Suns star Chris Paul‘s mother and wife were involved in an altercation during Game 4 in Dallas, Dave McMenamin of ESPN tweets. A source told McMenamin that at least one Mavericks fan put their hands on Paul’s mother, and his wife was pushed. Paul took to social media after the game.
“Wanna fine players for saying stuff to the fans but the fans can put they hands on our families….f— that!!,” he wrote.
The Mavericks also released a statement and removed the fan from the game. “The Dallas Mavericks are aware of an incident between a fan and the family of Chris Paul,” the statement read, as relayed by McMenamin. “It was unacceptable behavior and will not be tolerated. The Mavericks, along with American Airlines Center, swiftly removed the fan from today’s game.”
There’s more from the Western Conference tonight:
- The Warriors–Grizzlies series appears to be losing some steam, Chris Herrington of The Daily Memphian writes. Herrington opines that this matchup was supposed to be the fun playoff series, but injuries, suspensions and hard fouls have derailed its momentum. As we outlined earlier, Grizzlies star Ja Morant is likely to miss Monday’s Game 4 due to a knee injury.
- Ethan Fuller of BasketballNews.com previews the Timberwolves‘ offseason. Minnesota is coming off one of its most successful seasons in recent memory, making the playoffs for just the second time in the last 17 years. The team must decide whether to make a major move (such as trading D’Angelo Russell) or make minor adjustments with hopes of improving next season.
- Suns star Deandre Ayton refuses to watch any NBA games that don’t include his team, Sopan Deb writes for the New York Times. “I just can’t watch it because I have principles when it comes to this game,” Ayton said. “And, you know, I’ve just seen too many principles and bad habits that it messes with me. So I don’t watch it at all.”
Grizz fans lobbying for a Poole suspension is beyond sad. Especially after Brooks’ very blatant revenge hit on young glove. I do like the intensity of this match up though. These two teams are going to leave it all on the court, regardless of who takes the series.
“Blatant [and] revenge” also describes grabbing a bad knee. Maybe try Kerr’s “code” label.
Gotta keep suspending them until they knock it off. An espn article showed one on Bane too.
Maybe some enjoy it, but if one of these two wins the PO, they will have a rep, and provide a reason to disdain the title, like with the “bubble title” 2020.
The Memphis paper said this series should have been fun. And about what event injured Morant’s knee, “Morant… flies around and lands oddly all the time.” Also that one of his new sponsor ads premiered using his mantra: “Welcome to the dark”.
I think Morant overexerts and will not last long in his current state. His leadership effect does not fit his skinniness.
Memphis aggressiveness is not in their star’s best interest… One cannot blame it all on GSW, but not getting a center, relying on harrassment in the lane instead, put a big weight on Draymond.
I feel terrible for Chris Paul and his family. Regardless of how the situation escalated and who was at fault, bottom line is we’ve lost respect for our fellow man.
Instead of treating people with dignity and honor, especially those older than us, we have loose lips and corrupt minds. It’s a darn shame.
I’m guilty as well. There’s times when I’ve written things here on this site that I regretted later. I try to offer olive branches after the fact but sometimes damage is done and it’s too late.
Society as a whole, with me in first place, needs to do a better job of being respectful.
Well said, Gary. I very much like the sentiment expressed in your post.
JustSayin, nice of you to offer the kind words. I just really need to be better at realizing I’m a knucklehead BEFORE things happen instead of realizing I’m a knucklehead after it’s too late. Lol.
Wrong. Go ahead and be nice to people. See where it gets you. I totally agree acting like Jesus and being kind is what god wants. But if you act like that in real life u will have a horrible life. I am going to tell my kid you can be nice and finish last or do what’s best for u at all times and get ahead. If that kid was starving on the street Chris Paul wouldn’t give him a dime. And nor should he. So why should I or anyone else care if a kid cursed out Chris Paul. This is society. You want to try and be nice and change the world. Lol. Go ahead. You can read books to the elderly and help the homeless get job training. I’m gonna curse out Chris Paul’s wife and laugh about it. We’ll see who enjoys life more. Just a dose of reality for u
Skylark, I disagree. There’s so many different ways to reply to what you’ve written. It’s simply this though, respect for your fellow man or person. You first, I am last, Etc. (One of my Christian buddies has a wristband says “I am second.” I say to him, no way man, I am last.)
