Knicks guard Derrick Rose (ankle) seems far away from returning, Marc Berman of the New York Post tweets. Rose originally underwent ankle surgery in December and had a second procedure on February 25 to address an infection.
According to Berman, Rose left the team’s road trip for an exam in New York last week. Head coach Tom Thibodeau said his infection is just now clearing up, but no other details were given about a timetable.
Rose, 33, has only played 26 games this season for the Knicks. New York currently sits 12th in the Eastern Conference standings with a 28-39 record, trailing the No. 10 Hawks by 4.5 games. The team has 15 games remaining to push for a play-in tournament appearance.
Here are some other notes from New York:
- Knicks swingman Cam Reddish won’t require surgery to repair his separated right shoulder, Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News tweets. Reddish will miss the rest of the regular season due to the injury. He played in 15 games after being acquired by the team in January.
- Nets big man LaMarcus Aldridge will miss at least one more week due to a right hip impingement, Brian Lewis of the New York Post tweets. Aldridge has been out for the team’s past two contests. He has started in 12 of his 45 games, averaging 13.5 points and 5.6 rebounds in 22.8 minutes for the season.
- In a separate article for the New York Post, Lewis examines how an engaged Kyrie Irving on defense could help unlock the Nets‘ potential. Irving has played in just 18 games for Brooklyn this season, who currently ranks eighth in the East at 34-33.
Man I’d LOVE to see Pooh return to Chicago next season. What better mentor is there for Ayo than Derrick Rose? They can trade Coby for some help down low (Coby & TBradley to Sac for Richaun Holmes would give HBarnes a couple fellow Tar Heels to vibe with). Full MLE would be risky for Rose bc of his obv health concerns but on a 1yr deal or 1+1 with a team option it would be worth the risk. He was right there with Clarkson as the best bench guard in the league last season & obv his return would excite the Chi fans
CHI does mot need a guard, esp one that’s been there already and will take fan attention away from players the team is already paying. DRose may not be full go either.
Mentor for Ayo?— he’s doing fine with with the staff. Too much focus on mentorship.
Sacto would hope for more for Holmes but that’s a decent trade if they feel pressure to make one… and supposedly the GM is pressured. But mcnair may want to support the moves he has already made, for Davion Mitchell & Donte D.
Ayo has Ball, Caruso, Lavine, DeRozan and Billy Donovan and Maurice Cheeks for mentors. How many does he need? I think it’s your puppy love for Rose that prompted this gooey post. Not to mention that Ayo basically came to the Bulls basically NBA ready anyway. Take down your Rose posters and sell em on E-Bay and seek professional help for your loss. I think I need a tissue.
It would have been huge for the Knicks to get an actual PG on the floor for the stretch run. Not to mention Rose is just more fun to watch than Alec Burks or whoever else Thibs is running out there from his stable of misfits.
Knicks fans might wanna check out this upcoming Tennessee vs Kentucky game. Their future pg Will be playing
Knicks are 4.5 games out of 10th—we’re only stretching into better lottery odds at this point.
If Lakers miss playoffs this year
My projections
Lakers, Knicks and Rockets will make next playoffs in 2027
The biggest city means nothing
The lord hath spoken
Missing Rose definitely gave us more loses. To me that’s a gift in disguise. It’s better for us to pick up another lottery pick. And just be that much stronger next yr. I wouldn’t even play Rose now. Just let him get strong for next yr. And you all do now Rose is signed for next two yrs. With second yr a Team option. And Bulls just went after a PG who is 24, Ball. Rose will be here as long as Thibs will be.
And there is no PG in this draft …..
Getting a starting PG should be a priority for this team. But the way Thibs let’s Randle dominate the ball. Really makes you wonder if they would go get one. Only FA will be Schroder and Brunson. I rather have Schroeder. But I see Rockets offering a good contract. He’s a good vet for that team. And gives them a reason to move Porter. Not a fan of Brunson. I rather trade for one. Dinwiddie and Fultz could be available.
Right now I wish Thibs would play McBride.
I would put the possibility of Rose coming back to the Bulls at zero percent. In fact I’d go lower if I could. Negative zero percent. If AK feels he needs another PG then he’s still got his 1st rd pick and Coby White for trade bait. But beef is what they need.
This yrs 1st rd is full of bigs. Solid 4s and 5s.
If the Bulls could somehow re sign Thompson, Williams comes back healthy and they draft a 4 or 5 in the draft, Would solve a ton of problems. With Brown, DJJ on expiring deals they should be able to do that easy. I wish the Bulls would have gotten Portland’s 1st this year, but you can’t have everything.
Caruso looked good tonight. They should resign Thompson I agree. Bulls are in right path imo. Chemistry and depth takes time lol.
