The Mavericks have again been fined by the NBA for a “bench decorum” infraction, this time to the tune of a cool $100K, the league has announced (Twitter link). Dallas has already been dinged for $25K and $50K earlier in these playoffs for the same offense.
Dallas players and a coach are being penalized for both leaving the team’s bench and disrupting on-court activities during the team’s 126-117 loss to the Warriors in Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals. The Warriors currently lead the Mavericks 2-0 in the series.
“On multiple occasions, several players and a member of the coaching staff stood for an extended period in the Mavericks’ team bench area, stood away from the team bench, and were on or encroaching upon the playing court during game action” in the contest, per the league’s official statement.
The price for the penalty has doubled with each successive fine. As the series moves to Dallas tonight for Game 3, attendant referees might now be on high alert regarding the actions of the Mavericks bench during games.
Crazy when the entire Mavericks bench is dressed in dark but one guy, standing up of course, is in all white so naturally Curry thought he was open LOL.
they should warn about suspending them for being on the court. Last game there was a few over the line while play was going on. the fine is just chump change for the team
2 plays later he is standing toes on the court edge hands up calling for a pass like a player. I would suspend him from attending any games and for a couple to start the next season for that obvious cheating!
This penalty is such BS it should be so much higher with Tim Hardaway banned from attending the rest of the series.
Wearing a sweater that matches the opposing teams uniforms and then standing on the edge of the court should suspend him. Then after Steph mistakenly threw a ball his way he is jumping up and down on the edge of the court 2 plays later with hands in the air like a player calling for a pass.
Its blatant cheating and bush league as f***. If you cant win the right way you dont deserve to win at all.
Mark does not care about the small money
Next time it needs to be suspended
I don’t understand why this isn’t an in game foul? Like give the bench a warning obviously but then later infractions are a technical foul. I feel like that will stop the behavior pretty quickly around the league.
When your not even in uniform standing toes on the court calling for the ball that is a little worse than a tech. That should be a suspension for unsportsmanlike conduct.
What if a Warriors fan at Chase Center wore a Mavericks Jersey on the sidelines and jumped up and down asking for the ball at random times during the game? Think they might ask to get him kicked out?
Nah I said during the game that next game Iggy/Wiseman/GPII should wear a jacket, sweater, and shirt that each match one of the Mavs uni colors and then rock whichever one they choose. Do it super blatant if thats how they want to roll!
At least Kidd didn’t have anyone bump into him to spill his water though?
Memphis was doing the same thing. I didn’t hear of any fines.
Teams celebrating is fine. The problem was trying to interfere by calling for passes when your not even in uniform, and being all the way up next to the court while action was happening right in front of them. Oh and Mark Cuban acting like he is a bench player standing with them at the same time despite him not being allowed to stand on the sidelines like a coach!
Just gag them and strap them to dollies like Hannibal Lecter.
Maybe Warriors should learn who’s on their team
Funny. Don’t remember the Clippers getting fined for this when they did it the last two years in the playoffs.
This is the Western Conference Finals. Funny don’t ever remember the Clippers being there.
I mean they were last year lol weren’t they?
Ooops ! I think last year was one big blur. Thanks for the correction. I just find myself often ripping on the clippers because they’ve had such great teams but seem to exit in the first or second round.
The purpose of penalties is to alter behavior. That is not occurring, so the penalties need to be ramped up faster. And maybe stop using the word decorum; it doesn’t sound serious to some.
In this case the laws are only restricting the law-abiding. Enforce it or have nothing about it (just allow players to clown all they want… fans can in theory).
Odd to assume the league only notices if it’s the Mavs.
