The Warriors are a team to watch if the Jazz decide to trade Rudy Gobert this offseason, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst said on his latest Hoop Collective podcast (hat tip to Real GM).
There have been rumors for several years that Gobert and Donovan Mitchell have an uneasy relationship in Utah. Speculation that they might be broken up has resurfaced after the Jazz were knocked out of the playoffs in the first round.
During a discussion about possible trade destinations for Gobert, Tim MacMahon of ESPN, a guest on Windhorst’s show, joked that Gobert and Draymond Green have a great relationship and wondered if the Warriors could be a a potential landing spot for the three-time Defensive Player of the Year. Windhorst replied, “I have heard that rumor out there.”
Gobert has four years and about $170MM left on his contract, including a $46.6MM player option in 2025/26, so it won’t be easy for Utah to move him. Windhorst points out that Golden State has Andrew Wiggins‘ expiring $33.6MM deal for next season to help match salary.
Both Windhorst and MacMahon indicated that it’s more likely Gobert will be traded instead of Mitchell if Utah decides to split them up. There’s a belief that the Jazz want to hold onto Mitchell and rebuild the roster around him.
Mitchell is highly overrated.
How is Mitchell overrated? If anything he is rated probably.
*Proper
Defense!
He makes up for it for offense same with half of the superstars!
Mitchell and Rudy and the Jazz as a franchise are massively overrated and always have been. Contract that fraud team, there was never any Jazz in Utah to begin with.
Along with ALL those Lakes in Los Angeles?
Or Grizzly Bears in Memphis?
(I won’t even get into Knicks, Raptors, Wizards, etc)
The Jazz should actually be the Raptors (look up Dinosaur finds in Utah, “Utahraptor”).
Of course, teams move and their history of their team names becomes their reason to keep the names. It’s not always logical, but fun!
Otherwise, it could also be the Utah Lakers/Raptors, LA Fame/Stars, New Orleans Jazz, Toronto Barosaurus, etc.
But the main reason why Utah Jazz works is the size of both words. Both are 4 letters. LA Lakers are both L words. Plus, because both are naturally unrelated you know what they’re talking about when you say the name.
No, they should just trade names with the Pelicans. The largest population of great white pelicans live in a colony right in the middle of the Great Salt lake.
Lol there are knicks in NY. Knicks stands for knickerbocker. In 1809 there was a book published that contained tales such as rio van winkle and the headless horseman. This book was about the hidden history of NY and was called knickerbocker: the hidden history of ny. After that all New Yorkers were called knickerbockers. Die your research b4 making a joke jerkoff!!!!
Keeping Mitchell instead of Gobert would be a mistake for Utah. I think Donovan has one foot out the door and the other foot on a banana peel already.
I’m not sure how much I like Rudy on the Warriors. He’s Elite on defense sure but he’s the opposite on offense. Then he gets a little chirpy when he doesn’t get touches !!
Forever etched in my mind is the last playoff game Rudy went soft to the rim and the defender hit his forearm causing Rudy to miss the layup. Yes it was a foul but the ref didn’t call it and Rudy complained, grabbing his arm, saying he was hit. Yeah you were hit.., dunk the ball, there’s no foul there.., get stronger !! Not sure I want that guy for 5 years.
I’d rather have a Looney type for a FRACTION of the money, who’s decent on defense, and doesn’t want the ball on offense.
Agree that Utah is probably better off moving Donovan (although I doubt they will). But I’m not as low on Rudy.
Gobert to me has got a bit of a raw deal of late. Utah’s roster is horrendous defensively besides him. Mitchell hasn’t developed into a true All NBA level offensive player. Ultimately there’s only so much one defensive specialist can do.
I think Gobert in Golden State could be awesome depending on what they have to give up to get him.
A player has to do way more than what Rudy Gobert provides. Yes the defense is there and the block shots but I’d rather have Andrew Bogut, who was a championship Center who did what Gobert did PLUS was a premium Talent on offense at the top of the key with passing screening Vision distribution Etc. Rudy Gobert is none of those things.
Bogut was no where near Gobert’s level on D even if you count his cheap shots, moving screens and otherwise dirty play. Bogut couldn’t shoot, was unathletic and not nearly as efficient as Gobert. Every season Gobert in amongst the top in the league in screen assists. He’s the prototype for non shooting like, Capela and Allen should do offensively.
