The Kings have made on major trade already this week, sending three players, including Tyrese Haliburton, to Indiana in exchange for a three-player package headlined by Domantas Sabonis. However, they may not be done dealing yet. A front office source who spoke to Steve Bulpett of Heavy.com believes there’s another Sacramento move on the way before Thursday’s deadline.
“That one (the Sabonis trade) is just Part One,” the source told Bulpett.
Kings forward Harrison Barnes remains a candidate to be moved, according to Chris Mannix of SI.com, who hears from sources that the team is expected to “aggressively” explore the market for Barnes.
There should be no shortage of suitors for Barnes, a solid defender who is knocking down 40.5% of his three-point attempts this season and has a reasonable contract ($20.3MM this season, $18.4MM next year). Marc Berman of The New York Post, who hears from multiple sources that the Kings would be open to moving Barnes, reports that the Knicks are one team that has inquired on the veteran forward.
Here are a few more trade rumors from around the NBA:
- The Jazz have expressed interest in trading for Rockets shooting guard Eric Gordon, league sources tell Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. As Scotto writes, Utah has been dangling Joe Ingles‘ expiring contract and a future first-round pick in the hopes of adding a wing, while Houston has sought a first-rounder in any deal involving Gordon.
- While ESPN’s Brian Windhorst (video link) thinks there’s a real chance of the Nets and Sixers completing a James Harden/Ben Simmons trade this week, Brooklyn head coach Steve Nash said on Tuesday that he expects his roster to be the same after Thursday’s trade deadline as it is now, according to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports (Twitter link).
- Whether or not they trade Simmons, the Sixers are in the market for another backcourt player, head coach Doc Rivers said on Tuesday (Twitter link via Gina Mizell of The Philadelphia Inquirer). “We have no choice. We have to get another guard,” Rivers said. “We just do. Even if Furk (Furkan Korkmaz) and Shake (Milton handle the ball), we need a point guard, and we’re looking. But they don’t grow on trees, as you know.”
Make a good deal with Barnes, especially if it’s of the expiring + young player (or pick) variety, and I’m beginning to REALLY like what Sacto is doing. Sabonis is such a better fit for that roster than Fox and Haliburton and Mitchell all sharing the backcourt, and if they can clear a bunch of space and sign or draft some wings, they might finally break through.
I don’t understand why the Kings drafted Davion Mitchell when their backcourt was kind of set already? Wasn’t there a wing guy available for them to pick up with that slot?
Even Chris Duarte or Moses Moody can be wing shooters. Why pick after a 6-2 ball handling guard when you have Fox and Haliburton?
Always pick talent over fit …
Yes and I agree with that wholeheartedly. Absolutely 100%. Always pick the best player.
I guess that answers my question. Though I think Chris Duarte and Moses Moody will be pretty good and I don’t think Davion Mitchell is Head and Shoulders above them. Am I wrong?
Right now is not, in my opinion
Because you pick best player not for need
Maybe Berman isn’t as useless as I’ve been saying. He’s let us know with certainty that the Knicks won’t be one of the teams pursuing Barnes.
Still in shock they actually traded Haliburton. What an incompetent franchise.
Here’s what’s funny, Tyrese Haliburton was really hyped up in the days leading up to the draft as a fantastic player and pick, but he slid down the draft anyway. I wonder why because he turned out to be a great player?
I’d say he’s a precocious player. He entered the league as a fully formed NBA guard with an NBA skill set, which most guys don’t. And he ended up on a team that played him constantly and for which he was a main offensive weapon. So of course he looked great, and I don’t think anyone is surprised. But the question is, how much better does he get? He doesn’t play defense, for one thing. For another, is there any more athleticism there once teams take away parts of his offensive game? I think this was a smart bet by the Kings. Although Fox is the inferior player right now (wasn’t last year, but is this year) he’s the one with the one great tool (speed and athleticism) and Sabonis — if they can hang onto him — is the far better fit. Getting off of Hield’s bad contract and attitude was important too.
Rockets need to let EG go to a contender if they’re getting a 1st. He’s paid his dues with the franchise and his value is certainly higher than I can see it being again.
+ 18M$ contract to swallow next year
Ok deal if JaeSean Tate comes with E.Gordon for a 1st pick + Ingles & Elijah Hughes expiring/Jared Butler or Paschall ?
I doubt the Rockets are interested in dealing Tate. I feel the team views him as the vocal leader and he’s still young.
I like the idea of Gordon in a jazz uniform but I think a 1st is an awful lot to give up as he doesn’t put them over the top.
What kind of player for a late 1st will put you over the top? Gordon gives Utah a good 3 point shooter and defender. He can put the ball on the floor and get to the basket, as well.
They need that but they need a defender with size worse. If a late 1st and Ingles expiring can’t get them that then just flip Ingles contract and hold the pick until something better comes along.
How about John Wall for first round and Ingles? If none of you Jazz fans think EG isn’t worth that much. At least EG is playing and doing it well right now.
Jazz got NAW so i’ld like E.Gordon to Dallas for 2022 first and Moses Brown + Ntilikina / Josh Green / Sterling Brown
Why would the Nets want to get rid of Harden? Also, is it possible Simmons refuses to play for the Nets once he gets there?
Harden doesn’t want to be there..all signs are pointing to it and his interest in playing hard is visibly not there… I can understand it with Kyrie only playing half the time which ruined chemistry.. but this is same stuff he pulled with Rockets to get traded. Plus why would u want him when he wants 50 mill plus a year? Already showing signs of degressing and new foul rule isn’t helping him either.. I’m not huge fan of Simmons but I’d trade Harden for him in a heartbeat if I could get Seth Curry with him or draft pick or another player.. Maxey won’t be included to get deal done though.. if Sixers get Harden they will regret it over next 5 years though I promise
Do Korkmaz for Craig.
Pacers want Korkmaz.
Forget needing a point guard. With Simmons out he’s the guy we are missing and once we get Harden he will get loads of touches.
In the offseason do
Simmons, Thybulle and a first for Harden
Get a couple other vets for cheap in FA
Leaving is with something like
1. Maxey. Curry. Shake
2. Harden. Green. Ellington
3. Craig. Niang.
4. Harris. Johnson. Reed
5. Embiid. Bradley. Bassey
Randle for Barnes….. that’s a good start.
#FreeBenSimmons
How about Tobias Harris & Jaden Springer for Julius Randle? Knicks can lose a few years off Randles $$; for thr 76ers, Randle won’t have to do as much !