Randle would be more effective with a real point guard…. He would handle less, get the ball in spots where he can be more effective down on the post…. Schroder as FA is interesting, would push pace, can score, excellent in transition, would create looks for RJ, Fourier, Cam, Randle…would help Mitchell with lops if Mitchell resigned….OOPS, Thibs would not be happy on D with Schroder & Fournier playing together… Offensively ok, but D would have to be strong team D… Rose is excellent off bench, perfect for him with injury history… If you sign Schroder as free agent he would have to start…The Celtics had to trade him because he was causing locker room problem complaining about playing time…. The Celtics took off on current tear after the New Year and got really hot coincidentally after they traded Schroder…. Hey, the Lakers were better with Schroder last year than with Westbrook this year… Getting a professional point guard should be a priority this off season…. Also, calling out Thibs, for not Creating strong team D, even though Rose/WWW/ GM went offensive… The Knicks need offense, they need 3 point shooting, Fournier would thrive with professional point guard getting him ball… THIBS NEEDS TO STEP UP AND PROVIDE STRONG TEAM D, other NBA coaches are doing it… Nets won going away against the sixers because KYRIE played out of his mind D on Harden and great team D on Joel, though not stopped getting to line, they contained him, Maxey non-existent because they shut down Harden and couldn’t get Maxey involved…THIBS NEEDS TO STEP UP WITH TEAM D EVEN IF HE IS WORKING WITH THE 7 DWARFS… SERIOUSLY DEFENSIVE SAVANTS FIGURE IT OUT… SPO DID WHEN JIMMY AND BAM OUT FOR LONG PERIODS IN FIRST HALF OF SEASON…. STEP UP THIBS,TEAM D IS ON YOU!….
Rose is signed for next year, with a team option for the following year. NYK aren’t likely to trade him this offseason. CHI did offer Rose a contract last summer (after agreeing with Ball, but before agreeing with Caruso and DDR), but, as it is with most teams, their situation has changed in the last 8 months.
With Cam out for yr. Well Knicks have no choice but to wait till next yr. Cam has to come back and try and win that starting 3. Needs that attitude and commitment. Like to see him add some muscle. Getting stronger will help his gm immensely. He’s got good size and game to be a solid 3. Hope he goes for it. Knicks picking in top 10 could give them access to a solid 3. Getting another lottery pick only helps the rebuild. Just rather a top 10 at this point.
Shoulder injuries are notoriously difficult to come back from 100%. After falling on his face in ATL and literally falling on his shoulder in NYK, don’t expect Reddish to magically turn into a starter on a championship-caliber team.
Not if Thibs is still coaching. Makes you wonder if something happened behind the scenes…why does he hate him so much?
I do wonder with these things if there is a romantic element. Love makes people do crazy things. It just doesn’t add up…
Magically really . Some of us do t see talent. Doesn’t always add up to success. That’s why I said he should come back wanting that. F what Thibs thinks.
I know it’s hard to believe Knicks are rebuilding. Since it’s never happened. So a chip is not even a topic for us.
Really shouldn’t believe everything you read. And in the end Thibs is the coach. He’s not in charge of running team.
True rebuilding is about draft success. This FO and coach inherited Randle , Mitch, RJ. They have drafted Sims, Obi, Quickley. McBride, Grimes. And traded for Cam another 21 yr old. With three 1st rd picks in next two yrs. And 4 second rd picks. I’d say we are still rebuilding. That’s why getting a better pick at this point. Is such a favorable move. Thibs is locked in on play in gm. It’s the wrong move. We should be looking at 8-10 pick.
You know, Thibs is set in his ways, he would lobby to bring in the entire Chicago Bulls Alumni sooner than play Cam or the kids…Next year is THIBS LAST YEAR… THIBS IS A GREAT DEFENSIVE ASSISTANT COACH, but not a head coach… his personality doesn’t allow for it -can’t get along with the front office and cohesive team building…. Hey, Jimmy is a baller, he forced his way out of Minnesota and Thibs….
Cam on Knicks could be a Shawn Marion type player… a great team compliment piece… next year he needs to play an d be coached….
Marion was a 4x All-Star and 2x All-NBA.
If Reddish lasts 3 more years in this league, I’ll eat my shoe.
Start munching away, dude!!!
We’ve got 3 years and a lot of bench warming to get through before that. Slow your roll.
Hey, Shawn Marion had the fortune of playing with 2 Hall of Fame point Guards, in Phoenix Steve Nash, 2X MVP, in Dallas Jason Kidd, who got him the ball and got him involved in the offense… With Marion being traded to Miami for Shaq, the Heat did not have a reliable point guard, and he was scoring 11 points a game, no impact… ATLANTA GM HAD SURPLUS OF WINGS, CAM WAS NOT GOING TO GET PLAYING TIME, ALSO LOST ALMOST THE WHOLE LAST YEAR TO INJURY.. Given the opportunity, given playing time, with a willing coach, THIBS, may not be the right coach, again given the right system, his raw ability is there… which organization will draw it out of him is the question…
Looking forward to Knicks vs Nets today…..
Rose has had a great second act to his career thus far. Will be interesting to see how he comes back next year. He and IQ could make the fulcrum of a great bench unit. Whether the starting unit will be worth anything ….
