Tyreke Evans‘ drive to return to the NBA took another twist when the G League’s Wisconsin Herd waived him on Wednesday, according to a team press release. He appeared in two games for the Bucks’ affiliate, averaging 8.0 PPG, 2.0 RPG and 2.5 APG and suffering an ankle injury in the process.
Last month, Evans was reinstated into the NBA after being suspended by the league since 2019 for violating its drug policy. Prior to joining the Herd in the middle of this month, the 32-year-old guard had not played elsewhere since his ban.
We have more from around the basketball world:
- While Kyrie Irving can now play home games, the NBA is still concerned about another COVID-19 outbreak. As part of a memo on the rollback of New York City’s vaccine mandate, the Players Association is encouraging eligible players to get booster shots ahead of the playoffs, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski tweets. The NBPA is concerned about the “possibility of new variants on the horizon.” Approximately 75% of the league’s players have already received a booster shot, the NBPA tweets.
- There’s no clear-cut choice for the Defensive Player of the Year award, according to The Athletic’s Seth Partnow, and he takes a closer look at six serious candidates for the honor. That group includes Bam Adebayo, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Rudy Gobert, Jaren Jackson Jr., Marcus Smart and Robert Williams.
- The all-around ability of the Raptors’ Scottie Barnes and the Cavaliers’ Evan Mobley has changed the narrative on this year’s Rookie of the Year award, Eric Koreen of The Athletic opines. Unlike most high lottery picks, they’ve made a major impact on teams headed to the playoffs.
I think it’s clearly Robert Williams.
Among qualified players…
DWS – 3rd. DBPM – 4th. DRtg – 2nd. Blocks/100 Possessions – 3rd. Blocks/Game – 2nd. Total Blocks – 2nd.
JJJ is ahead of him in Total Blocks, Blocks/Game, and Blocks/100 Possessions. No one else up for the award is ahead of him in the other categories that’s in the running for DPOY.
JJJ is like 40 slots back in DRtg. 12th in DWS. 44th in DBPM.
Williams on that Celtics squad deserves alot of credit, as does Smart, but they might cancel eachother out leaving the door open for someone else.
I hope not as I have my list as Robert Williams #1 and Jaren Jackson Jr. #1b..
Idk, stats aside, just watching what JJJ has done this season has been outstanding!! He is CONSTANTLY effecting and negatively impacting his opponents, and he is just such a HUGE difference maker for this Grizzlies team.
The reason why the Grizzlies are able to stay so good and competitive, even in games without Ja Morant, is due to their suffocating defense, and that is spearheaded by Jackson Jr..
Jaren Jackson Jr. BETTER make the 1st team All-Defense, if he doesn’t win the award, but I’m betting the award winner will likely get the spot along with some combo of Robert Williams, Bam, Gobert, or Giannis…I really hope not, because JJJ SHOULD BE recognized for his outstanding efforts defensively this year…It will be a travesty and real shame if he’s pushed to even All-NBA Defensive 2nd Team…
“Tyreke Evans‘ drive to return to the NBA took another twist when the G League’s Wisconsin Herd waived him.”
Dammit!! May not be meant to be. I still hope he can make it back to the NBA.
JJJ may get it by being on the better team
Time lord
On the lowly Celtics this year may not get the award
Partnow indicated Smart or Adebayo.
The injury to Lopez has forced Giannis into a rim-protector role this year instead of being an “all-court destroyer”.
He also said NBA teams were on a scoring binge since midseason unlike anything in the last 15 years.
Giannis or Embiid for DPOY!
Now Kyrie back to missing games just on knee stuff
