The Warriors remain committed to their “two-timeline plan” and aren’t expected to make any sort of major move before today’s trade deadline, writes Anthony Slater of The Athletic. Golden State has young players such as James Wiseman, Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody who could help land an immediate difference maker such as Pacers center Myles Turner, Slater adds, but the Warriors aren’t willing to risk their future to improve their championship odds this season.
Stephen Curry said he hasn’t talked this week with general manager Bob Myers, which Slater states is notable because teams usually discuss deals with their star players before they occur. Draymond Green also hinted recently that the Warriors intend to stand pat.
“We have found a great mix of youth and experience,” Green said. “I don’t think — it’s not my role, my job — but I can’t see (big activity at the deadline) happening, and if it does, I’d be shocked.”
There’s more on the Warriors:
- Myers had his staff reach out to every other team this week to see if any smaller deals are available that might be beneficial, Slater adds. Golden State could be active on the buyout market and may look to unload one of its guaranteed salaries to create a roster opening and avoid any further luxury tax payments. The Warriors will listen to offers all the way to the deadline, according to Slater.
- Wiseman took part in contact drills Tuesday for the first time since his meniscus injury last April, per Kendra Andrews of ESPN. The Warriors had originally hoped he would be ready for training camp. He participated in a pre-game workout Wednesday, Slater tweets, but the team hasn’t decided when to try him in a 5-on-5 setting.
- Klay Thompson‘s minutes restriction was bumped up to 30 before Monday’s game at Oklahoma City, Andrews adds in a separate story. “That’s a huge milestone for myself, and hopefully I can build on it,” Thompson said. “I feel incredible. … I feel like I haven’t missed a beat only 12 games in.”
- Andre Iguodala, who missed Wednesday’s game at Utah, will be held out of the second half of the team’s back-to-back set tonight vs. the Knicks due to lower back tightness, according to Slater (Twitter link).
OH MY GOD! THE LAKERS ARE TRADING LEBRON!
Just as a few of us have said for a couple weeks now, the Warriors roster is pretty set. No one’s going to blow them away and overpay for any of these guys so buyout Market looks like the way to go to add reinforcements in San Francisco.
Unless some team goes all out with a super deal it is not happening. Kuminga is not going anywhere. Because of money cap space is not available not much they can do. The buy out market may bring them a big man that is needed.
Yes arc89, and as they say, there’s two things that are critically important in the NBA. Continuity and fit.
You see these teams firing their coaches every other year and going nowhere spinning their wheels. Then they change their rosters over by 6 guys and have a brand new starting lineup every other year. Not much continuity and not much success.
Then you have the teams trying to fit Square pegs into round holes. Doesn’t work either. Warriors are in a good spot. Unselfish players yet with the freedom to do what they do. At 41-14 I would say the fit has been tremendous. Specialized defensive Stoppers, great shooting, superb defense, several All Stars, the Warriors have all the pieces.
As you say though maybe one more big man rim protector. Andrew Bogut was perfect but someone like a Poor Man’s Bogut would be icing on the cake.
But you play small ball in the playoffs anyway so I’m not worried much about that.
So Gary, the buyout market. If Robin Lopez is bought out, whatya think. T. Thompson? Any otherpossibles?
Did you happen to see Hassan Whiteside block 5 shots in 9 minutes last night? Someone like that would be nice as a rim protector LOL.
He probably won’t be available but I’m sure Luke will put out a buyout possibility article in the next week or so….
Buyout guys can be have tremendous value. Look at Blake Griffin last year in the playoffs for the Nets. He was awesome but that did not carry over to this season unfortunately.
Claude do you have anyone in mind that you hope becomes available for a team like the Warriors?
Lopez. From Stanford so I assume has a clue. Whiteside has a badass attitude, and they need that, so I agree, someone like him. There was an article re candidates. I’ll look for it. Re Wiggins, I’m not real happy with his rebounding “effort” last night and Kerr called him and Kuminga out on it after game. I’m sure Green and iggy did as well.

last night the rebounding was terrible for the Warriors. Looney was also not up to par and maybe shouldn’t have played. That was a game they needed to hit outside shots to win being under sized.
hard to find equal value for Kuminga and Wiseman ..
especially James Wiseman .. not getting hype cuz not playing, but dude is the next Embiid
I think the Rockets should try to pry Wiseman from the Warriors. Wood and Theis or Wood and Tate (could cover some of Green’s minutes) would put the Warriors over the top. Wood and Tate are both around 27, so just hitting their primes.
Who is Pat?
Idk, but he keeps falling down I’m guessing.
After the last 2 games, can the team please use one of our 2-Way contracts to Sign Freddie Gillespie or MFiondu Kabengele?
They would help the team more in the next month rather than continuing to keep Chiozza and Quindary stashed in the GLeague.
