50. This will be a good rivalry for yrs. I hope they all play.
It’s always good to know that your friendly neighborhood psychopath doesn’t feel guilty or distracted by the fact that they’re a gigantic distraction and ruining everyone else’s job/life/career/whatever.
Let us know when he and Kanye go out to a party and we’ll call it sports.
Seth curry is very underrated. Clutch clutch clutch. Smart with the ball. Sneaky on defense. Killer shooter. Loved him as a blazer. Not as flashy as his brother but the same DNA. A great pick up and badly needed for the nets. Under rated pick up of that trade.
Curry is sneaky on defense? So sneaky that it’s non-existent I guess. Same DNA as his brother? That’s pretty insightful as well…
Well see you in 23-24 man. Only will be like 33 so unless the shot falls apart hell get another deal.
Curry is a low volume shooter, brutal on defense. Small price to pay for the BEARD.
I hope he does play and Doc uses the hack a Simmons strategy at the end of the game and then winks at Ben as he misses them all. I’m sure the 35 million dollar player will be on the bench during crunch time.
Simmons needs to play point center and to do that, the Nets need to add a few stretch fours/fives to their roster (shoot the 3, rebound, defend the paint) like Ibaka, Brook Lopez, and Portis open up the court for Giannis. I hope Simmons vs Embiid becomes a serious rivalry. Simmons thinks he’s the best defender in the league…let’s see if he can guard Embiid one on one? Can he guard Harden?
First learn basketball positions lol.
People without ideas tend to mock the knowledgeable/creative. Mocking things we don’t understand is a sign of a primitive ethical evolution. If you wanna discuss basketball theory, I’m up for it anytime. If you choose to insult, don’t worry I won’t hurt your feelings. I never argue with a fool.
Discuss with that. Learn the game. Then you can criticize players or actions.
There is no game where Ben is playing Embiid. And being DPY is not based on size.
I’m glad to see you’re not letting your education get in the way of your ignorance.
Your response is pretty incoherent Al. Did you hit yourself on the head? When Embiid is out, Simmons plays a lot of center. You should try reading about it. Simmons did an awesome job last year against Gobert in the regular season and started at center in the playoffs against Washington.
I don’t care what you saw. Never in the history of mankind. Will you see Ben play Embiid. What part of this is hard to understand.
Centers play centers ALL game. That’s called a matchup. Not on a switch not because they go small. Ben is talented enough to play all positions on D. But he’s not going to cover Embiid ever. Cause he doesn’t need to play C. To me he’s not a PG either. And that’s part of Sixers failure. But to make a statement that Ben and Embiid would battle. Like Alcindor and Wilt. Ewing and Hakeem. Is just amateurish.
Ben is 6’10” , 240lbs
Embiid is 7’ , 280lbs
That’s not a CENTER matchup. Your ignorance is worse than your arrogance
Al, if you’re curious about people who think differently than you, you might check out an article in the Ringer from way back in May, 2019 by Jonathan Tjarks declaring that Simmons is a center. Of course, Simmons never got to be a center because Embiid can only play center and he does it an MVP level. And in my opinion, and of the opinion of many people, that’s why the Sixers never reached their talent potential (with 2 players that need to play center on offense they had no halfcourt spacing).
I’m not curious cause I don’t care. Matchups got nothing to do with thinking different. Dude I’ve been on this game longer than you been alive. Going small is not what we are talking about. It was a statement about one player playing another in a game. Ben would never cover Embiid in a game. Just like Embiid would never cover Ben. This is about two players. And dude Ben has never played center in NBA. And he doesn’t need the space that Embiid does. You two are made for each other.
You want me to school you two on the Center position. I will. Then you want me to school you on Bens position. I will too.
Ben Is Not A Center he has never in his NBA career played that position. And a coach would be fired for playing him there. Both you must have never balled. Especially if you need a writer to explain what you think.
In Drummond and Curry. Nets got help where they needed it. With Harris out and questions about when he will be back. They need a shooter and Curry is a good one. He will get plenty of looks with KD playing. Drummond is one of best rebounders ever. He’s avg 9 reb in 18 mins. Nets are currently 20th in the league. So they added two good pieces (good job). But as we all know. They need Kyrie full time. To make a serious run. I’m Nets I move him at end of yr, sign n trade. Why would you want him here.
