The Sixers are expected to pursue Nets star James Harden in the days leading up to the February 10 trade deadline, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic, who reports that Brooklyn is now believed to be open to discussing a possible deal.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski said last week that the Nets wouldn’t consider moving Harden at the deadline, but Charania’s latest report suggests the team isn’t closing the door on the possibility. Sources tell Charania the 76ers and Nets are expected to engage in talks about Ben Simmons and Harden before next Thursday.
According to Charania, Nets officials don’t have any urgency to make a trade involving Harden and still view their roster as championship-caliber as is. However, if Philadelphia is willing to sweeten the deal by attaching more assets – including players like Seth Curry, Tyrese Maxey, and/or Matisse Thybulle – to Simmons, Brooklyn will listen, in case there’s a deal to be made that makes the team more well-rounded as it pursues a title.
As Charania explains, there have been some concerns in Brooklyn about Harden’s playing style, since the former MVP’s tendency to dominate the ball and play at his own pace contrasts with the more “free-flowing, organic” approach employed by Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. Head coach Steve Nash has met with the trio to try to find a balance and optimize the offense, per Charania, but the team has yet to hit its stride. Of course, that’s in part because the three stars are so rarely available at the same time.
Still, unless they have major concerns about the on-court fit and Harden’s flight risk in the offseason, the Nets seem unlikely to do anything drastic in the next six days. They’d want a “significant haul” from the Sixers, Charania writes.
Philadelphia has long been focused on landing a star in any Simmons deal, with Harden and Bradley Beal among the players at the top of their wish list. The expectation had been that a player of that caliber wouldn’t become available until the offseason, when both Harden and Beal can opt out of their respective deals.
The Sixers have projected a willingness to extend their standoff with Simmons until then, with Kyle Neubeck of PhillyVoice.com reporting today that a deadline deal involving the Defensive Player of the Year runner-up appears increasingly unlikely. If Harden is legitimately available ahead of the deadline though, or if the Wizards are willing to talk about Beal, that could accelerate Philadelphia’s timeline.
The 76ers also continue to discuss possible Simmons scenarios with other teams, according to Charania. Sources tell The Athletic that the Hawks have been the most engaged suitor in recent weeks, having discussed a framework that includes John Collins, Bogdan Bogdanovic, and draft picks.
The Timberwolves have also remained in touch with Philadelphia about Simmons and have been open to the idea of taking on Tobias Harris, says Charania. However, Minnesota isn’t willing to part with the draft assets the Sixers are seeking.
Disappointing…
Although I’m not a Kyrie fan, I’d immediately become a Nets fan if this trade happens… Please, please, please let Morey make this mistake.
Would make me instantly root against the 6ers…
I just really really dislike Harden and his ticky tack foul BS. Then when he whines anytime he doesnt get BS calls. Plus the ego on him despite zero rings I mean know your place “beard”.
6ers get Harden, a defensive liability. Nets get some defensive help with Simmons (should he return). I think I would stick with the Nets
I just root against Hardens team whoever that may be… Dude is just the worst kind of basketball to watch its like tooth ache basketball!
LeBron’s incessant whining and berating refs, who clearly fear him, is disgusting. He is the worst thing to ever happen to the NBA.
This hasn’t been an issue since like the first week of the season. Did you see the game they lost last week to the Warriors when Curry pulled the same crap? Don’t hear you calling him out. Hater!
@lil d mvc you have to admit, Harden is over hyped. Him and Morey can relive their days in Houston again. Since Harden went to Brooklyn, he never has been the same since leaving Houston. Brooklyn hasn’t done what Houston did. And Brooklyn has the names to do it with. Maybe Morey will offer Harden another Kardashian and his own personal beard groomer to play for Philly.
There’s a lot happening in this comment but what is wrong with a personal barber dude? Where is your chill! You have never been the same since you stopped being the same.
I am talking about his upgrade personal beard groomer. This one will braid the beard, worship the beard, and use the finest beard treatments that no other groomer can provide. All just to play in Philly!
