We already published one collection of Wizards-related rumors today, examining the team’s interest in Domantas Sabonis and Spencer Dinwiddie‘s availability, among other topics. However, a deep dive into Washington’s deadline plans from David Aldridge and Josh Robbins of The Athletic covers a few additional bases, necessitating another roundup of notes and rumors from out of the nation’s capital.
Aldridge and Robbins, like other reporters, have heard no indications that the Wizards are considering trading star Bradley Beal, but the sources they spoke to were less certain about Beal’s intentions going forward.
Multiple league sources told The Athletic that the veteran guard remains conflicted about his future, torn between wanting to remain loyal to D.C. and being uncertain about whether the Wizards can surround him with championship-caliber talent.
Beal has been frustrated by the team’s gradual slide down the standings this season, and sources close to him suggest he wouldn’t automatically reject the idea of being traded, according to Aldridge and Robbins. However, he hasn’t asked to be dealt and his preference is still to remain with the Wizards, who want to continue building around him.
Here are a few more highlights from The Athletic’s story on the Wizards:
- While Beal is among the Sixers‘ targets in a Ben Simmons trade, Philadelphia isn’t willing to include Tyrese Maxey or Matisse Thybulle along with Simmons in an offer for Beal, sources tell Aldridge and Robbins.
- If the Wizards were to trade Beal, it would likely signal the beginning of a teardown and a restart for the franchise, which owner Ted Leonsis seems adamantly opposed to, per The Athletic’s duo. “I don’t see them doing that because I think the owner would prefer not to go through the pain,” one rival team executive said. “They’ve got the right people in place (in the front office), but (Leonsis) doesn’t have the stomach for it.”
- The consensus around the NBA is that most of the veterans the Wizards have made available, including Dinwiddie, Montrezl Harrell, and Thomas Bryant, don’t have enough value on their own to net significant returns. At least one of Deni Avdija or Rui Hachimura would probably have to be included if Washington wants to take a bigger swing. One league executive who spoke to The Athletic described Avdija and Hachimura as potential “starting-caliber players,” but said talent evaluators generally don’t view them as future All-Stars.
- In order to move Davis Bertans, who is under contract through 2025, the Wizards would likely have to either attach an asset or take back an equally bad contract, per Aldridge and Robbins. “It feels tough (without attaching a pick),” one executive said. “Maybe they can take back a similar contract that doesn’t have the player option year. But, yeah, hard to move.”
Moreyon only has eyes for Harden. Can’t wait till he gets him and fails……
Beal should get the most value out of any player who’s available for trade. He’s easily the #1 guy. Washington can rebuild with that trade. Easily
1/2 game out at 30-19 and the best player in the NBA friend seems the moron is Simmons.
First, Embiid isn’t the best player in the NBA. And second, having a good season with the rest of the team is exactly why not getting anything in return for Simmons is the worst piece of general managing I’ve ever seen in any sport. This is a fickle deal, man. Joel could show up next training camp and his knee could go pop, and that’s it, there goes the window. You go for it when you can, and this year, with no dominant team in the East, you can. What a complete screw-up.
Simmons is fine. He evidently doesn’t care that much about winning championships (he wouldn’t be the only player that feels that way deep down). He’s still pulling big money even with the fines. He’ll be on a good team next year. It’s all good.
Yeah get the parade ready …..
Sure hope Knicks are looking into Dinwiddie.
Didn’t Kemba experience teach you anything??
They’re Knick fans bro, they never learn lol
Why me. I didn’t sign him.
And they should be looking at Dinwiddie doesn’t mean get him. Especially if it’s cheap.
I predict 10 players to be traded next 8 days
Spencer Dinwiddie
Dennis Schroeder
Eric Gordon
Wood
Brunson
Ben Simmons
Grant
Rubio
2 Clippers because of Jerry West friendship
Dragic is a lock to be moved
Feels like WAS should pull the trigger on moving Beal. He’s having a down year but at least in Morey’s eyes his value is still sky high.
I feel like a 3 team deal makes sense with Beal to PHI, Simmons to SAC, and Fox+ headed to WAS.
That actually makes sense. Sixers would obviously need to add assets like Thybulle and picks for sac and wsh
Not that I’m a Kings fan at all but I think trading Fox for Randle would make a better trade. Forget overpaying for Ben or Sabonis get someone quality who has a lower price.
Knicks appear likely to trade him and want a point guard. Randle last season was all nba second team, an all star and put up something like 25-10-6. Even this season his numbers aren’t bad just poor efficiency which Fox ain’t much better with really.
Something like DeAaron Fox, Marvin Bagley and a protected for Julius Randle and Kemba Walker.
Kings then line up Haliburton Heild Barnes Randle Holmes and a bench of Kemba Mitchell Davis Metu Thompson/Len
You’d have good shooting, decent defence and lots of scoring options. Haliburton and Randle can share the playmaking duties.
