Kyrie Irving said the Nets don’t need to push the panic button despite a seven-game losing streak, according to Nick Friedell of ESPN. Brooklyn was blown out by Utah on Friday.
“It’s really just where we are, facing reality, that we’re not winning ballgames right now,” Irving said. “And we got to kind of get out of that hole with just one win and then start a new streak from that point. But no time to feel like our season is in doomsday or we need to push the panic button at all points, but we have to face reality that a lot of guys, a lot of my teammates, we’re still getting to know one another, how we play, what’s our spots, offensive and defensive tendencies.”
We have more on the Nets:
- According to a StatMuse tweet, the Nets should be in panic mode. No team that has suffered a losing streak of seven games or longer has ever won the NBA championship. Brooklyn is 2-8 since Kevin Durant was sidelined by a sprained MCL in his left knee.
- Reports surfaced this week that Joe Harris might need a second surgery on his ankle. Harris is hopeful that won’t be necessary, according to Brian Lewis of the New York Post. “In my mind, I’m confident that I’ll be able to get back,” he said. “I’ve been optimistic through this whole thing. I haven’t really lost faith in the fact that I’m going to be able to come back and play, and that’s the same spot that I’m in right now. I’m not going to just completely give in on what’s going on.”
- David Vanterpool was passed over for the head coaching job with the Timberwolves in the middle of last season. Now a Nets assistant, Vanterpool is confident he’ll eventually get an opportunity, as he told Marc Spears of The Undefeated. “I am still going to be a head coach one day,” Vanterpool said. “I know I am. I’m qualified to do the job.”
- A group of writers from The Athletic take a look at a potential James Harden trade to the Sixers, breaking down the financial implications and potential pieces Brooklyn could acquire.
I don’t think they need to panic because the losing streak is clearly caused by temporary injuries and not a fundamental flaw in the roster.
But they should trade Kyrie anyway because he’s insane.
I panic
Nets are likely to miss the playoffs
If you trade the insane player, he retires.
End of story
Nets are missing the playoffs with Kyrie Kevin Durant and James Harden lol
Aren’t
Nets are likely to miss the playoffs? What?
How is he insane again?
Wouldn’t call him insane, definitely a headcase. Who could’ve predicted that Kyrie would be an of court disaster?)))
“Who could’ve predicted that Kyrie would be an of court disaster?”

Especially after his rock solid time in Cleveland and Boston where he was the epitome of a team player. Cooperating and fitting in with this teammates, front office and coaching staff. It’s not like he expected everyone around him to suck up to him and put his concerns above that of anyone else in the organization.
You been following the NBA the past 4–5 years?

I ran a successful 3 team trade through ESPN’s trade machine between Brooklyn, Philadelphia and Portland. I’m sure some picks and other players could work but money wise it all matched up.
Brooklyn gets
CJ McCollum
Jusuf Nurkic
Eric Bledsoe
Shake Milton
Philadelphia gets
James Harden
Paul Millsap
Joe Harris
Portland gets
Ben Simmons
Tobias Harris
Nic Claxton
Nice trade newera. I like it!
Everyone gets what they want except for the players who get sent to the Nets. They may want to shoot themselves in the face after experiencing basketball life with Kyrie.
Trading Harden is the best move for the Nets. He may be saying the right things, but actions speak and there’s no way he’s signing an extension or coming back to this mess.
Only other thing is there are some restrictions in the CBA on how soon a player can get traded after a trade, but I don’t know if this applies to Bledsoe.
Bledsoe can’t be part of a big trade this season anymore, unless those rules have been changed.
Taking Bledsoe and Joe Harris out would still work out. Bledsoe is only owed 3 million next year and anyone could pay that out.
Portland traded Powell as a salary dump, clearly they want to save money. Why would they take on Harris and his gigantic deal??
They would want Harris to reload and show Dame they aren’t just giving up. I think Harris would be just want portland would want.
They should trade kyrie and harden. Then build around KD with some young players. Harden and kyrie done reach their peak and I don’t think the really care for basketball anymore
Kyrie and Harden are past there prime have you seen them? It would be a mistake to trade them both are great scorers.
@ Money Mike24 2;
Kevin Durant is 33 years-old. He played 14 seasons in the grueling NBA, and sat out one due to injuries. Professional athletes at that age with those sorts of miles on them, do suddenly get healthy for years. And when they have injuries, like all people aging – particularly athletes – the injuries take longer to heal.
Only in NYC that view professional sports as entertainment played by celebrities (that need lots of money and attention) as opposed to a competitive cut-throat profession, would an owner / front office put a team together with those 3 aging, egotistical guys leading it while taking the majority of the payroll.
The future of the Nets is to suck big time. It will take years for some people to come in and straighten out the damage.
“…we’re still getting to know one another, how we play, what’s our spots, offensive and defensive tendencies.”
It’s been 52 regular season games, plus the pre-season. These are professional basketball players. C’mon, how long does it take???
He’s only played in ten of them due to a reason he is completely within his power to control. They have been decimated by COVID and injuries at various points during the season. This brutal stretch shows that Durant is truly their MVP. Also, missing Harris has had a greater effect than one might have expected. Patty Mills has played admirably, but overall their three-point shooting percentage has taken a major hit without Joey Buckets.
Bledsoe can only not be traded to the clippers now.
There’s a real world where Brk comes out of this all the better by the time they tip the ball next year. Maybe not in a game 7 Kyrie in the zone, KD healthy, Harden in shape, but the other 364 days of the year YES
Brk has a couple things in their corner – No league wide cap avail in the offseason and S&T’s becoming oh so popular these days
Harden won’t be a problem
Kyrie, the 8th wonder of the world, could be a bit tricky albeit SUPER interesting. Im interested in the ext…Kyrie will probably get to select chose the non vax new team, that narrows the pool already (tho its prolly a 3 teamer neways).
Then it comes to the terms… like him or hate him he’s a PG, 29, an amzing player, and probably worth more than all the free agents combined this year (slightly kidding). There will be a market but I doubt we see a max ext…would love to see some hardball for past doubts he’s cast upon himself – Maybe a 3/100 ext w 3rd year half guaranteed? There has to be a discount on the risk…or does there??…This IS the NBA…..
Who do yall see Kyrie with next year and whats the ext look like?
Kyrie will be with BRK next year, he & KD are tight!