So Wiggins and Wiseman? Feel like Wiseman has more value than Rudy bc of the contract difference.
This trade will never ever happen and GSW arent interested in a non-winner.
They signed Durant and made him a winner
I think itd have to be something like wiggins, wiseman, and moody if they believe mitchell is going to request a trade. If im utah im trying to get as many young players from gsw as i can.
Trade will never happen but Rudy has 4xs the trade value of Wiseman even with the contract difference.
His on court value is probably greater than 10 times. Rudy in a 5 man line up is plus 10, Wiseman is negative to neutral at best. This isn’t even remotely debatelable
A’sfaninUK who suspiciously already has me on mute, so is probably someone not new—…
Utah ARE winners and an amusing mascot is not a reason why not. Last year, they had the NBA’s best record.
And no way they would be interested in a career loser like Wiggins, who GSW did not transform like GSW fans arrogantly thought they would, just by proximity.
Winners of what? It’s about rings, and Utah doesn’t have them
Winners of not investing in Russell & Wiggins, believing the GSW way will correct them.
The Warriors thinking about Rudy Gobert means they have soured on James Wiseman. I believe Wiseman and Wiggins will be on the move this summer. Be intriguing to see what they get back. Could be a game-changer like Gobert, which I’m not in favor of, or some other interesting name.
Nowhere in the article does it say that the Warriors are thinking about trading for Gobert. It is just flatulence from Windhorst.
They aren’t thinking about Rudy though. They are committing to Wiseman. This article is pure rubbish written by a GSW hater to throw off the team chemistry. Stop being fooled by clear lies like these. Shame on hoops rumors for even posting this total lie of a tweet.
You are right and wrong. There’s not an ounce of reality in a possible trade by the Warriors for Gobert, but to say it’s to throw off the team chemistry is laughably delusional! lol… it’s just a podcast trying to get more listeners. No need to be so tin foil hat crazy about it
The only deal I would do if I’m the Jazz:
GS gets Gobert
UT gets Poole, Wiggins, Wiseman
No picks. Great deal for Utah. Leaves GS perilously thin at PG. They might be able to snag a good PG in another deal.
Nightmarishly bad trade for GSW. Rudy isn’t even a top 3 player on this team and is one of the most overrated players in the NBA who simply will NEVER win in the playoffs with his style of play.
rudy-wiggs straight up is fair value for both sides.
Rudy Goebert is “light years” better than Jarret Allen for the Cavs and Garland made him a All Star this year just constantly throwing him lobs and him dunking leading to shooting like 70% from the field.
Goebert is smarter, better defender, just as much a dunker, wider and better in PnR. All he needs is a PG or team that knows how to utilize those things.
Mitchell who will shoot a pull up off the dribble 30 foot 3 pointer with 18 seconds left on the clock isn’t that point guard.
Rudy plays some of the most unselfish winning basketball in the League.
Gobert is on an island on offense. He pretty much only scores off lobs from teammates, and cant really post up on his own. JA has much better skills when banging bodies. I would say Gobert is a better shot blocker, and wonder if he was with better schemes and wing defenders if he could switch more and not play drop?
QB1, “unselfish winning basketball?” He whines when he doesn’t get enough touches.
A guy leading the entire NBA in True Shooting % should argue for more touches.
Correction
A guy leading the NBA in TS% shouldn’t have to argue for more touches.
Dude has a .732 TS% while still scoring 15 a game.
Just this “whining season” dude lead the NBA in
2pt fg%
TS%
Efg%
Defensive rebounding %
Total Rebounding %
All while putting in 15 ppg.
Those are things he is #1 in.
3rd in defensive wins shares
1st in D-RAPTOR
I don’t know where you would find it but I bet he’s also 1st to 5th in rebounds per 36 for anybody that plays 20 plus minutes a night.
Dude average basically 15 and 15 in 32 minutes while being a top 8 defender overall.
Agreed.
I think we just have to be clear on who Gobert is.
Is he LeBron James – who alone guarantees you (cough, minus this year) a spot as a contender? Not at all.