Curry is literally the complete opposite of the ME ME ME ME ME style of Harden. His step back is a travel, and his fouls are all garbage. Lets see more 22 sec ISOs where no player but James touches the ball that sounds fun, not.
Bringing back the 90s burns just for you!
Harden: avg 10 assists per game 447 on the season
Curry: avg 6 assists per game 304 on the season
3 pts attempts? 601 for Curry vs 307 for Harden.
Who is “me me me”? The numbers don’t lie.
Feels good to dunk.
Harden has missed an awful lot of time, hasn’t he?
Maybe add Furkan or Shake, that’s about it.
WHAT lmaooo. Those 2 don’t have value to other teams. Philly fans REALLY overrate their own players, sheesh
How is it necessary for a 25 year old 3x all star w/3.5 seasons left on his deal, to have to add anything other than a salary match for a 31 year old former MVP who has been hurt most of the past 2 years.and a FA at the end of the year? Simmons had 1 poor playoffs, it’s not like he isn’t going to be a DPOY candidate for the next 8 years, who averages close to a triple double for his career. I wouldn’t trade Maxey or Thybulle straight up for Harden- I damn sure am not going to add them to Simmons so we can play them 4x a year for the next decade and Harden will be retired in 3 years
I know of another highly paid PG who can average a triple double and can’t shoot the ball and he gets publicly shamed about every 3 days. At least Brick can handle people being meanies on the internet without throwing a fit. Simmons is gonna retire face it
I mean Westbrick has all the same downsides as Simmons but also terrible defense and way sloppier passing. Hmm Ill take the one in his 20s who doesnt still think he is great while his once valuable skills erode.
They’d want a “significant haul” from the Sixers, Charania writes.
Last week
I predict that both Tyrese Maxey and Matisse Thybulle are in the trade package for Harden.
Harden has passed his prime.
Jesus Christ.
He’s not going to be included in any package for the bearded messiah figure.
According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Nets would want a “significant haul” from the Sixers.
Sixers fans don’t understand the meaning of “significant haul”.
Or they don’t care about dilutional asking price.
When was the last time two teams in the playoff race in the same conference made any significant trade midseason? These teams, with these players and these front office personalities, I think would be a miracle they pull this deal off. Bet against it.
@Cile…. Yes?
Why would you help the Nets in anyway. They have Harden. Morey wants Harden. But if he sets the Nets up for years by giving them Simmons, Maxey, Curry, etc… hes gone off the deep end.
I’m more in favor of Beal bc the Wiz won’t be a contender anyway.
Morey wont deal maxey but the nets will capitulate and take Simmons, curry and picks. Thanks Daryl for standing strong as true Sixers fans stood with you against the petulant child Simmons.
Dude you obviously don’t know your GM. He’s got a big one for Harden. Harden made him as a GM. He was nothing but a nerd with a computer.
Dude I’m taking the ill fitting harden off the nets hands just as the mad genius morey plotted, simply at our price. Simmons, curry and a pick friend. No to maxey, no to Matisse and the nets will still do this deal. Got it ????
Yeah you’re in charge. Go yell at Santa
1968 was 54 years ago. Acting like that’s some how relevant to todays fandom is weak sauce. At least pick something closer to 2022 like batteries and JD Drew.
1986 fan throws a knife at Wally Joyner in Yankee Stadium.
I’d say that’s probably worse than snowballs at a drunk Santa.
Ha they need Maxey because otherwise without Harden they have no PG for the games Kyrie cant play! LOLSOSLSOLOLS
I know if he trades a 25 year old 3x all star & DPOY runner up, a 21 year old PG who may be an all star as soon as Feb(if injuries occur) and a 23 year old wing who is the best defensive player in the NBA to a division rival who has no defense, no draft capital, and 2 30 some year old superstars, to get Harden, who he can get as a FA after the season, he better win 3 straight NBA titles, or he’ll be found in a dumpster outside the arena.
I can think of at least 3 players who are better defenders. Maxey is nice but I agree that Sixers fans drink a little too much team Koolaid. Lol
Harden has missed an awful lot of time, hasn’t he?
