Joel Embiid is listed as out for Game 3 against the Heat on Friday but the availability of the Sixers All-Star center could change before game time, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski tweets.
With Miami up 2-0 and the series shifting to Philadelphia, Embiid must be listed as out since he’s still in concussion protocols, Kyle Neubeck of PhillyVoice.com tweets. Listing him as “out” does not necessarily mean he will be sidelined for Game 3, but it means he hasn’t cleared protocols yet, Neubeck explains.
NBA injury list rules would allow the Sixers to update his status over the course of the day on Friday, Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel tweets.
Embiid suffered an orbital fracture and mild concussion when he was struck by Pascal Siakam in the late going of Philadelphia’s first-round clincher against the Raptors. The Sixers have been encouraged by Embiid’s progress this week.
The Heat have listed six players as questionable for Game 3, the team’s PR department tweets. Kyle Lowry (hamstring), Tyler Herro (ankle), Caleb Martin (ankle), Max Strus (hamstring), P.J. Tucker (calf) and Gabe Vincent (knee) hold that designation but are all traveling to Philadelphia this afternoon. Lowry hasn’t played since Game 3 of the first-round series against Atlanta.
If he doesn’t play game 3 and sixers lose its best not to play him the entire series and let him heal up.
Yesterday he said he still couldn’t even look at his phone due to the light. I doubt he plays until next week if they can last that long.
He has not cleared concussion protocols so he has to be listed as out. He could still play, but gotta get cleared first.
I too read the article.
Just before game time, check with the team DOC !!
If he can’t play we lose this series bye bye doc
Not sure we can win this now with the condition he is in anyway…even at full strength I expected a 7 game war.
Personally I want Doc gone, but losing a series you are not expected to win isn’t really the ammo I would look for.
He isn’t going to get fired for losing a series where Embiid was hurt and Harden played horribly. Not saying he shouldn’t be fired, but it isn’t going to be because of that.
I’m actually a Heat fan, but when they hired Doc Rivers, I felt bad for Joel Embiid, and the other guys they had. I just feel like they built the right team, and had the depth and everything, and he doesnt know how to manage a roster. Even now, it feels weird b/c even though the Heat are good enough to be where they are, I’m not satisfied with winning if things continue the way they are, at least this series, just b/c this is a matchup I’ve wanted to avoid for years, and now that they’re playing against each other, I would have considered it a really big deal if they actually won a series where both teams are coached correctly, and both teams are healthy..
Even though admittedly I like seeing Harden and Rivers lose in hilarious ways. I am a really big Embiid fan though, and I like the rest of their roster
Not having Embiid for most or all of the series, might help Doc Rivers keep his job, if anything. It would be his best excuse for losing.
Pretty sure it was accidental. Nonetheless fans across the league should lay into the Raptors all season long next year. To think that in the midst of getting your buttkicked one of your players injures the opposing teams MVP player minutes away from getting sent home. Terrible circumstance accident or not.
Should be a warning too for coaches in the future. If your team is up by 15 or more with 5 min left in the playoffs. TAKE YOUR STAR PLAYERS OUT UNTIL THE GAME GETS UNDER 10 AGAIN!.
A truly horrible take.
Says the Raptor fan.
In your first sentence you say it was accidental but then say fans of other teams should boo the Raptors anyway/ Doesn’t matter what team I cheer for, what you said makes no sense.
So what it was still a garbage scenario and they should be booed for it. And tou clearly see against it because you cheer for that team. So dont try to play me. Fans have a right to boo teams that cause unnecessary problems for their players no matter the instance.
How many GS fans hate Brooks although his seemed accidental? How many Bulls fans hate the Bucks guy for what happened to Caruso. All instances appeared “accidental”?
Just because you are old doesnt mean you are all wise my friend. Lol
It’s a wrap folks. Bleep you Siakam.
You still woulda lost in the second round yet again even if you had Joel. Salty.
Maybe…Maybe not? I would like to have had the opportunity to find out…oh well…it is what it is
Take some responsibility for your own Star players actions. Joel doing some bush league crap up by 30 and now he’s unavailable for your team. Joel caused that, not Pascal. Joel and Philly got what they deserved!
No way, man! It was somebody else’s fault. Anybody else. Squirrel!!
Joel was running around doing the airplane up by 30, and now the poor guy cant look at his phone, LOl!! Play stupid games, win stupid prizes, kids.
Spoken like a true keyboard warrior
It’s not the coaching problem.
It takes time for Doc to fix James Harden
Fixing Harden doesn’t mean Harden plays like MVP, but he scores 35 points per game without Embiid or 25 points with Embiid
Comparable to Luka?
No Doc is the problem, he’s gotta go…and it’s got nothing to do with Harden. They way he plays DJ when even the Lakers and Nets found him unplayable in the regular season…the way he does not make adjustments…the way he coaches like it is 2002 instead of 2022. Time for Sam Cassell to take the reigns
