4:25pm: The Knicks have confirmed Reddish will miss the rest of the season due to a right shoulder AC joint injury, the team’s PR department tweets.
3:57pm: Knicks swingman Cam Reddish is out for the remainder of the season after suffering a right shoulder separation, sources tell ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski (Twitter link). Reddish is expected to be sidelined around six weeks, Woj adds, so he should be recovered in time for a full offseason.
Reddish, 22, was the 10th overall pick of the 2019 draft after a single season at Duke. He spent his first two-plus seasons with Atlanta prior to being traded to New York in January. The timing is very unfortunate for Reddish, as he’s only recently been able to crack coach Tom Thibodeau‘s rotation.
In 15 games (14.3 MPG) with the Knicks, Reddish put up modest totals of 6.1 PPG and 1.4 RPG on .415/.258/.906 shooting. For the season, he averaged 10.1 PPG, 2.1 RPG and 1.0 SPG on a .404/.359/.902 shooting line in 49 games (20.7 MPG).
As a third-year former first-round pick, Reddish is eligible for a rookie scale extension this summer. There were reports ahead of the trade deadline that the Knicks might be open to trading Reddish even though they’d just acquired him for a protected first-round pick, but ultimately they decided to keep him.
Stefan Bondy of The New York Daily News reported earlier today that he thinks an extension for Reddish is unlikely, but he does think the forward will stick with the Knicks for next season.
Not like the Knicks were using him anyway…
If NYK is smart they’ll extend Cam now while he’s comparably cheap. Anything around 3yrs/$28-33M is a good deal for both sides imo. His injury issues are concerning but his bust potential is low as long as he stays relatively healthy bc he’s so good defensively. Even if he doesn’t become a consistent big time scorer he’ll still be valuable as versatile, aggressive defender. And he could very well become a consistent big time scorer, he’s an extremely talented offensive player that just has to play smarter & stay healthy. So far in his career Cam has been playing for his 2nd contract & to cement his own status moreso than playing to help his team win games imo. Locking him up & giving him a defined role frees him up to start focusing on the team. I’m starting to get Derek Anderson vibes from Cam’s career. Anderson was definitely a good player in the league but Paul George & Tracy McGrady are the guys that Cam’s career should be more similar too with all the talent he has
Cam is Klutch, they aint falling for that BS.
You might be right lol Same type of deal worked out pretty good for Steph Curry tho. Plus I’m sure they would love for their guy to be the starting 2gusrd for the Knicks for the next 4yrs
Talent wise I would agree with extending him now. You would get him cheaper. But NY is a different animal. We don’t need players with low character. Or low value to reach his high ceiling. I don’t know about him. But he has acted out in Atlanta. I’d say that was immaturity. I would wait out the season. He’s signed for next yr. Plus we still have many questions on this team. Including Thibs. I like Cam and think he can be our SF. At least a rotation guy there. But I wait.
Sucks he’s out. Wanted to see him play
Off topic but Durant was quoted as saying about the game tonight, “Ben doesn’t have that opportunity right now (to play), he’s got to just sit there and just take a bunch of people being childish” with no sense of irony.
KD going for 50 lol
“I told you I shouldn’t have played him…”
– Tom Thibodeau
Oh boy, looks like Thibs got his wish.
Knicks are rebuilding. So why would Thibs have an issue with a 6’8” SF who is 22 and plenty of talent. It’s not his call anyway.
With the injury, it’s at least a possibility we never see Reddish suit up in a Knicks uniform again. I see the NYK trading Cam unless Thibs moves on. That would be a disappointing use of draft capital for a team sorely in need of all the picks they can get.
Now any smart basketball person. Would ask. Why wouldn’t you get a good look at Cam. Especially since you traded for him. Unfortunately he got hurt so that ain’t happening. That means he’s signed for next yr. So it’ll have to do. I mean !!!!!!!!
Is this a head a scratcher. Only for the small knowledge. If you don’t follow a team. Why must you show your ignorance.
You can put that in the books ……
I think his books smell. Must be mildew. Or Idontknow
Did he injure it during a game or during film session with Coach?
Slipped on a wet spot while he was filling everyone’s water cups before the game.
On the bright side, with all this time off Reddish can hone his bench warming craft. Atlanta gave him an apprenticeship in bench warming. Thibs will give him a Masters class.