Moreyon is going down with Harden. They deserve each other.
I remember saying Harden would not work there. He’s too ball dominant. Unfortunately for Nets. Kyrie is not going to work in these conditions either.
So they need to fleece Moreyon. Gotta be more than Ben. And with Harden taking over at PG. Means Maxey is done there. For the money to work ……
Ben, Maxey, Curry, plus I want Bassey.
You can have Harden …….
To me Ben and KD are a great mix. Both are interchangeable at 3 or 4. To me Bassey has a future. He can learn and develop while winning as backup.
You have been a knick fan to long friend, you are accustomed to horrendous deals by overmatched general managers and incompetent ownership. Watch morey at work.
You need a brain. I could give a flying f,,,. What Knicks do. They never asked me. Fans only live with results. You right about one thing bad ownership. Another thing we can’t control. Don’t confuse knowledge with rooting for a team. Dolan got more money than any owner. And he’s thrown it around more than any owner. So make sense lol. This is Moreyons show. And he’s about to close down your future. Enjoy it.
Referring to one of the best GM’s in the NBA over the past 20 years by using childish names pretty much disqualifies you to me. (Have been watching the NBA for over 50 years.)
Mr. Morey had a team that was in sustainable contention for years, and his team may well have beat the Curry-Durant Warriors had Chris Paul not been injured in the playoffs. He brought sabermetrics to the NBA which is how he found productive players for his teams that weren’t salary cap-eating stars.
As for his messing up the Sixers – he’s stood tall against a weak narcistic player that thinks he’s bigger than the team (with an agent from an organization owned by the biggest narcistic player in the NBA), and forced said player to take his ball and go home because he won’t play team ball and take responsibility for his actions. Today, without the “superstar” playing, the team is in 3rd place in the Eastern Conference.
The NBA is now doing what MLB has done with teams such as the Rays and Brewers – using metrics to put together young teams that may not have big name stars; but play together, listen and work with their managers and coaches (as opposed to trying to get them fired), and WIN. Sixers are there with the Suns, Heat, Bulls, Cavs, Jazz, even Warriors and others. Those teams are fun to watch play. The torch is being passed from the Michael Jordan wannabes – that need to play with other stars because they can’t front a team on their own – to playing team ball.
The thing about you NYC sports fans is that you all see professional sports teams as entertainment where name “superstars” are a prerequisite to getting the fans attention. You all don’t understand team sports at all.
Excellent post…Morey knows what he is doing…go sixers
Are you in middle school or something? You type Moreyon in just about every post you make…did he steal your girlfriend or take your lunch money or something…
Wolves get Simmons and Harris
76ers get
Beverley expiring
Prince expiring
D-Lo
76ers save $10 million luxury tax this year and more next year.
To be fair, Wolves should add 2022 first round pick.
They also add McDaniels, McLaughlin, Vanderbuilt, Bolemro and Jaylen Nowell and 3 1s.
According to article, Wolves don’t attach any draft assets, so they have to include young players
lol they ain’t dealing Simmons for that
If 76ers dump DLo salary, they can
Sign free agent Harden in July
Lol d-lo is only helpful on a team where he’s the third or fourth option and making 15MM
I’d be ok with that, if the 76ers needed a PG. They don’t anymore. Maxey is better than Wally Pipp/Ben Simmons, for this team and possibly overall. They could use Beal, Harden, McCollum- whoever can provide better scoring than Seth Curry at which point Seth could be a great 6th man,;but to move Maxey or Thybulle- very young, inexpensive, future all stars /dpoy along with a 25 yr old 3x all star who just happens to be an idiot, for what would hopefully be a couple years left of Hardens prime (& healthy), is foolish (to be very mild)
Lol what?
Adding Harden would mean maxey would stay. It would make Curry the expendable one.
i’d rather keep Maxey and Thybulle, deal Seth. He’s a liability defensively and sometimes looks as disinterested as Harden has the past week
Also with that maxey has improved his 3pt shot this year as well. So it gives Harden more freedom to pick and roll(with Embiid) and also opens up the wing on drives by Harden for Maxey/Harris
yup, Maxey hits those catch n’ shoot 3’s at will
Maxey is gone in this deal. Nets are not giving him away. Plus he’s not getting mins with Harden. You need shooters around Harden. Morey at least knows that. Harden makes 44 mill. Ben makes 32 mill.
