Nuggets forward Michael Porter Jr. suffered a setback in recent weeks during his rehab process following back surgery, according to Mike Singer of The Denver Post.
A source familiar with the situation told Singer that the setback was the result of overcompensation and overwork, while another source said it was “nothing major.”
However, with time running out on the 2021/22 season, even a minor setback jeopardizes the possibility of Porter returning to action for the Nuggets. According to Singer, the team has yet to make a decision on whether or not to shut down the 23-year-old, who had hoped to make it back in March. Porter went through a shooting routine prior to Monday’s game, Singer notes.
Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports stated during a TNT broadcast last Tuesday that Porter has endured some “ups and downs” during his rehab process, which suggests the setback may have occurred before then. Haynes said at the time that Jamal Murray was closer to a return than Porter, though it remains possible that neither Nugget will play this spring.
Porter, who also missed his entire rookie season in 2018/19 due to back surgery, appeared in just nine games this season before going under the knife again. He hasn’t played since November 6.
If I’m Denver I think I move off MPJ. Hate to say it but gotta derisk.
Bradley Beal to the Sixers
Tobias Harris to the Nuggets
MPJ and a Nuggets 1st to the Wizards
@Phillies
If the Wiz decide to trade Beal I think they’d prefer to get younger players and assets rather than a very injury prone player with perhaps a career threatening chronic injury that’s owed about 5/$172 mil. You can’t just send risky contracts to bad teams like they’re a dumpster site. That’s like driving your piece of crap car to the bad part of town and burning it.
I don’t disagree, but there is some logic to taking on a risky contract for a high upside player for a team like the Wizards similar to the Porzingis deal. Of course, that one was more an exchange of bad contracts. And we’re also talking about the Wizards here.
Bottom line is the Wizards would need more than MPJ and a 1st to do something like this. There’d need to be an additional asset(s) involved.
Why wouldn’t Nuggets just trade MPJ+1 for Beal then?))) Who in their right mind choses Harris over Beal??
But then how does Philly get Beal for Tobias at an absurdly steep discount?
Not sure I like Harris next to Gordon. Both small 4s without the outside shooting and handle to play alongside eachother and with Jokic.
And that’s not mentioning that this is a horrible deal for Beal, but then I saw your user name. Sixers trade Harris for Beal?!!! Haha. Wizards trade Beal for an injured version of Kuzma and a late first?
Terrible, terrible take.
Beal is a S&T you aren’t getting much in those deals. Look at the Butler return. KD trade.
@philly
those were different situations. that was done to help out the team the sugar was departing from. He can pick up his option, be given an opportunity to discuss an extension and then be traded for a agreeable deal.
MPJ and Murray should not play this year. It’s just too risky and even if they play, they wont be good enough to help. We all know it takes te to build chemistry too. Let the current roster play out and get the invaluable experience. Hats off to Murray and MPJ for trying though!
Weird that there is no mention of what this minor setback was. Tweaked his back? What?
This could very well do it for his chances this season. Don’t think you can bring him back into a playoff environment. At worst, you need a few regular season games but even then the situation would not be ideal.
The fact that “overcompensation” was mentioned suggests it was probably a non-back injury, though I don’t know that for sure.
I had to chuckle at the overcompensation for a bad back part. How does one do that?— it hurts and you move slower. Not a formula for tweaking something.
Whatever.