But is he an elite and unique All NBA talent? 100%
Rudt would be the 2nd best player on the team instantly
The team with 3 first ballot HOF players that all complement each other perfectly? Thats the team he is the 2 on?
Yep Klay and Donkey are both All time greats but they’re they’re on their decline.
At 31? I am not even sure if they have declined at all yet. Klay obviously is dealing with the injuries, but looks better and better where I think next season he may be mostly old Klay.
Just admit you’ve never really watched Gobert play because it’s painfully obvious by your comments
I don’t want to make trade with cheap Danny Ainge
Gobert contract is overpaid by $40 million
I am not offering Poole and Wiseman unless
Jazz attach 2026 and 2028 top-5 protected draft picks
I would be so bold to say that Jordan Poole is untouchable right now. He has that unique combination of quickness to the hole Plus incredible range on his shot. Add to that his hard-working attitude, which got him to this point, and Youth. He’s a lock to remain with the Warriors for the next few years at least.
I doubt they give up Poole either. But would GSW give up Kuminga or more likely, Moody, and Wiggins?— And Wiseman?— I doubt Utah wants to rely on Whiteside.
This is not real solid by Windhorst… Everyone is always trying to send a center to GSW, but Kerr has other plans… Namely, the speed the ball moves when GSW has it, and the importance of wings.
Dont know where rumors come from, but dont want to be stuck with another $170M contract. W’s need to lower luxury tax, and not increase it. Poole will be expensive and eventually Kuminga too, so no need for long term mega contracts. Besides, Green will want to get paid too.
Its pointless, Hoops rumors blew it by even posting this utter lie and total waste of everyones time.
Bet Brian Windhorst is a Grizz fan/Dubs hater, this is just to throw the team off right now and Arthur Hill at hoops rumors blew it by posting a non-rumor.
Might as well post a tweet to an unverified account next, no different to this…
I mean this is a thorough club Im sure they will do the due diligence on Gobert if he is available to see if they think it is a fit, but I expect the answer is no to that.
Kuminga/Moody and even Wiseman to a certain extent are all supposed to be paid in seasons after Klay/Dray need new deals that may pay a little less than the current ones. Also the cap is supposed to spike up big time with the new CBA so they should see a big cap increase right when dudes need to be paid as well. Poole is sooner, but if you dont keep Wiggins after next year then next year is the only real bad cash crunch.
Green signed team friendly contract 4 yrs for 100m. He will not go lower. Klay will be the onw who needs to make major sacrifice and also take 4 yrs for $100m.
Why would you as a fan care what the Warriors luxury tax hit is?
Gimme a break! It affects the team roster, no matter what front office says.
This is not a rumor. It is just some bozo pulling a name out of his booty and trying to pass it off as fact. 99% of these pipedreams go nowhere.
How pointless is this? Its not even a real rumor, its literally just some guy going “hey I have no real reason to say this, but the Warriors MIGHT go after Rudy!”
lmao what a joke media has become.
If Utah would trade Goebert to GSW for anything less than Moody, Kuminga, Wiseman,GPII, Poole and Looney then Utah got robbed. I want at least 5 of those 6 guys in the trade if I’m Utah. Everyone hates Whiteside, including myself and probably his self but he learned and showed a lot this year by trying to do a Goebert impression. He and Looney could form a very decent center combo especially if the offense adds top line gunners like Poole.
A GSW team with
Curry
GPII
Klay
Green
Goebert
Would win 70 games.
That defense is better than Bostons all switch defense.
Zero chance that a single one of Moody/Kuminga/Poole is offered noob!
Its Wiggins and some minor draft assets. Gobert is a decent player who is over paid sounds just like Wiggins!
Under any advanced analysis of any kind, Rudy has been one of the top 30 players in the NBA for the last 4 years. I’m not even going to look it up because it’s so obvious to any fan that doesn’t just see counting stats and stars.
Looney and Payton are free agents so they can’t get traded in off season. Also GSW would not trade all of the future players for a old player giving them 1 shot. There would be no money for the bench. They would need to include Wiggins in a trade.
Why worry about it the trade will never happen because GSW need to get rid of Wiggins contract for the future of the team and they are not bringing on another bad maxx contract in its place. This is just sport writers making up click bait.