Rich wants Maxey to go with Simmons for dinner.
Rich is Maxey’s agent.
Like Westbrook, Simmons is not playable the final 3 minutes of 4th quarter.
It’s clear u don’t watch sixers basketball
It’s clear he has brain damage, after all, he is a Knicks fan.
Would it? Harden hasn’t played off ball much since his days in OKC. Not sure he would do much for Maxey’s development. curry’s floor spacing would work next to him though.
This is why it was smart for Morey to hang on to Ben instead of dealing him just to do it. Harden, Beal are legit options. I have worries with each player, but it’s better than what has been talked about before
Yeah Morey you hold that line for an aging fixer upper super star thats about to be wildly over paid for the next 5 years!
BKN will sit down. But PHI isn’t coming away with Harden unless it’s completely on BKN’s terms. Even if Harden asked BKN to sit down with PHI, there’s nothing in it for BKN to make this deal at this time absent a lopsided return.
The fact that it’s even being floated that BK is hearing Morey out must mean there’s some serious discontent with Harden in Dumbo right now.
I would assume Maxey, Simmons and 1-2 firsts would be the bare minimum Brooklyn would demand. Given Maxey’s emergence (and Brooklyn’s lack of depth) a deal based around that framework isn’t absurd for the Nets.
But why let Harden and Embiid team up in your division….not to mention the questions around Simmons
If I’m Marks, I’d sit down with Morey to try and get a read on what he’s up to. But I’m not trading him Harden in-season, almost regardless. Marks’ has put the resources of the organization and the billionaire owner ON this big 3 for a minimum of two seasons (last and this). KI might be part time, but the other 2 still project at their healthiest in these 2 seasons for the playoffs. No dominant team in the East. I’m going for it. Even if I got Simmons and Maxey together, I won’t have the same chance.
On the flip side, if Simmons stays on Philly, their off season offer for Harden via S&T won’t be much different than the TD offer. Simmons’ value can’t increase (only decrease) because he’s not playing. Harden’s can go down, I guess, but I’ll risk that.
Agreed. I’m wondering where it’s getting leaked that BK all of the sudden “will listen” to offers—as you said, BK can keep JH and try to make a run this season with Philly weaker. Then do the trade in the summer.
Only thing I can think of is Morey is finally being pressured to make a move and BK thinks they can squeeze a godfather offer from him for Beard. Should be interesting
Brooklyn knows that Harden is leaving at the end of the season regardless. The 6 game losing streak that ended with a loss to SAC where Harden had 4 pts, Kyrie 10 pts, in over 32 min has made them realize that they aren’t winning it this year anyway, so it is BRK’s best interest to make a deal now, especially for a 25 year old defensive gem, who looks to pass 1st (could be a good thing for BRK). I think they have more incentive to make this deal than PHI does right now.
Again, not really a fan, but KD is not playing; explains alot. . but why would Harden choose Embiid over KD? KD is a champion.. Embiid is more likely to get injured or choke in the play-offs. I’d bet on KD.
This trade makes no sense, though. This sounds more like BKN messing with Simmons’ trade value. Dame for Simmons? No more like Simmons and the rest of the PHI future for Harden. Or Fox and Hield and stuff for Simmons. Makes PHI look weak.
i think people are underrating how much Simmons actually helps BKN defensively. His ballhandling can take pressure off KD and Kyrie too. BKN has zero leverage with this Harden situation. Simmons and a pick, or Danny Green/ Seth Curry is a win for them.
In theory Simmons is a great fit next to Kyrie and KD. But we haven’t seen Simmons play since last Spring and Kyrie currently can’t play in NYC.
And Brooklyn actually has some leverage. Arguably quite a bit.
True, Harden can walk this summer … but not to Philly. So if he wants to reunite with Morey then Brooklyn needs to be on board. I think Simmons-Maxey-picks is the bare minimum needed here.
