The deal today between the Pacers and Kings that exchanged headliners Domantas Sabonis and Tyrese Haliburton, among others, could prove to be good news for remaining Indiana big man Myles Turner, says Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN (Twitter link).
According to Wojnarowski, Turner seems to be excited to play alongside Haliburton. Turner, currently recuperating from a stress reaction in his right foot, has had another solid-if-injury-plagued season with Indiana. Turner, averaging 12.9 PPG and 7.1 RPG this year, should see additional offensive touches as he shifts over to a full-time center role.
There’s more out of the Hoosier State:
- After opting to move on from two-time All-Star big man Domantas Sabonis, the Pacers will pivot its focus to Turner and budding second-year guard Tyrese Haliburton as they retool their roster, writes James Boyd of the Indianapolis Star. Boyd credits the Indiana front office with making the right call in moving perhaps its best trade chip for a possible future star in Haliburton.
- Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle raved about his team’s new additions tonight, per Scott Agness of Fieldhouse Files (Twitter link). Carlisle praised new wing Buddy Hield as a high-level shooter, and expressed his enthusiasm to work with Haliburton, hailing the latter as “an elite young point guard that affects the game positively in many, many ways.”
- In his first season back with the Pacers since 2007, returning head coach Rick Carlisle has become a key voice as the Pacers make roster decisions with an eye towards the future, according to Joe Vardon of The Athletic. “We’re putting together a path forward that is going to be a little bit different, obviously, after, after today and tonight,” Carlisle said after the team traded veteran wing Caris LeVert in exchange for the expiring contract of injured guard Ricky Rubio and three future draft picks.
There’s too many guards here.. Haliburton, Brogdon, Duarte, Hield, Rubio. They still have another wing in Warren to come back too. Do they make another trade before the deadline?
Brogdon, Rubio and something else for Simmons?
Haliburton, Hield, Duarte/Warren, Simmons, Turner would not be bad at all.
Brogdon and a bit of cap room next year definitely helps the Sixers.
Sixers would decline that deal. In fact that deal wouldn’t even get a call back
I don’t think Hield and obviously Rubio are in their long term plans. Had to take Hield to get Haliburton.
I don’t think Indiana can put together a trade package to land Simmons. They just sent their best trade asset to Sacramento and Sabonis wouldn’t have fit next to Embiid anyway.
Nobody is getting Simmons until Morey knows 1000% for certain that he can’t get Harden
How is it to many guards? You named 5…one of which is out for the season. Another of witch can play forward. 2 starters and two off bench. And Rubio out for season before free agency…
You cant trade Brogdon this year due ti his extension.
I think Brogdon-Haliburton-Duarte can play together. With Turner at C and these three wings/guards the Pacers look set today and for the future.
You realize Rubio is out for the season, right?
Trade Brogdan for Randle and a first
Halliburton Duarte Randle Turner
I had become kind of interested in the Pacers games, always a great joy to see Sabonis play… now I will have to start watching SAC’s games instead to see Sabonis!
I think IND has lost big time with this trade, however, that was probably their intention as now they are gonna be a much worse team, so they can get a better draft pick.
Last night Fox played great without Haliburton, you add Sabonis to it & now SAC looks like a very serious contender for the play-in this year & the playoffs for the next few years!
I never thought I would say this but SAC won a trade, I know, right?
Sounds impossible, but it is true!
With C-Webb & DMC, Sabonis is one of the 3 best players SAC has ever had!
The pacers definitely traded the wrong big guy. Sabonis was their best player, but I’d rather have Halliburton over Fox. Holiday is a hard loss for Pacer fans too.
El Don Always Wrong “I think IND has lost big time with this trade.”
The only person on the face of the planet that thinks Indiana lost the trade.
Sacramento traded a 21 year old stud who actually wanted to be in Sacramento for a 29 year old former all star who’s never been able to take a team to the next level. All just so the Kings can lose in the Play In to the Lakers. Oh and don’t forget Kings got Holliday in the trade who is unvaxed and said he will not get vaxed so he won’t even play home games
