A day before Game 2 of his team’s second-round series against the Warriors, Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins said that center Steven Adams remains in the league’s health and safety protocols, Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN tweets. Adams, who was placed in the protocols on Thursday, is listed as out for Tuesday’s game, the team’s PR department tweets. Starting guard Desmond Bane is listed as questionable due to lower back soreness. Bane was limited to nine points in 32 minutes in Game 1 on Sunday.
We have more from the Western Conference:
- Rudy Gobert and his agent are still awaiting their annual exit meeting with the Jazz, Tony Jones of The Athletic tweets. That meeting will likely determine how the two sides proceed going forward into the offseason, Jones adds. Utah is expected to shake things up after another early playoff exit. Gobert has four years remaining on his five-year, $205MM contract.
- Reggie Bullock‘s defensive importance was so profound against the Jazz that the Mavericks played him 254 of a possible 288 minutes in the series. Brad Townsend of the Dallas Morning News writes an in-depth piece on Bullock and how personal tragedies have shaped his career. Bullock is in the first year of a three-year deal, though the final season isn’t fully guaranteed.
- The NBA upheld Draymond Green‘s Flagrant Foul 2 ruling in Game 1 of the Warriors’ series against the Grizzlies. The player who was fouled, Brandon Clarke, wasn’t surprised that Green committed such an infraction (ESPN video link). “He’s been known for flagrant fouls in his career. I’ve watched him on TV my whole life, it feels like, so I wasn’t really shocked,” Clarke said.
Brandon Clarke is a young kid so it not surprising he says something that stupid in the playoffs. You say nothing and go ahead and play. You never give the opposing team any motivation. Clarke does act like he never been in the playoffs before. Now he is getting a reputation as a flopper.
Because Dray grabbed his jersey while in the air and pulled him down. Fooled you. There is no such reputation of Clarke that I have heard of, indeed his style is the opposite and he’s a jumper.
A midsize “smallball” center is going to be expected to try to take charges, taking advantage of quicker feet, so it would be an rumor easy to believe… except for finding evidence.
And charging is a foul, except for WWE fans… And GSW homers defending Dray. ^^
So let me ask you this should the NBA allow Refs that are from the hometown be in that series? So if a San Francisco home based Ref be allow to Ref a GSW playoff game?
Second if you watched the game why did Clarke pretend to be hurt on the play by staying on the ground and he even admitted to be accused of flopping? How does a player as big as Clarke get knocked 8 feet to the ground standing solid on a slight bump by Curry who is 80 lbs and 8 inches shorter?
Earlier you said Clarke denied being a flopper which proved he was. Hmm very deep.
6 inches and 30 pounds per Bas.Ref… If Clarke got knocked “8 feet to the ground”, then he was up in the air, and airborne players can easily be knocked off course. But that didn’t come up in youtube, and I did not see it.
Clarke played center 1% of his minutes during the RS… Maybe he is out of sorts with this fulltime assignment and taking charges to compensate. But he is not the type… Of course neither is Marcus Smart and he learned to.
Nobody brought up him flopping but himself shows the guilt. Bring up the offensive foul on Curry where Clarke flop. Can’t find the video of the charge. They called 3 charges on Curry and only 1 was a charge.
Watch the out of bounds play at the end of the game James Williams (Memphis hometown ref) clearly saw it was off Grizzles. maybe the worst officiated game I have ever seen. When Scott Foster is a breathe of fresh air being the crew chief you know how bad game 1 was officiated.
Dray is dirty. Someone needs to let him know that. Both fouls were Not basketball related. You grab the ball. You stop the play. He grabs body parts to send a message. His day is coming.
Clarke is a solid young team player. He plays both ways and is all about team. Grizz did well to draft him.
Reggie Bullock is showing his worth. Basketball is a 2way sport. During 82 gm season. We may not respect D the way we should. But in a 7 gm series. It’s obvious how important it is. And how important those players are to winning a series. 254 mins of a possible 288. That’s a statement ……
I’m glad they don’t take hard fouls lightly. No room for thug behavior, in any sport really. Why risk hurting someone just because you want to win? That’s really messed up!
Here’s a wild trade idea. It works financially according to Fanspo trade machine.
Hornets receive: Rudy Gobert
Jazz receive: Jerami Grant, D’Angelo Russell, and Mason Plumlee. A first round pick, number #15 from Charlotte
Timberwolves receive: Mike Conley, Kelly Olynyk
Pistons receive: Gordon Hayward, Jaden Mcdaniels,James Bouknight, two first round draft picks, #19 from Minnesota and #13 from Charlotte
Like this idea but swap Hayward and Conley around.
TWolves then have Beverly Ant Hayward Vanderbilt and Kat with Beasley off the bench.
Pistons first of all draft Chet Holgrem then line up Conley Cade Bey Stewart and Holmgren. Conley can help Cade develop as a passer and playmaker. Bouknight and McDaniels would be great for the bench and the rebuild.
Jazz get a solid return Dlo Spida Grant Bogi Plumblee and a first.
Hornets get a solid return and need Gobert.
Yeah, not bad. Even better if the Jazz could somehow sign Mitchell Robinson as a FA.
No surprise that Kidd, a basketball savant in many ways, would appreciate Bullock. Too many NYK fans did not. More disappointing is that the NYK FO apparently didn’t (even with the HC pounding the table on his behalf). Other FO decisions may have had worse results, but none were more inexplicable at the time they were made, and certainly none were as inconsistent with their own stated off season goals. Hopefully, this off season they’ll focus on fixing what’s broke, before using finite resources to try to upgrade what isn’t.
