The trade agreement between the Kings and the Pacers that will send Tyrese Haliburton to Indiana shocked people around the NBA, including Haliburton himself, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski said during an appearance on NBA Today (video link).
“The league is stunned at this trade and the fact that (Haliburton) was even available,” Wojnarowski said. “I think there were a lot of teams who thought, ‘If we knew we could’ve gotten Tyrese Haliburton, we would’ve been really knocking at the door in Sacramento.’ … This was a player who everyone had thought, including Tyrese Haliburton, that he’d be the cornerstone for their future.”
Here are a few more trade-related notes and rumors from around the Western Conference:
- Having already agreed to two major trades this week, the Trail Blazers may not be done yet. They continue to talk to the Pistons about a possible Jerami Grant deal, reports Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report (Twitter link).
- It remains possible that newly-acquired Clippers forward Robert Covington will be on the move again prior to Thursday’s trade deadline, sources tell ESPN’s Brian Windhorst. Covington can’t be aggregated with another player for salary-matching purposes in a second trade, but could still technically be flipped on his own this week.
- Dan Woike of The Los Angeles Times says sources have described Magic wing Terrence Ross as a realistic trade target for the Lakers, but Woike isn’t sure that L.A. would have the appetite to attach a future first-round pick to Talen Horton-Tucker to acquire Ross, who is having the worst three-point shooting season of his career.
- Adding size in the frontcourt is a priority for the Timberwolves as the trade deadline approaches, per Dane Moore of Blue Wire Pods (Twitter link). Minnesota ranks dead-last in defensive rebounding rate this season, and Moore suggests the club would like to add a backup center who could help in that area.
Last time Lakers wanted a shooter they gave up Zubac for Mike Muscala
Just sit tight and take your spanking this year Jeanie
Orlando will get nothing for their bags of available crap when all is said and done- They should be looking to use this meh salary to take on even more terrible contracts but this is rarified air not being in cap hell for Orl so who knows what they have planned (if anything)
I wonder if Cuban has the stones to unload KP+ assets today for Harris Ross and Robin. Id assume not being in the thick of it but Orl lines up well to pull that bandaid straight off today
Magic and Rockets like Lakers unprotected First
Only Wood fits that bill
It could be worth a dice roll for Lal but you have to remember that 27 is the last chip they have at the table for a good while.
They have to recognize 2023,24 25…exist as well
Lakers GM has been the worst in the nba since lebron has gotten there. It’s really hard to put together a bad team with lebron and ad as the 1/2 but he’s defined all odds. How hard was it to see Pope was garbage or that tucker couldn’t shoot or that Westbrook can’t play off ball..
Agreed
During the Bubble, Pope played excellently throughout the entire playoffs, being a great 3 and D two-guard. He was a key element in that playoff run. I havent watched much the Lakers after that tbh, so his production might have fallen off.
I agree with everything else you said.
Let’s leave religion (and politics) out of this please…
LOL
Pope did get hit during the bubble but so did rondo and dwight and they let them walk for free and then brought them back a year later. Which again was dumb, either keep them or let them walk but if they’re too old for your taste one year it’s not like they got any younger the next
Knew it! Grant is going to Portland.
Blazers have a good chance of landing Grant now. They have picks and assets.
Eww
If Portland truly cleared up space for Jerami Grant they’re even worse off than I thought!
Nuggets and Blazers were both early playoff exits when Dame was better and Grant was about the same. Now they’re combined two years later with no other discernible improvements.
What a crying shame!!
Grant contract has to be extended next year also …
That’s a lie …. You had a thought
Wow Al real mature…lol
Large role Halliburton 3 year contract remaining
$14 million
Marginal role Horton Tucker
3 year $30 million
Same age 21
Pacers got a steal. Haliburton will be a great piece and possibly an All Star. they should keep tanking and get that lottery pick
My grade
Pacers B
Kings D
Hield is far better than Lamb and Holiday combined
Kings now has no 3 point shooter
Problem is, Hields Stats are down across the board, INCLUDING his 3pt shots.
I wouldn’t give the Kings a “D”, maybe a “C”, but NOT a “D” !! You now have a consistent bonafied PF in Sabonis, which Bagley is NOT !!
Hield is straight garbage! This was unloading a terrible contract. You all play 2k and think Buddy is amazing, but real life he play zero defense and his shooting is spotty. Happy to see Buddy go, but hate, HATE losing Halliburton.
They need a top-3 pick otherwise this tank job was a waste. Top-3 players are forwards/center. Where they sit BPAs are guards.
Woj has to be kidding. Yeah, I’m sure there would have been a lot of FO glorified 2k’ers who would have been at SAC’s door if they knew TH was available, but I’m equally sure they wouldn’t have been making available, from their end, a young All Star, on a team friendly deal who hadn’t demanded a trade.
If the trades to date suggest a market, Ross is barely worth a 2nd round pick (not a 1st). He’s not expiring; he has another year at 8 figures.
Pacers have Rubios deal they can move and Warren. Still could deal Turner or just sit pat with him. Bertans could fit for a Rubio deal and acquire a 1st bc his contract is bad. Warren could be used to take on Gordon and a 1st if no one else trades for him. Pacers wanted middle build those two moves set up a middle build.
Should flip hield if they can. Brogdon and Halliburton are going be the starters. Hield hasn’t been a great 6th man and is overpaid and no way all 3 can play at the same time and win
Obviously Haliburton is stunned lol. Who tf isn’t when they get traded? How many articles have we read about guys being “stunned” when they’re traded? It’s pretty much every single time. Non news story at this point.
If the Lakers trade Horton-Tucker AND a 1st for freaking Terrence Ross their entire front office should be fired. Those are literally the only two assets they have (that would be on the table in a potential trade) and giving them away for Ross would be idiotic.
Indeed, On site
This trade sounds pathetic and desperate by Lakers if it happens… with????
Grant to NY ……
Clippers dumping RoCo would only make Sense for them if they can re-sign him for cheaper, which I doubt (playoff teams/contenders would definitely claim him). Even if they don’t plan to go all in this season, would be wise for next year, with kawhi AND PG-13 back.
Especially with ownership don’t caring about luxury tax.
Roco to Milwaukee to fill the pj tucker role?