Gobert is 29 years old = Prime
He is not a superstar big like Joker/Embiid/Giannis he is just a good player that takes work to build around because he wont thrive in every system.
You cant call a big that has zero shooting outside the restricted a top 30 player in the modern NBA. If he had his current skills, plus some semblance of a 3pt shot, and some ability to get buckets banging in the post, then yeah he would be a top 30 player.
He is a skinnier less skilled Brook Lopez. Dont act like he is a defensive superstar just because the Jazz designed a system that feeds him blocks and good on/offs because the defense is so Gobert centric that its a s*** show when he sits…
He is less the defensive problem than critics make him out to be, with the real culprit being zero perimeter defenders around him, but your looking at things in a very 90s basketball mindset if you think he is that great. Sure his counting stats and skills would be great in 96! In 2022 bigs that cant shoot get played off the floor just ask Steven Adams making more money than any other Griz while playing less…
U don’t have to be a super star to be the difference in points for vs points against.
Ole school fans think that way. Eye test and advanced see the value of Rudy. We just see the game different ways.
Why did Boston sell out on defense and somehow become betting favorites? It ain’t because of Marcus Smarts shooting %s. Wins and losses come down to more than stars.
He isn’t Giannis, Embiid and Joker, all top 10 type guys I’m saying he is easily top 25, big difference. And he is easily top 25 4 years running and has only increased his BBIQ.
He is under those guys but light years ahead of Wiseman who might not add 10 wins above replacement accumulated over the next 5 years while Rudy adds 10+ per single year.
If I’m the Cavs I’d give up
Jarret Allen, Sexton and 14th Pick for Goebert any day of the week.
Mobley/Goebert would represent probably the greatest defensive front court in Leugue history.
If Gobert is soooooo good as a modern defender why does his teams defense always completely crap out against good playoff teams in oh wait thats every year!
Playing funnel every action at Gobert makes him important to Utahs defense and able to rack stats, but he isnt good at defending like the Celtics do. RWIII is much better at modern defense Gobert forces a team to play poor defensive schemes that he looks good in.
Because Bogdon is the 4. Why are they always in the playoffs and always sub 500 without Goebert bit not without Conley or Mitchell.
How many playoff series has Gobert won again? He was in which finals Im forgetting? He hasnt been played off the floor in almost everyone? Man my memory sucks…
Why would winning the finals be the only goal?
One team wins and so everyone else failed that season?
Being competitive and having more points than your opponent on most nights is valuable. That’s what Rudy supplies at elite proportions compared to the average center. That’s not debatable. It’s like not wanting Warren Moon or Jim Kelly as your QB because they can’t win a Super Bowl
QB1: “Why would winning the finals be the only goal?”
Okay wow…, now we see the issue. You’re happy being “good.” Everyone else on this face of the planet wants to win the championship. It’s all very clear now why you say the things you do. Championship is not necessarily the goal for you. Gotcha.
96% of the League is happy to be good. Only one team wins and if the only roster moves a teams makes is to win the championship then the whole League would stand pat.
Rudy to GSW is a championship move. Rudy to the Clippers is a championship move.
Rudy for Wiggins is a lottery move.
Players I take over Gobert, by no means a comprehensive list:
LBJ, AD, Curry, Klay, Dray, PG, Kahwi, Giannis, Middleton, Ingram, Lillard, Embiid, Joker, Murray, Booker, Ayton, Zion, Cade, Mobley, SGA, KD, KI?, Butler, D Murray, Levine, DeRozan, Ja, Trae, Bane, Tatum, J Brown, Siakam, Miles Bridges, Mikal Bridges, Garland, Luka, KAT, Edwards, CP, Beal…
Didnt even work that hard and that is 41 players I take over Gobert. This is before looking at his contract status where a guy like Maxey/Poole have a far more advantageous deal. I mean I take Jalen Green over him with the contract/control status.
Those are players you would take and I’d take almost all of those. Nowhere amoungst those players are the random while good to potentially great role playing young guys the Warriors have nor the slightly above trash which is Wiggins.
Just because I’d take them doesn’t equate to the fact, I mean fact that Rudy is more effective at helping his team win a basketball game than half those guys.
