Hawks big man Clint Capela departed during the second half of Atlanta’s must-win Game 5 due to a right knee injury, per Marc J. Spears of Andscape (via Twitter).
Atlanta’s starting center had missed the club’s first three playoffs contests with a hyperextension of the same knee. The Hawks trail the Heat 3-1 in their first-round series matchup.
Should the Hawks rally to win tonight (Miami is leading in the fourth quarter as of this writing), it remains to be seen whether or not Capela would be available going forward. Starting power forward John Collins was moved up a slot to center prior to Capela’s return to the lineup in Game 4.
Capela played for 19:25 in tonight’s contest before departing with the injury, scoring two points on 1-of-2 shooting from the floor. He also pulled down eight boards and had a steal and a block.
The 6’10” center is in the fourth year of a five-season, $90MM deal he signed while with the Rockets. His two-year extension with the Hawks will begin in 2023/24.
Tense game. Players on the bench were toeing the line literally, crowding the corners. Refs should control that.
HC Mcmillan should have challenged the 6th foul against Hunter, as they needed a shot creator later. Not sure they would have won the review tho since Hunter extended his arms when the picker fell.
Oladipo def has his reflexes present & back… Young was spacey. Strus guarded him well too. A long rest for Capella.
The arena was electric tonight, behind Oladipo. With those guys out, he had the spacing around him, and they actually needed the things he does, in this matchup, especially without Lowry and then Butler. PJ Tucker was a monster though, in my opinion
Tucker may have started this new wave of defensive specialists… MikalB, HerbertJ, 1to5 guys. The top rookies this year want to play D, which seems to me is a change, in popularity if not success.
(Not sure of Banchero/Griffen next year.)
·The popularity of MIA reputation could be a reason.
·The use of social media like this also… posters making criticisms.
·Players want to be “two-way” (offense-defense).
Should of been swept. Heat played Tre better than any other team. Hawks showed they are not a top team without Tre getting buckets. This was my point about trading for CJ. CJ is an established vet who takes the heat from Tre. And allows him to get his. Pelicans have shown that.
When young teams want to take the next step up. You go for a solid vet who can help you step UP. ………
OK……… CP3
Real No show for Collins this series, I’m disappointed
Don’t think he’s wearing a Hawk uni to start 23′
Hope Capela’s Ok
Ya I said the same thing on the other thread. They just didnt get enough from the 4 guys that were most important for them in this series. John Collins, Gallinari, Huerter, and not enough consistency from Bogdanovic…I dont know if it was just great defense by PJ Tucker, Caleb Martin, and Strus, or were they just not aggressive enough offensively. I felt like spo made the right lineup decisions, and Atlanta didnt really adapt to the smaller lineup, and not having Reddish hurt them in the matchup
A bit cold man, JC played with multiple injuries, he shouldn’t have, but if anything he was a hero for playing when he should have rested for next season!
Seeing Trae fail multiple times in the series makes me suspicious of any guard under 6’2″ regardless of his numbers.
Idiotic take. Countless sub-6’2″ players throughout basketball history who were champions.
Undersized guards are really tough for me to place in the draft. They’re really dependent on the rest of the roster, although you can say that about a lot of players
Teams should be cautious about small guards— get only one for starting if possible. But there is still a use for quick guys dribbling low. They can get to spots if there’s somewhere to go wth the ball.
Seems like McMillan should have been able to come up with a way that Young could be more effective. Double picks or something. Hate to see Capela injured. Hope he wasn’t rushed back to play in a game they probably were not going to win anyway.