Why do you think that he couldn’t walk to come to Philly?
$$$? 76ers can trade Simmons/Harris and get a package from Sac/Min and a cquire a few expiring deals with the trade. That is a simple fix
Simmons, Thybulle and a protected first for Harden and Millsap.
I’d happily get rid of Thybulle and a late first for secure Harden early and give us a chance this postseason. Plus Millsap gives us some need depth at PF.
This is the problem.
Whoever is available, Lakers have no assets to offer.
For instance,
Covington and Norman Powell
Seth Curry and Thybulle
Pursue does not mean a deal is coming. We know Moreyon has a big one for Harden. We know Nets do t have Kyrie this yr. With KD getting banged up. They’ve seen the real Harden. All about himself. And he wants a ring cause time is his comp now.
Ben is a great mix for KD. So it is worth looking into it for them. Nets can hold onto Harden for another yr. His money comes off then. So that’s plenty of money to sign FA. They can play hardball with Harden and Moreyon ………
Sixers are idiots to keep waiting on a Ben trade. Considering it’s Embiid team. Harden is available now and at end of year. Which is best for Sixers. Might as well get him now. Try it for a yr. So you know to sign him or not. Just show him all the strip clubs in Philly first ……..
That’s weird, I could have sworn Irving played in their last three games. But you claim they don’t have him this year. We all must be hallucinating seeing Kyrie on the court.
Kyrie plays on the road only
I don’t understand why Morey would even consider trading Simmons within the division, where the 76ers would have to face Simmons at least 4x a season for possibly the next 10 years, in exchange for Harden, who they can sign as a FA after the season for nothing if they do things right. Harden, when he’s healthy and on, is great. However, he’s on the wrong side of 30,and been hurt quite a bit the past 2 seasons. While he and Embiid could play a great pick and roll together, Maxey is a 21 year old star in the making, and he is 1 of the fastest players in the NBA. Thybulle is probably the best defensive player in the NBA and is starting to develop offensively. If Morey does this deal, Maxey, & Thybulle should be 100% untouchable. I think Harden makes 8/10M more than Simmons, so Danny Green’s contract would fit well, but that is about the extent of what I’d add into this deal. A 25 year old, 6’11 PG/Wing,who has been to the last 3 all star games and was 2nd in DPOY, w/ 4 years on his deal left, should be more valuable than a 31 year old, former MVP who has had health problems and will be making over 40M per season + you’ll have to resign him after the year.
“I don’t understand why Morey would even consider trading Simmons within the division, where the 76ers would have to face Simmons at least 4x a season for possibly the next 10 years…”
–
Because Morey knows he’s weak-willed choker with no backbone come crunch time?
U want some peanuts with that salt lol
If morey trades maxey he’s an idiot
I would assume Simmons Maxey and Thybulle would all be going to Brooklyn
IF Morey had 100% certainty Harden would decline and sign in the offseason there was/is a world where Philly could trade Ben and Tobias’s contract , net the resources (picks), and still open enough free cap to sign James outright next offseason
It would take a 3rd and probably 4th team to enter the deal (with quality expiring’s for Philly) with Philly & Sac (* Minny w expiring’s Okc for the ledger gymnastics )
Ofc it’s premised on skirting the tampering bi-laws of the NBA at it’s heart but what better character to pull off the devious heist than Morey
How is it necessary for a 25 year old 3x all star w/3.5 seasons left on his deal, to have to add anything other than a salary match for a 31 year old former MVP who has been hurt most of the past 2 years.and a FA at the end of the year? I’m not doing anything except Simmons and Furkan if it’s just a 2 team trade. I think a 3 team trade makes the most sense.