Knicks something like Fox Fouriner Barrett Bagley Noel and bench of DRose Burks Reddish Toppin and Robinson
Getting Beal would be great for sixers. Age matches up well with Embiid.
Not going to happen if Morey continues his stubborn ways and continues to over value his own players. Maxey and Thybulle would have to be included in any deal for Bradley Beal, and if I’m Washington, I’m walking away if they are not. I am simply not dealing with Philadelphia if Daryl Morey is going to continue to be unreasonable in his demands.
Beal and DC need to go separate ways. It’s past time.
i feel like the wizards actually have a decent team (on paper) it appears that they have chemistry issues
While, i would not trade Maxey, Maxey is Da Bomb!
I would consider adding Matisse Thybulle to the trade pot for Beal, provided that the Wiz sweeten the pot as well.
Simmons market is limited
76ers will have to attach both Maxey and Thybulle
Beal has huge market
With Embiid, Harris and Beal contracts, it’s hard to add good players due to luxury tax
Next season
Cap $119 mm
Tax $136 mm
Morey playing hardball with Simmons and other teams will be down to his knees come the trading deadline. He has no choice but to pull the trigger on Simmons. Morey and Sixers still come out as losers after all the bs delay.
Lol, 76ers with Morey are last years 1 seed and currently number 2 seed without Ben being traded….losing like this isn’t as painful as you make it sound lol
It’s fun to watch all the confidence of 76ers fans. Boggles the mind. This why Simmons wants out. Its actually the fans’ bizzare expectations and world view.
Saying triumphantly the team is in 2nd place is one way to look at it. Another is to say its been a wonky year with injuries and COVID and 76ers are 3 losses away from being in the play-in tourney. This is with Embiid playing the best basketball of his career.
He better hold up despite all that usage… history is not on your side.
Hawks called and said Sixers Suck.
Embiid with another wasted year. You do know Moreyon wore out Yao’s feet. Let him play hurt In Olympics. Then never let him heal and played in NBA. And pretty much ended his career. He’s not doing Embiid any FAVORS by waiting for Harden. And the chemistry with Maxey, Harris, Embiid is not going to work. Ben should of been traded at the draft. And Sixers would of retooled and contend for YEARS.
Now it’s wait on Harden. And hope he forces a sign and trade to Philly. For that you will pay him 45 mill a yr. Yeah that’s analytics for you by a Moreyon.
This DC ineptitude has been an ongoing drama. First it was can Beal and Wall co exist, then ‘committing’ to a supermax for Wall, then offloading his contract after the injury, now ‘can Beal coexist with Dinwiddie, not to mention the Westbrook interregnum. Time to admit this FO has failed, and start fresh, the franchise is being lapped by teams that didn’t hesitate to start over.
I can’t believe it would even be considered that the Sixers would trade Maxey. dude’s really good, cheap, and young and getting better by the day. trading Ben+ for another star to put in at #2 gives you Embiid-[new player]-Tobias-Maxey. that’s a great top four.
S&T Beal for Simmons/Joe/pick in the offseason or try to get him now and swing Simmons to a 3rd team like the Spurs while Washington gets a bunch of young players/picks.
Morey is playing this right, Philly is sitting 2nd in the east right now, they haven’t skipped a beat without Simmons. They could make a lateral move to get depth that wouldn’t give them that much better of a chance or they can wait this out and land another allstar.
Kings get Simmons, Wiz get 2 kings 1sts, a Sixers 1st, Green and Harris. 76ers get Kuzma, Beal, Hield and Harkless. Salaries match. Wiz can try to flip Harris in the off-season. All parties except Harris happy.
I know that tacocat spelled backwards is tacocat…but the rest of this does not make much sense
Kings don’t want Simmons.
If they don’t have to give up Fox or Haliburton they do.
Brunson is far better than Maxey and Jordon Pool because of toughness and defense
Brunson has better court vision and passing skills too
Minutes play affect the offensive stats
#FreeBenSimmons
I think you could structure a trade with the Sixers, Wiz, Pacers, and Kings where everyone gets what they want.
Sixers get Beal.
Wiz get Sabonis, Hield, Sixers 22 First, Kings 24 1st lottery protected.
Pacers get Bagley, Rui, Mitchell, Deni, and Kings 22 1st.
Kings get Ben Simmons.
Not a teardown for the Wiz. Pacers would be the only questionable one, may not be enticed by that package enough to move Sabonis. Wiz are eying him already so they must think he can play w Gafford.
Then if I’m the Wiz I call up Cleveland and offer Dinwiddie and a 2nd for Rubio and a 1st.
Then I call up the Hawks and Rockets and work a 3 team deal that sends Gallinari Wright a Hawks 1st, Bertans, and two Wiz 2nds to the Rockets.
Hawks take back Harrell, Bryant, and KCP.
Wiz bring back John Wall.
22-23 lineup
John Wall
Buddy Hield
Kyle Kuzma – Corey Kispert
Domantas Sabonis
Daniel Gafford