I’d take Maxey plus 32 million to spent elsewhere over Goebert but that doesn’t mean that Maxey in a vacuum is more valuable to having more points than the other team at the end of a game. Maxey or half those guys don’t represent that.
If I’m Utah, I know I have a bad fit in those 2 guys and figure out somewhere to move Rudy somewhere that I get value for.
Wiggins is a joke.
Spurs for Poeltl, Vassell, McDermott or swap Keldon Johnson for Vassell.
That’s a fair trade and probably leans Spurs. It gets Jazz out of tax territory so it works both ways.
I went and looked it up. Over the last 4 years Rudy Goebert has put in 4 of the top 53 Wins Above Replacement rating.
Out of all NBA players and 4 years he has 4 of the top 55.
Only players like LeBron, Joker, Harden, Curry, PG13, Kawhi, CP3, Doncic have 3 years in that same range.
Literally the elite of the elite.
Considering Goebert anything less than a top 25 player in the League is evidence that you don’t know what your talking about.
WAR is based in a large part on BPM, and its easy to put up good BPM when the defense doesnt even sort of work if your off the floor. They have had zero second unit big defense with the same poor perimeter defenders in the second unit and still playing drop.
Joker looked great on defensive metrics this season because of how trash DEN was when he sat. Did he look like the defensive stud that the numbers said while GSW just abused him on switches over and over. Just like lots of blocks dont make you DPOY, or do you want to just start giving the award to Myles Turner every season?
Of course match ups will dictate some noise is stats.
Joker for example varies stat to stat. Rudy doesn’t. Always elite. Eye test as well. The shots guys don’t shoot because of Goebert is of even greater relevance.
It won’t matter whether it’s DARKO, LEBRON, RAPTOR or whatever I’m quite sure Rudy’s overall effect is top 25 positive. That’s off eye test and memory of watching him play. Like I said it’s not worth even looking it up because it should be obvious.
He is a good old school rim protector. Too bad he causes so many wide open 3s, you know the best shot in basketball. Its the old school big in the modern NBA problem. If you come out I cook you for a gimmie layup if you stay back wide open 3 off the screen. Its why the POR teams defense has been so bad, they play Gobert defense with a worse version of Gobert.
It doesnt change the fact that the last team to win the finals playing drop was before 2014 when the 3pt NBA started. If Gobert can play totally different in another system with better perimeter players around him awesome, but your taking a risk trying to test that.
An argument can be made that Bogdon is the worst defender in the NBA over the last few years. No matter what amongst the top 10 in big minutes getters.
Mitchell has been trash on defense.
Clarkson only has the option of being trash on defense. At least with Mitchell he just chooses to be trash not is forced to be trash on defense. Idk which is better, by nature or choice.
Bogdon is top 10 bad trash on defense.
If Utah has RoCo instead of Bogdon/Ingles then problem solved.
And this isn’t to diss Bogdon because he’s good on offense and smart and feisty. But having Bogdons help or close out on a 3 is like having K Love do it. It ain’t happening. Its other stuff they bring to even it out but ijs
I think you mean Bojan. Bogdon is on the Hawks. Bojan is better on defense in the playoffs than people give him credit for.
I just think the Jazz got fearful and lost their identity this season. They definitely need to make a change. I’m actually leaning towards coaching change just because of the lack of adjustments and never playing the young guys like they’re the plague.
If I’m trading players then I trade Conley, O’Neale and Bojan. Bring in long, athletic 3-and-D guys. Give Mitchell the PG duties or possibly one of the guys you bring in.
If you want Caris Levert and the 14th Pick, I’ll take Mike Conley.
Utah caught some bad injuries and had a bad attitude. Conley and Oneale are unique in that they do exactly what they’re suppose to do when they’re suppose to do it. Those traits always have value.
Royce is the Jae Crowder no one really knows that doesn’t watch the Jazz. He just goes out there and gives positive minutes day in and day out.
Ingles injury hurt a lot.
Maybe Rudy for Nurkic and Hart. It’s sideways and doesn’t move needle though.
Rudy, Royce, Conley, Butler and Azuibuke for Myles Turner, Warren and Mcconnell
I’d say Nurk and Bledsoe’s expiring contract plus the 1st that just lost value with NO making playoffs
Chapman good points & argument, but funneling players to the center is a freedom not a chore. In theory Gobert is helping perimeter players by letting them leave early— (although this has not happened as efficiently this year).
