Second-year Arizona guard Dalen Terry has announced (Twitter link) that he will remain in the 2022 NBA draft pool and surrender his collegiate eligibility.
“It’s been a life-long dream of mine to play at the highest level,” Terry wrote in a statement. “After many conversations with the people closest to me, I’ve decided to remain in the 2022 NBA Draft. Wildcat Nation, I cannot thank you enough for everything you’ve done for me.”
The 6’7″ guard is ranked as the No. 23 selection in this year’s draft, per the latest edition of the ESPN big board. Terry could climb higher — Bobby Marks of ESPN says (via Twitter) that he wouldn’t be surprised if the 19-year-old becomes a lottery pick.
During the 2021/22 NCAA season, Terry averaged 8.0 PPG, 4.8 RPG and 3.9 APG across 37 contests, all starts, boasting shooting splits of .502/.354/.736. He was named to the Pac-12 All-Defensive Team and an All Pac-12 Honorable Mention.
As Jeff Goodman of Stadium tweets, Terry joins projected lottery pick Bennedict Mathurin and center Christian Koloko, listed as the No. 43 prospect on the current ESPN big board, as departing Arizona underclassmen in this year’s draft.
Terry has a shot to be a great 3 and D guy. I like his game
Watching him & Mathurin playing together this yr was probably the literal best thing about this college basketball season
I disagree. Watching UNC literally end Coach K’s career (twice) was literally the literal best thing of last season, literally.
I was in attendance when Arizona destroyed USC at the Galen Center. Game was over in minutes. Couldn’t help but notice U of A had 5 players on the court. Terry has a chance to be a great 6th man but I’m not buying the Mathurin hype.
Those UNC/Duke games were definitely incredible games with great moments. But the way Zona grew on me throughout the yr, especially the dynamic duo of Terry & Mathurin, sorta carried the whole season for me. My team sucked this season (Jose Alvarado ALMOST came back). Zona (along with Houston coincidentally) was 1 of my must watch teams all yr mainly bc of how exciting & just overall great those 2 guys were
Which pair of former teammates will have the best pro careers, Dalen Terry/Ben Mathurin (Arizona 22), Jonathan Kuminga/Isaiah Todd (Ignite 21), Mark Williams/Jalen Johnson (Duke 21), MarJon Beauchamp/Dyson Daniels (Ignite 22) or Wendell Moore Jr/AJ Griffin (Duke 22)?… Rank if possible
1: Marjon Beauchamp/Dyson Daniels
2: Johnathan Kuminga/Isaiah Todd
3: Mark Williams/Jalen Johnson
4: Bennedict Mathurin/Dalen Terry
5: Wendell Moore/AJ Griffin
Very interesting. Any reasons you chose the way u did?
I feel like Marjon Beauchamp has the athletic ability to turn into a player like Aaron Gordon, and Dyson has a lesser Josh Giddey potential as a good passer who can score when he needs to.
Kuminga is very gifted athletically and is a future all-star, and I think Isaiah Todd can turn into a 3 and D role player on a championship-caliber team.
Mark Williams has very good potential on defense and is very good at rebounding, but I don’t think he’ll ever be an all-star and his potential is like a Kevon Looney, a good defender who gets his boards and his blocks, while Jalen Johnson is a player who is good, but I don’t think he’ll be an all-star either, and we haven’t seen enough of him yet, with him dropping out of Duke, then playing sparingly in the NBA.
Bennedict Mathurin is a high talent role player, who can potentially be an all-star once or twice, but I don’t think he will be. I don’t know too much about Dalen Terry but I don’t think he is a superstar in the making.
Lastly, I think Wendell Moore and AJ Griffin might be the biggest surprise, but I think AJ Griffin won’t turn into a superstar, or even an all-star which is not a popular opinion, but he could be a bust IMO. Wendell Moore will be a higher level 3 and d role player
These are just my opinions, but I feel like it could be possible it ends up like this in 10 years.
