Malcolm Brogdon has been the subject of some trade speculation since the team acquired Tyrese Haliburton — some rival executives reportedly believe the Pacers will look to move the veteran guard this offseason.
However, speaking to reporters on Monday as part of his exit interview, Brogdon said he feels comfortable with his current team and has a “great relationship” with head coach Rick Carlisle, per Joel Lorenzi of The Indianapolis Star. In other words, while it’s possible the Pacers could trade him this offseason, it doesn’t sound like that would be his preference.
“I want to be here,” Brogdon said. “I feel like I’ve built a home here. They’ve paid me here and extended me here. And I fit. I like Carlisle, I like the coaching staff and I love my teammates. This is a player’s league, but a lot of time we don’t make the decisions. So for me it’s about getting healthy, getting better this summer and coming back ready.”
Here’s more from around the Central:
- Entering a contract year in 2022/23, Pacers big man Myles Turner admitted on Monday that the possibility of an extension is “always in the back of my mind,” but said he’s more focused on coming back healthy next season to “remind everybody what I’m about” (link via Matthew VanTryon of The Indianapolis Star). Turner didn’t play after January 14 due to a foot injury.
- Jrue Holiday, whose contract calls for a $306K bonus if he plays in at least 67 games and averages at least 3.15 rebounds per game, logged just eight seconds of game time on Sunday in his 67th appearance of the season to ensure he received that bonus, as ESPN’s Bobby Marks tweets. The Bucks guard averaged 4.5 RPG this season.
- In an Insider-only story for ESPN.com, Marks takes an in-depth look at some of the most important roster decisions facing the Pistons this offseason, including Marvin Bagley III‘s free agency and a handful of team options.
- No. 1 overall pick Cade Cunningham, who averaged 21.0 PPG, 6.4 APG, and 5.8 RPG on 45.7% shooting in 21 games after the All-Star break, may have gotten hot too late to win the Rookie of the Year award, but his strong second-half performance is a reminder that he’s a player the Pistons can build around going forward, writes Vincent Goodwill of Yahoo Sports.
Any clarity on the backend on why the Pacers rumors pop up as Celtics rumors literally every week? I assume it’s a bug.
Happens to me for Bucks/Hawks. Glad to know it’s not just me, but yeah it’s annoying. Refresh doesn’t always fix it either.
Larry Legend
What platform are you using? I’ve tried to recreate that issue but the Celtics section looks OK to me on the desktop/mobile sites and the iOS app.
IPad app. It’s been happening for years, so I just stopped filtering by teams and just scroll through all the NBA articles. Doesn’t seem to happen on baseball, football or Brewers only filters.
iPhone app for me. Honestly no worries on it. At first I just thought it was human error but since it happens so frequently with the exact same tags I assume it’s probably a bug.
I also follow team-specific rumors for hockey, football, and baseball, but NBA is the only sport I’ve seen this issue with if that helps.
I’ve passed this up the ladder to see if there’s anything we can do. I’ll let you guys know if there’s any other info we need from you to try to identify and fix the issue.
Draft Jabari or Paolo. Extend Bagley for something like 4yrs $60-70M. Trade JGrant for Josh Hart or Duncan Robinson. Offer Mitchell Robinson a 3yr $46-50M deal, if he passes offer Mo Bamba same deal. Future of the Pistons is set.
Couldn’t disagree more…
Bagley at 15/20 mil is way to much.
Why invest in Robinson at about 15mik when you have Isiah Stewart and Bagley and Okynyk.
All these bugs and you want to draft Jabari smith aswell….
Pistons…
Likely with the third pick, my guess is 2 out of Chet, Jabari and Paolo will be taken and off the board, so you should end up taking who is available out of these three, hopefully Chet.
I do like the Grant for Josh Hart trade.
That leaves you with Cade Hart Bey Stewart (at the 4) and Chet.
I’d also try add a late first via trade somehow and get Jaden Hardy. Born and raised in Detroit, played really well in the g league. Needs to improve his 3 point jumper but is the biggest sleeper in the draft.
Probably Marvin Bagley sign and trade plus a future second for Doug McDermott and the 24th pick.
Then in FA sign Jalen Smith to a 3 year 45mil deal.