This freedom would move to GSW if he was traded there— or it could in theory.
Kerr probably blocks this trade tho. GSW has a tradition of no prominent centers starting at least with Don Nelson.
Wiggins would help as he’s a plus defender on the wing but he isn’t anywhere near Gobert’s value.
You wouldn’t get any combination of 3 of those players, let along all 6 of them lol
Gobert for Anthony Davis straight up. Both teams need to re-shuffle their decks & both would have reason to believe this move would make them better
You’re the first person on here that actually understands Rudy value on a basketball court. Rudy effects a teams wins and losses probably to the equivalent of a AD. AD is better in a vacuum and has simply greater potential but is injury prone.
Lakers: Rudy and a protected 1st top 20
Utah: AD
Lakers actually gain a tradeable first in the deal. Now that u can’t go under a screen on LeBron him and Rudy are a killer combo. Now Rudy and Russ, not so much. So Russ has to be moved somehow in this deal.
The only way that trade makes sense is if LA is tearing it down. Gobert fits worse with LBJ who doesnt want clogged paint. The problem for LA is the players around LBJ/AD not those two themselves.
LA only has 3 players under real contracts. They are tearing it down no matter what. This way they gain a 1 to ship off Russ with.
Lol
Russ and a 1 to OKC for Isiah Roby straight up
Lakers get a trade exemption and a bunch of free cap space.
If your tearing down you send AD somewhere and if Gobert is involved you reroute him to a 3rd team while acquiring future assets. If LBJ remains on the team Gobert for AD is a non starter.
If I’m LeBron I maybe agree but anything that facilitates the exit of Russ is on the table. A 1 or multiple protected 1s does that.
Lebron has to ask out or they do nothing but try and move off Russ and reload.
An LA team cant send out Bron unless he asks out. If he demands a trade they rebuild, if he doesnt they do what they can around him and AD. Pretty simple logic to it.
If I’m Bron and I can move AD and Russ for Goebert and a 47 million dollar trade exemption then I’m doing it.
Lakers: Rudy Goebert, cap space + trade exemption for say 40 million, rando guy like Aaron Wiggins or Isiah Roby
OKC: Russ, 2 protected Utah 1sts and or Laker 27 protected 1st
Utah: AD
Works out for everybody.
Qb1 : lol…gobert for ad and westbrook? Its ok for ad, but westbrook?why would utah take bad player with huge contract? But i really hope my bulls get gobert. Im big fan of gobert. For me, he is so underated.
I think he is trying to say you trade AD for Gobert and a pick(no way in hell LA does this) and then trade Westbrick with a pick attached into OKC room so you get a trade exception for Westbrick and Gobert.
Dont think Gobert fits next to LBJ as well as AD, also it would be way more from Utah for AD than Gobert and a first. As I said the only way it happens is if they were blowing up the Lakers roster, but then it would be Gobert rerouted to a 3rd team.
If this actually happened (which it won’t), it would be like when the 7SOL Suns got Shaq. Like sure, Gobert is a great player, but he doesn’t fit the team either in playstyle or attitude. Just going to create problems.
Warriors are a better future team with Wiseman, Kuminga, Moody, and Poole. So why trade any of them. I do see them trying to trade Wiggins in the off season to reduce payroll.
In no way does a Kuminga, Poole Moody team win 70. The Goebert team wins 70.
They are 19, 19, and 22 HTF do you know what they will look like as prime players in their mid to late 20s.
Kuminga has more upside, and by the end of next year more trade value, than Gobert alone.
Wiseman needs work/health, but he is a modern center who has the size to learn shot blocking, and the speed athleticism and shooting to play uptempo spaced GSW basketball. Gobert would get run off the court playing in his own teams actions!
2 championships are worth it. GSW with Goebert wins 2 of the next 4 championships and averages I would say 67 wins a season.
QB1 = Rudy on a troll account
He does not play ball/player movement offense, or switching/zone defense.
Gobert would be good on some teams, GSW isnt one of them.
The team wont trade them because they dont want to make a Lakers esq mistake trading all depth for one expensive player and then having to even more build out 65% of the roster on vet min deals.
