FEBRUARY 17: Davis will likely miss at least two weeks due to his right ankle sprain, according to McMenamin.
Due to the All-Star break, the Lakers will only play three games between today and March 2, but there’s certainly no guarantee Davis will be ready to return on March 3. He’ll undergo an MRI today on his injured ankle, head coach Frank Vogel confirmed after Wednesday’s game.
FEBRUARY 16: X-rays taken after Lakers star Anthony Davis injured his right ankle in tonight’s game were negative, tweets Shams Charania of The Athletic. Davis will receive treatment during the All-Star break, and his condition will be re-evaluated once the break ends.
There’s no sign of a fracture, according to Kyle Goon of The Orange County Register (Twitter link). The team considers it a sprain and isn’t speculating on a possible recovery timeline, adds Dave McMenamin of ESPN (Twitter link).
Davis took a scary fall in the second quarter of the game against Utah after landing on Rudy Gobert‘s heel and had to be helped to the locker room. The Lakers quickly announced that he wouldn’t return, tweets Bill Oram of The Athletic.
Davis, who has already missed 21 games this season, was sidelined for more than a month in December and January with a sprained MCL in his left knee. He also missed 36 of the 72 games last season.
Another long-term loss of Davis could be devastating for the Lakers, who have dropped three straight games coming into tonight and have fallen into ninth place in the West. They hold a three-and-a-half game lead over the No. 11 Pelicans for a spot in the play-in tournament.
Day to dayvis in full effect….
Very good Shia. Very very good
It’s like I said before the TD, trade him before he breaks again. That was a nasty sprain. He’ll be out for a while if not the rest of the season. Great players are aware of their footwork. AD is rarely aware. He makes crazy moves with near misses too often. This time he was spinning and drifting in mid air to catch a pass. He could have just caught the ball and come down, but he started a spin move while jumping. More 40+ min games for Lebron.
@Fid
What a horrible take. AD wasn’t trying a triple lutz. His footwork wasn’t the issue. He landed on someone’s heel. It wasn’t a fancy move. You ever play basketball im a crowd of reallllly tall ppl?
Yeah that was just a freak injury and those can happen to any player. It certainly looked bad, though. I was pretty surprised that the x-rays were negative.
No I haven’t played basketball in a crowd of really tall people and neither has AD in a couple of years.
Street Clothes Davis
Do you enjoy when great players go down? SMH!
With all that hate hoops ain’t for you, find something else in your life, preferably some help to work through your many & severe issues!
Don’t worry about El Don Always Wrong. I understand when someone says a joke about an injury is uncalled for, but you’re just throwing a nickname. No problem. Out-of-service pervis Ellison Etc, no ill intent.
But El Don Always Wrong goes a little overboard here and then gives himself a thumb up. He has the worst takes ever so don’t sweat over it. Keep the nicknames coming. My favorite above is Day to Day-vis.
We all feel for the man and hope for a full quick recovery. No one likes to see an injury even if it’s for a guy on a team we don’t like or opposing team.
#MuteElDon
Way ahead of you.
Never-nervous Pervis
Man I am the biggest leflop hater on earth, but even I feel bad for lecry, how is that hairline the healthiest and most effective player on a team that should have 2 other superstars in or just leaving their prime, would love for the lakers to fall out of the playoffs and let Portland in so my squad can have the Portland first rounder conveyed this year
Do you feel better about yourself El DON
AD needs to play in bubble wrap.. this guy used to be a beast but is a shell of his former self… Amazing how fast he has fallen at such a young age…
Yes, he’s not the man he used to be. (But who is.) He is mainly a jump shooter now maybe because he is afraid of getting hurt inside?
He has said he doesn’t want to play center in the past.. all that bumping and grinding and elbows and landing on guys in the crowd in the paint. He just has a tough go of it and he’s doing the best he can. I feel for the man.
But I guess a max contract helps ease the frustration of trying to play, getting hurt, trying to cement a legacy with a championship or two, high expectations etc etc.
Hoping for a quick recovery and much success for a good dude. But yeah the nicknames and the criticisms come with the territory. He’s got thick skin he can handle it.
If he played with his ankles taped he would play a lot more.
Trade his a$$$$$$$$sss. damage goods
I agree. AD is a very good player but he just can’t stay on the court. Time to launch him and Westbrook and start over.
Injury Prone AD. He simply doesnt work hard enough in the offseason. Downhill already. :(
The iron man goes down
This is embarrassing for Davis and his family
At least you know he’s going to be consistent(ly on the IL)