Leaving the second unit to look like
Joseph Hardy McDermott Smith and Okynyk
With backs ups in Hayes Diallo and Garza,
Yeah Bagley should be looking at 3/30 tops. Signing Bagley for anything more than the MLE is a bad idea.
Really like Jalen Smith and I like Bamba also. Olynyk imo can be a good contributer to a contender, he may have trade value or at least should, imo.
I’m with you, I like Chet best but any of the 3 would be good. Paolo and Stewart will give up crazy paint points. I actually think Paolo can play almost like a giant Cade. Might sound nutty but I wouldn’t be opposed to letting Paolo play a defacto point guard role like Zion did at times.
Again you’re heavily sleeping on Marvin Bagley lol.. Paolo is Grant Hill 2.0 tho. He’s gonna play a lot of pg thruout his NBA career
Whoever get Aaron Holiday for peanuts in FA is going to get a steal. Him being traded for cash considerations was a travesty.
Hopefully Jalen Smith gets paid as well as Bamba, I have a soft spot for guys that have to deal with lack of organizational backing.
Ayee I got a bite!.. I like Isaiah Stewart A LOT. I don’t think he’s a starter for a contender tho, even in his prime. He’s a really nice young big, obv extremely strong but also skilled that can be a force for 18-24mins with the 2nd unit behind somebody like Robinson or Bamba. Marvin Bagley is much better at the 4 rn, especially defensively. He can be elite as far as scoring bigs go. This is a kid who is a pure scorer at 6’11 or however tall he is. He’s gonna be worth way more than $15M/yr thru his prime yrs. Detroit sorta lucked up into him tbh they gotta keep him. Olynyk played well for them this yr & is a really good weapon to have off the bench but he clearly ain’t a starter. Detroit needs a guy that can start for them at the 5 & anchor their defense. Mitch or Bamba could do this. Adding a defensive anchor to protect the rim would drastically change this team for the better. & a starting 5 that can give u 10/10 & anchor a top10-15 defense for you is also well $15M/yr. If they end up with Chet I prob wouldn’t pursue Bamba but overall they definitely need a dependable rim protector & Stew/Kelly/Bagley ain’t that… Any of Jabari/Paolo/Chet would work really well for Detroit tbh. Portland might be hesitant to deal Hart bc of how well he played for them (& rly all season). But if Det could get Duncan plus Miami’s 1st for Jerami, I could def see them grabbing Jaden Hardy if he’s still there. I feel like Hardy will be gone in the top 10 tho.. I find it a lil weird that you’re willing to pay Sticks Smith $15M/yr & not Bagley tho. You’re heavily sleeping on that kid
I just don’t understand why you want so many bigs. Bagley Stewart Jabari Okynyk Bamba/Robinson doesn’t make to much sense to me.
Like I said I’d get Chet, then at the 4 go for someone with some size and athleticism either Stewart or Bagley. I don’t hate him at all think he’s pretty good but would definitely think long and hard about dealing him if you get a decent offer.
Stewart i like at PF next to someone like Chet who will space the floor with speed and skill. He’s only 6’8 and you need the muscle next to Chet, Bagley could also be that guy at the 4 and offensively him and Chet would be a great duo but defensively you’d also get beat a lot.
Jaden Hardy I’ve seen mainly being mocked as a 20-30 prospect but I think in reality will be in the mid to late teens. He’s got so much upside, and showed real good signs in the g league. All that was missing is a 3 point shot which he should develop.
If you don’t get Chet I think Paolo would be a terrific fit long term with Cade. But you’d probably need to get a solid defensive centre.
Just for the lols, imagine J Grant, Isiah Stewart, Killian Hayes and a future first for Gobert and draft Paolo.
Cade Bey Paolo Gobert, you’d be going straight to the playoffs next season
Casey & Weaver do not consider Bagley a starter, just a talent. People sleeping on him have been right.
The Pistons must feel down, since there is so much interest in Cade being ROY. They are still a ways away.
Chet is not on my wish list. Ivy, Paolo, Smith, Holmgren is 4th.
That’s way too much for that guy.
I rather have Paolo or Ivy over Chet or Smith. Ivy would be awesome and dynamic duo with Cade. Need to trade Grant ASAP!