At least with Wiggins his deal ends soon, and you have the option of bringing him back for less or clearing that payroll.

Dude go listen to any of the Lowe Post or Hollinger and Duncan podcasts discussing Gobert they will say the same sorts of things I am about his value, how many teams he fits on, and how the stats should be viewed.
Also Hollinger had the 53 win warriors as a 33 win team missing the playoffs in his pre season numbers so what does he really know about this team?
GSW go small. Does RG work in a go small lineup? If not than why would they trade for him?
Hollinger actually just wrote an article about it.
In it he basically said the same thing I did. That Rudy’s value is top tier elite but he is reality a tier below. He questioned whether a team would offer a Harden, PG13 package for a player of that caliber but obviously less upside and cache.
That’s the type of package I would want if I’m Utah. I was never saying GSW would do it but that I would except nothing less if I was Utah and supplying clearly the best player in the trade.
Rudy in GS especially using Wiggins in trade. Is a very intriguing move. They have to get Wiseman and I would ask for Kuminga too. That I do if I’m Utah.
Jazz are definitely at a crossroads. This team has peaked already. It makes sense to move Rudy. But you can’t just give him away. Trade to GS is probably best for both teams.
So in this modern wings are everything NBA your giving up the teams top wing defender, and the best young wing they have for a center that cant shoot, and doesnt play well on the perimeter on defense forcing the switch team into drop?
Rudy only doesn’t switch well because the 4 is Bogdon.
People get caught up in anecdotal occasions where a pg shoots over Rudy but especially Curry. Curry is the center match up Killer.
The Dejountay Murray’s of the world ain’t getting that off on Rudy. Luka and Curry can do that but only like 8 players in the whole League can consistently have Rudy switch on them and they take advantage of it.
I bet he is still top 5 centers defensively on switching to point guards.
Apples to Apples.
He doesnt switch well because he is slow footed and cant keep up with guards on the perimeter.
The GSW whole secret weapon is Dray at the 5 and going small. So you want them to add a big who they have to play making small ball, the thing that one 3 titles, a thing of the past! Do you not understand why this idea is dumb for this team or am I crazy!
Imagine a GSW vs GSW game
The GSW with Green and Goebert wins
It works because they lack Goebert but against a team with a good 4 as a helper kills that.
Example of coaching
Don’t put Rudy of the guy guy setting the pick, put Green so the switch is Green on point guard (Curry) and now Rudy is still the help defender as a shot blocker, shot deter’er, close out guy if there is a wing kick or rebounding on the crash.
Like I said it only works because Utah can’t use Bogdon as the primary defender on the roller off PnR. If it was Green or a Mobley at the 4 then all thats shut down. Even a guy like John Collins or Horford as a 4 defender shuts all that noise down.
GSW = the go small team
Gobert isnt small!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pounds head into wall repeatedly!
The reason Wiseman is interesting is that he could play like a stronger screening KD on offense. Wiseman is supposed to turn into the play small big who can still give you defensive shot blocking and rebounding. If the project works they have a big designed for the system they run.
The only time Wiseman has been a positive on a basketball court in the last 4 years was for 7 games in the American Athletic Conference.
He has skills but to act like those are likely to translate to NBA wins anytime soon is just making stuff up.

Is a plus 12 net minimum. Likely a 65-70 plus win team.
Is that what we’re doing. Wiggins is gone. GS is not paying him. You need to get updated to argue. Cause otherwise you sound uninformed. So very quite to ME.
In this scenario I’d give up Wiggins to Raptors. Cause I wouldn’t want to pay him either.
Kuminga is nice but he is the future. This trade is about now. I guess you can’t see that either. Maybe you can look this up. He avg 17 mins a gm. In playoffs he played 25 mins against Nuggets. Get informed please
Wiseman is going no where. GSW can attach a pick to Wiggins and trade him and still get some value. Charolette may do it for Heyward since Wiggins is expiring.
Other than the Sixers, Nuggets and maybe the Lakers if AD is the starting center.
No other team in the NBA is better with there current center over Goebert.
Except any team not running a traditional center.
I take Bam over Gobert 8 days a week!
I forgot Bam, it’s questionable. If you have a true point guard then the Bam Sabonis point center is less valuable.
