Timberwolves guard Patrick Beverley has been fined $30K by the NBA for “inappropriate statements during a media interview and on social media, including the egregious use of profanity,” the league announced (via Twitter).
Beverley made the comments following Tuesday’s 109-104 play-in tournament victory over the Clippers, which secured the No. 7 seed in the West for Minnesota. He said the win was extra special after spending four seasons (2017-21) as a Clipper before being traded twice last offseason, initially to Memphis, then to Minnesota. He failed to come to terms on extension with the Clippers in 2021 prior to being traded, calling the team’s offer “borderline disrespectful.”
“I gave my blood and sweat and tears to that organization,” Beverley said, per ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk. “You guys know the story. Blood, sweat and tears, to just be written off like that, ‘He’s injury-prone. He’s old.’ This, this, that, that. To be able to come here and play them in a play-in and beat their ass, no other feeling, man. No other feeling.”
Beverley also said after the game that he told his former Clippers teammates to “take (their) ass home,” adding that he “f—ing told y’all” the Timberwolves would make the playoffs.
In his first year with the Wolves, the 33-year-old averaged 9.2 PPG, 4.1 RPG, 4.6 APG, 1.2 SPG and 0.9 BPG, with a shooting line of .406/.343/.722. Beverley signed a one-year, $13MM extension with Minnesota in February, so he’s under contract through 2022/23.
Beverley was just fined $25K a couple days ago after he was ejected from the team’s regular season finale against Chicago. However, since he’s earning $14,320,987 this season, the combined $55K in fines won’t put much of a dent in his pocket.
Game 1 of Minnesota’s series against Memphis, the No. 2 seed, is set to tip-off Saturday at 2:30pm CT on ESPN.
The NBA’s so soft bro
No I am glad they are cracking down on Bev. His antics over the past couple years have been VERY bush league! The NBA doesn’t want young prospects pulling clown antics to gain more noteriety and boost their image due to lack of skill. Let your game do the talking for the most part.
Ya they might be soft but let’s be real Patbev is trash
Wait so what did he say that was inappropriate ? The quotes from him that are posted seem completely acceptable. No curse words ?
Doesn’t appear the TR article is finish, he also said: “Man, I wanted this one so bad,” said Beverley, who hugged his mother, Lisa, on the court. “This is just the icing on the cake, the cherry on top. Play-in, to be able to beat them … another goal scratched off. I told you we were going to the playoffs. Most of you all, y’all looked at me like I was crazy when I first said that. I f—ing told y’all.”
Per the ESPN article, plus he also said “take their ass home.” I assume the F-bomb at a press conference plus 2 remarks of ass (even though I agree that’s a soft sweat these days) necessitated the fine.
Disagree 100%. Things should not be censored. That is part of how we speak as humans so we should be able to speak how we really are vs fake narratives
That press conference with Pat & Ant was a beautiful thing fr. He cussed multiple times so I get the fine but overall Pat & Ant both are extremely interesting characters & I’m all 4 as many joint pressers as possible with those 2
Fine pat $30 k every game
For a journeyman who only spent 4 years on the Clips he was really pissed at them like a guy cast off after 10+ years. Also very few teams would want him, he should get used to 1 and done type situations in the future. Weird, unlikeable guy.
Yeah Grit and Grind is one thing. And there will only be one Rodman. Bev just comes off like a straight clown to me.
I used to not like him. And then he joined my favorite team. Most of the clippers really like him. And even after what he did after that game, they still talked about how they respect him.
I never thought I’d ever like him, but once he joins your team, boosts morale, gets in peoples heads, causes so many problems for the other team, you start to respect him.
Love me some Pat Bev. I remember after the Westbrook injury, Houston played at OKC and they asked him about playing in a hostile environment. He said something along the line of, when I played in Europe, they threw batteries at us, this is nothing.
The Pat Bev hate is weird to me. Plenty of guys in the league talk trash, whine to the refs, have their own antics, yet this guy seems to get most of the heat for whatever reason. For all his faults, he does bring energy and intensity to whichever team he plays for. Year in and year out, I see the fans of contending teams complain about not having that type of guy.
So he talks trash. So he can be annoying on the opposition. It’s sports. Lighten up. Don’t like it? Hope your team kicks his behind whenever they play the Wolves. I’m sure he wouldn’t have it any other way.
Anyone would want a Pat Bev on their team, he plays hard, plays with heart.
But the thing with Pat Bev, he usually goes overboard and he has this nagging tendency to put the spotlight on himself and make things about him.
He holds he pushes
He’s dirty as tripper Allen
Just way more saavy
Shea Goodbye you are wrong!! What happened when the Suns beat Bev and the Clips last year. Bev pushed CP3 in the bavk amd could have injured him and ruined the Suns playoff run. All because he lost and he could not take the mocking and antics in reverse. That was my last straw with him! If you can’t take the heat, why the heck are you in the kitchen. I have a strong dislike for people who try to dish out but cannot take their medicine in return!
Such a punk move and on national television no less. All because…they lost. Doesn’t get any more ‘unsportsmanlike’ than that and I think that move had more to do with the Clippers dumping him than Pat or others would care to admit. Not a Clippers fan but Ballmer’s trying to remake the team’s image and Pat Bev wasn’t it.
After seeing all of these comments, I’m noticing one thing…Pat Bev is living rent free in almost all of your heads.
This is exactly what he wants with every other team in the NBA!!