Sixers – Harden
Nets – Barnes, Hield, Bagley
Kings – Simmons, Harris, Furkan
Sixers – Harden, Milsap
Nets – Turner, Warren, Lamb, LeVert
Pacers – Simmons, Harris, Furkan, Sixers 22 1st
LeBrons favorite scenario:
Sixers – Harden, Milsap
Nets – Westbrick, THT
Lakers – Simmons, Harris, Furkan
Sixers – Harden
Nets – CJM, Nurkic
Portland – Simmons, Furkan
Agree and agree
I like the idea of ATL getting involved w Collins but worry bout a KD/Collins overlap . Probably moot as KD would find a way to make it work and I love Collins
ATL has some great great great pieces for Brk…ID almost like their team more with what could {possibly} be gotten for Harden in this 3 team scenario. This hinging on ATL is pumped on Ben still …… If Im Brk and KD I say yea lets do this today, Id be happy with a Sac package as well if Im Brk.
Can the sixers even trade furkan this season? I don’t remember when he signed his extension
76ers can not trade Korkmaz-
I like this idea:
To BRK: D.Fox & ,D.Galinari 2022 PHI 1st rd pick
To SAC: Simmons, T.Harris, J.Springer
To ATL: M.Bagley,B.Hield,& H.Barnes
To PHI; Harden,J.Collins,& Sacramento’s 1st rd pick in’22
Furkan is trade eligible
Is it possible the Nets are simply blowing smoke to prevent 76ers from shipping Ben elsewhere and improving the team before the deadline?
If we get to the 11th and Ben is still there after a “Brooklyn pull out” saga. Could be underhanded tactics. “Oh don’t trade him we’ll deal harden to you, just give us time” then nothing happens.
Two rivals vying for a deep run trading superstars with each other just seems to off.
Of course, it’s a part of the process. Reconnaissance too. Nobody walks into a negotiation without more hidden agendas than stated ones. FO’s have to be able to read these things, and react in the way that benefits them.
Problem the Sixers have it is that BKN has no incentive to make a deal now (other than to prevent another Sixers’ trade now). BKN almost can’t improve for this year via a BS trade (getting BS vs Harden), whereas Philly almost certainly will (getting Harden vs nothing). This is true with any trade partner, but BKN is “all in” (100 mm in tax) this season.
That’s my point, Nets have no incentive to move him. They could still have all 3 Kyrie Harden and KD available for the post. They made all their moves as win now mentality. Even if harden doesn’t re-sign.
Sixers and in particular Morey better ship Ben for a piece before TD and help Embiid, one good trade and I’d put them as one of the favourites, easily. If they don’t make a move I just don’t think they’ll do it all on Joel’s back. Holding out for a star is a bad call.
If I’m Philly I’d rather push for a ring with a good group of players than try for a star in the off get what you can for Simmons now and make some moves to get what you need.
I’m here for the Kyrie/Simmons drama of the future
When Durant is injured, both Irving and Simmons quit at the same time
Looking forward to seeing Simmons play again. Maybe playing with a superstar vet like KD will sort out the attitude issues and he’ll play the role required?? Will be interested to see if anything has changed.
One thing that has changed – the new interpretations of fouls on D suit no player better than Ben. Thybulle and Simmons would def give the Nets a different look at that end of the floor, prob one that would smother Harden in a 76ers uniform.
I hope they do trade…..purely to see how this pans out….popcorn anyone??

you can say Morey will try and get Harden at whatever cost but he literally had the chance last year and bowed out. yes the Sixers package was rejected, but he still could have made a bonkers offer if he was that much a nutcase as is claimed. he didnt.
#FreeBenSimmons
Nets fans are delusional. Harden forced his way out of Houston and picked the team he was going to. if Harden can be a FA this offseason and tells Nets he is leaving, but wants to be traded to 76ers- there is NO leverage for the Nets. Deal would basically be Simmons and salary filler player for Harden. If Nets are lucky 76ers throw in a young player like Joe.
What about Tobias Harris, Seth Curry and Andre Drummond and some picks of sorts for James Harden, Paul Millsap and Jevon Carter. And go tell Ben Simmons that’s he never has to shoot a three ever again and report back.
Or trade Ben Simmons, Tobias Harris, Seth Curry and Andre Drummond.niang and picks of sorts for Bradley Beal, Kyle Kuzma, Spencer Dimewiddie and Montrez Harrel