I understand your sentiment and you’re not alone. Let’s see if other people care to chime on this topic. Thank you for your thoughts.
Thoughts and prayers for your kid. What a way to be brought up.
I’m not saying one should be nice all the time—there are certainly times when you have to push or fight back—but the level of cynicism here is borderline insane.
And even if someone would come out further ahead in terms of accomplishments, what good is that is they would treat others like crap and make society worse for those around them? There is a way to find a balance. It is not an all or nothing proposition in terms of self vs society.
The way I see it is that there is always someone out there that is worse off than I am. Through that thinking I am able to reach out and be kind to others in the community.
Well said! I am the same way. But what I now know is that one person can be a beacon in a community and to be infectious when it comes to being kind to one another.
“bottom line is we’ve lost respect for our fellow man.”
Honestly, I’m not sure it ever existed to begin with. Sure, polarization in this country has increased in recent decades thanks to the internet, social media, and endless bad actors, but the history of the human race is pretty grim. This is just the same sort of cycle repeating itself in a new way.
Not that I disagree with the heart of your message because it’s true.
Preach Gary
Your a good egg
Part of the problem is he anonymity the internet provides. New generation is going to have a tough time displacing the 2 (real vs internet world)
There’s going to be some tough lessons lost in the process, particularly with males in the form of a good whippin when stepping over the boundaries.
Im honestly surprised they dont have a friends and family section so your guests are all sequestered together in a section with security. I guess wives and mothers wear less ice than a guy on the DNPIL.
The NBA’s latest injury report is out. Ja Morant is officially listed as doubtful for Game 4 against the Warriors Monday night with right knee soreness.
They are just as good without him.
TWolves fans, what’s it taking for you to deal KAT? All I hear from the media is he’s too childish and doesn’t have it in the playoffs. Is this the year you pull the trigger? Do you take Middleton?
The Wolves just had their best season since Jefferson was president. Why would they trade one of their two big stars, who is still young too? (and team him with Giannis????? Makes no sense.) They’d probably like to get rid of DLo’s contract, maybe one of the few teams who’d trade for Westbrook.
@Brad Connelly… you must stop like yesterday listening to the media, dude!
KAT is a megastar that has played the last 5 years at MVP level, this year not quite there, but, he is still great & by far the best player the franchise has ever had with KG.
Maybe try watching the game instead of reading about it, my friend!
Ayton could do with watching other centers play, he is very good, but has plenty to learn, much of his game must improve still!
Man, sports fans can be the worst.
Who does that?!
Sometimes the commentators mics pick up fans seated nearby and some of what they say is just inane, puerile, whiny and annoying…
Props to the refs again for making this game extra tensed for so little reasons …
Sports fandom is just another mirror of society.
When each day U.S. citizens shoot each other over trivialities such as traffic disputes, snow shoveling disagreements and Chuck E. Cheese sauced meatballs, how could one expect civilized behavior from Neanderthals, wearing another man’s name on the back of their overstretched athletic jerseys?
nahh Sports is a escape from the world for those who watch the game. The bigger problem is those wearing a political party or political leader shirt. It shows they do not question things.
The problem is twofold
First, sports ARE a part of the real world whether we like it or not, and we should treat each other no differently than we would like to be treated in normal society. The excuse of it being an escape for some never justifies such behavior, but some individuals would continue to operate as such. It reminds me of those who weaponize religion in pursuit of their own selfish ends.
Second, for some, sports is less of an escape and more of a core component of their self identity in the same fashion as a person treating politics as a team sport. Being a part of something bigger than oneself can give a person a new sense of purpose, a place they feel they can belong, and a way to justify any and all behavior so long as it would be in support of that, all of which is fine in limited doses but some take things too far. The reasons for that vary, but the bottom line is sports are no longer just sports for these individuals. Sports become a way to live vicariously through something that, in reality, we have no impact on with our fandom. And when you begin to treat anything like that—sports, politics, religion—you tend to run into trouble.
