The Lakers will open a two-way slot for Wenyen Gabriel by waiving Sekou Doumbouya, tweets Jovan Buha of The Athletic. L.A.’s interest in Gabriel was reported Monday, but the team had to choose between unloading either Doumbouya or fellow two-way player Mason Jones.
Doumbouya, a 21-year-old forward, signed a two-way contract with the Lakers prior to the season, was waived in November, then signed a second two-way deal in January. However, he got into just two NBA games with L.A., logging 16 total minutes. He appeared in 12 games for the team’s G League affiliate in South Bay, averaging 6.3 points and 4.8 rebounds in 20 minutes per night.
Doumbouya spent his first two seasons with the Pistons, but was traded twice during the offseason and was eventually waived by the Rockets in early October.
Gabriel, 24, signed 10-day contracts this season with the Nets, Clippers and Pelicans during the height of the COVID-19 outbreak, playing in seven total games. He has previous NBA experience with the Kings and Trail Blazers, as well as a prior stint with New Orleans.
All of these tiny things belong to stay pad or run it back
The big thing is to fix the star players like Westbrook and Davis
Doc Rivers had a good idea to Ben Simmons
Shoot from the right hand
Can Westbrook shoot from left hand?
Hey Sillivan, I see many people give you a hard time about your posts and stuff.
I dont want this to be one of them, I just wanted to correct your English as I think it may be your 2nd language
It’s not “stay pad” it’s “Stand pat” when referencing the team either “running it back” or “blowing it up”
Slow clap
I would like to see if the Raptors could develop Sekou. He showed some good potential with Detroit. Lakers don’t know what the word ‘develop’ means.
Don’t think a team like the Raptors who are fighting for the all important sixth place would want to spend any development time on a guy like Sekou this year. A team like the Spurs is more likely.
I’d say any team could develop a player on a two-way. Just being around the main squad vs the G League can help certain players. Better coaches play a role too.
What’s the word with sekou? Why can’t he break through to being a bench guy?
I remember Casey making a comment about the pistons having their own version of Siakam in Doumbouya after being hired on a few years ago.
Wonder what happened? I’m not a pistons fan, was Sekou that bad? Two trades and released twice by 2 of the worst teams in the league right now (Rockets and Lakers)
There’s really nothing he does well right now.
He can’t shoot at all (25.6% 3 point shooter over his career, and a FG% of 38.8%). He has more turnovers than assists in his career. He doesn’t get rebounds. And he’s bad defensively.
He’s basically a small ball 4 that can’t do anything but run the rim. He needs to do a lot of developing in multiple areas to find a place in the NBA.
“Doumbouya, a 21-year-old forward, got into just two NBA games after signing a two-way deal with the Lakers on January 12.”
A correction needs to be applied here. Doumbouya was indeed waived by the Rockets after training camp, as stated above, but he already signed a two-way with LAL soon after that and began the season as one of their two-way players, before being waived on November 16 after apparently suffering some kind of injury. The two games he played this season occured during this stint. His January 12 two-way signing was actually his second two-way signing with the Lakers this season, and he has not appeared in any more games since then.
Good catch, that’s been fixed, thanks.
Still holding out hope he turns it around and becomes a solid nba player
Who needs a 6’8 and 230 pound PF or potential center? The league swings to the guards more than any other spot on the floor. You think some team could use him other than Cleveland or Detroit who are the only two teams I can think of that are loaded with big men. Oh wait, Chicago at least on paper is too. Chicago could take him on a flier since they are banged up a bit. But still, Sixers, Warriors, Heat, Nets, or any other contender could use some height on their 15 man roster. If he is looking for more playing time, he could get it with New Orleans, OKC, Houston, Minnesota, and Toronto to name a few teams. This is like D’Aneglo Russell written all over Sekou. Poor kid.
You mean MVP candidate guard Jokic or MVP candidate guard Embiid?
Top 3 mvp candidates are big.. jokic, embiid, gianiss. Last season champ best player is big, gianis.
Doom-to-ya has NEVER demonstrated any skill and is sometimes inept. He can run & jump is all. People just get dreamy when rare natural talent is displayed; that is why his draft slot was projected even higher.
I doubt a GL team would bother “developing” him unless the parent team forced them. Raptors, why? Back to Europe.