Example Atlanta is better with Rudy than Bam.
Utah is better with Rudy than Bam because with Conley, Mitchell and Clarkson Bams playmaking doesn’t translate as well.
But Bam is a good example. I forgot Bam, but that also speaks to how good Rudy is still.
You forget a lot.
You forgot MIN with KAT (although he has had a down year, hopefully he will pick it up next year)!
It seems very lame of UTA to wanna build a team around Mitchell… safest way to as always be a 1 & done team in the playoffs, if you even make it, right?
I mean if you are gonna build a team around one of the 2 is gotta be Rudy, Mitchell is just meh…
I give you KAT also. But KAT and Bam are toss ups. Neither clearly supplies more wins than Rudy.
And if you notice we are only naming all world talents.
I think we can all agree that the Jazz do need to make changes. The moves to please Donovan need to stop. Get players that are needed not for brownie points. Actually play the young talent.
The Jazz could use a big PG, versatile and athletic PF, and a long and athletic SF. That means trading Conley, O’Neale, and Bojan.
Conley and O’Neale are too small for their positions if you’re keeping Mitchell. Bojan isn’t athletic enough or long enough to punish inside on offense and be a great rebounder and shot blocker on defense. Too much is placed on Gobert.
They need a go-to inside scorer the most. They could still keep Gobert and Mitchell if they do that and above.
Another option is bringing in an elite passer. That changes a lot. Conley is a good but not elite passer.
Put the ball in Mitchell’s hands. Move O’neale to the 2, trade Clarkson for whatever, move Conley to the bench to run the 2nd unit and go all in on a big wing like Grant or Otto Porter Jr.
Conley is a terrific passer. This is not a Utah problem priority. But then given their system, all the guards have to do is funnel opponents to Gobert.
The playoffs fail for them because this system does not work every time… and 7-game serieses allow opponents to find a workaround.
You did not say anything about them scrapping their philosophy. So you just want everything perfect like a table setting?
Rudy makes the Warriors the team to beat. The next three yrs. If you do t see that. Then you need to follow another sport.
Now I doubt this will ever happen. But Warriors do have the players to make this trade work. But this is a fantasy.
I guaranteeing the people low balling Rudy’s value don’t really qualify as people who follow the sport and have seen less than 12 Jazz games this year.
Warriors offense has never needed a center , the rotational defense is good enough in todays day and age as long as everyone’s playing at 100% effort (which they are)
I could see Wiggins and Wisemans 40+ mill being up for parcel but don’t see Rudy as the incoming piece . Poole and GP3 ($$) make the situation even harder to to sift thru
Summation- GSW can go in any direction it likes, this is a dream if your the FO but the NBA moves fast so there’s no time to ever pat yourself on the back…they’ll get a short vacay and then back in the office for 12 hr days in the midsummer heat preparing for 23′
If the Jazz want to try to win they wouldn’t trade Gobert to Golden State. The Warriors only have one asset that would help them win now if they trade Gobert and Curry ain’t going nowhere. If they trade Gobert to G.S. for Kuminga and Wiseman they should go ahead and trade Mitchell, Bogie, Clarkson and Conley as well. Blow the whole thing up and start over.
In a perfect world, the Jazz could run it back by adding a true leader to this team. Donovan and Rudy have shown they can be great, same with their main roster pieces. They’re just lacking a true leader. Chris Paul, for example, would’ve been perfect.
Conley is too passive. He needs to amp up his aggression to 11 in the playoffs if he wants to win. I don’t see that happening on this team.
O’Neale is also too passive and scared to shoot most of the time. He’s always just moving the ball through. Rarely looks for his shot on this team.
Bojan is a good to great player still. He’s just not much of a shot blocker to help Rudy.
I don’t mind keeping Clarkson, because of how aggressive and consistent he was in the playoffs. He’s shown he’s not scared. Wish the coach would utilize more in the clutch. He did that a few times, but need more.
BTW, the leader doesn’t have to be a PG. Just needs to be great at inspiring confidence in his teammates. Confidence is the number 1 quality in a winning player and team. The Jazz’s confidence hasn’t been the same since January.
Gobert/Hernangomez for Wiggins/Wiseman/Moody/3 1sts get it done
