3:13pm: The Kings have officially announced the trade, reports Sean Cunningham of Fox 40 KTXL (via Twitter).
11:59am: The Cavaliers will pick up a second-round draft choice in a trade with the Kings, tweets ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Cleveland will send the draft rights to Sasha Vezenkov to Sacramento in exchange for pick No. 49 in tonight’s draft.
The Cavs will also ship $1.75MM to the Kings in the deal, according to Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com (Twitter link).
Cleveland now has three second-round picks at 39, 49 and 56, along with a first-rounder at No. 14. The Kings are left with picks No. 4 and 37.
Vezenkov, a 26-year-old forward, was a first-team All-EuroLeague selection this season, Wojnarowski notes. He has played for Olympiacos in Greece for the last several seasons and averaged 13.8 PPG and 5.6 RPG on .547/.388/.840 shooting in 31 EuroLeague games (29.6 MPG) in 2022/23.
Vezenkov was drafted by the Nets with the 57th pick in 2017, and his NBA rights were sent to Cleveland in the 2021 James Harden trade.
Cavs whipping up something bigger! Because there’s no way we draft 4 players tonight.
They may have received confirmation that so-and-so would sign a 2W deal if drafted in the 2nd round. So, two of those 2nd rounders could be your 2W guys, and I can almost guarantee one is for I. Mobley.
You’re overestimating the value of second round draft picks.
I think the Kings will bring him over from Europe for this season
OG would be a solid fit for them.
OG for Allen makes sense for both teams.
It makes even more sense if M Williams is available at 14!!!
@AB
That’s an incredibly risky way if looking at things. In one hand you have an expensive yet proven commodity in Allen. On the other you have relatively cheap and controlled unproven talent based purely off of projection based off of lower level play and athleticism. These draft picks have an incredibly high rate of falling short of expectations.
Lol no they definitely don’t have an incredibly high rate of falling short of expectations. The way you guys see this game & this league & most importantly these players is just so twisted.
@Sankara
you’re crazy. they draft 60 guys and maybe if it’s a great draft they hey 2 hof, 3 or 4 allstars, 6-8 starters/ rotation guys and the rest might go overseas or to a new profession.
Yea those numbers don’t sound right at all. But whatever the #s are, if there’s 6-8 starters in every draft (obv there’s more) then you should only expect that many & then you won’t have the problem of guys failing to meet your expectations. But yea lol you got 14 guys sticking from every draft & the rest washing out that’s ridiculous.
How many is it then?
Cavs withstood injuries to key guys all season & stayed in contention. But when Allen got hurt they were absolutely terrible. They need him badly
They need A Def Anchor badly. Do you think Mark Williams with a 10ft standing reach, can Anchor your def…
U MUST UNDERSTAND… CAVS ARE PLAYING OUT OF POSITION..
MOBLEY IS NOT A STRETCH 4. HES JUST NOT. MARKENAN IS NOT A 3! HE JUST IS NOT…
MOBLEY AT 19 WAS NOT PHYSICALLY READY TO BANG W 5S. AT 20 NEXT YR HE STILL MAY NOT BE READY.
BUT WITH 2-3 YRS TOPS, HE WILL BE READY. MAYBE HE PUTS ON 20LBS OF MUSCLE.
AND IF YOU WANT ALLEN & MOBLEY TO STAY AT 4 & 5 & GO BIG.. MOBLEY NEEDS BE HIGH POST & JA low post.
OG Anuonoby at the 3x is exactly what Cle needs. Plus if they can secure Mark Williams on top of that, the bug guy from Duke who plays nerf ball w 10ft hoop. Dude is elite.. elite.Elite.. shot blocker & dunker..
He has more upside than JA potentially..
& will be on a rookie deal.
W Cle needing Nax $ to pay DG, & eventually max for Mobley.
Paying 20mil for JA, don’t make alot of sense I’m a few yrs time. Now it’s OK. But in 2 yrs.
Allen will be gone..
Or Markenan will be on bench playing 4 & Cle will find their wing in draft.
Dalen Terry
Jalen Williams
2x sleepers…
Also N Jovic…
Who is more offensive but if Cle trades back w SA at 20 & 25 he could be option. Also Beauchamp.
And Cle loves Dieng too tho he prob be gone.
You start off by saying Cleveland needs a defensive anchor badly but then u say they need to trade the perfect defensive anchor that they just signed to a long-term contract lol. How does that make sense?.. By replacing Allen with a rookie Cleveland would be taking a step back. I would be weird for them to do that after the huge step forward they made this season. Neither Mobley nor Williams will be anywhere near as good of a defensive anchor as Allen for yrs to come & I’m wondering why you think Allen is gonna suddenly not be valuable in 2yrs lol he’s still a young guy, he’ll be good. Mobley is gonna be able to play the 4 for yrs & yrs to come. If Lauri can’t play 3 then bench or trade him, he’s clearly less valuable to Cleveland than Allen
OG is a defensive anchor
Few things.
1) Turn off that caps lock bud. You aren’t getting your argument off any better by screaming it at us lol.
2) You must not have watched a lot of Cavs this year. Cavs had 5th best defense rating in the league. So saying Cavs need “A Def Anchor badly” is ludicrous.
3) Cavs were terrific with their tall ball lineup. Is Markkanen a 3, or even our starting 3 of the future? No. But Mobley was arguably one of the best rookies last year playing PF on an almost playoff team. In fact, the only reason the Cavs crumbled towards the end of the season was because Allen was out and Mobley had to move to the 5. And “Cavs are playing out of position”? According to what authority? Cavs won 22 more games than the previous season and were amazing for a majority of the season in a very tough Eastern conference.
4) Your trade proposal of Allen for OG doesn’t make sense. Trade one of the leagues best centers (proven statistically) for a player who is very good yes but at a position with a plethora of other options in the league and in this years draft. Yes OG would make Cavs much better, but not at the expense of giving up Allen.
5) Mark Williams has more potential than Allen? Where are you getting that information? He can block shots yeah, but can he switch onto anybody in the P&R like Allen? Or have the speed and vertical that he does? Length and height is great but can only get you so far. And “Allen will be gone…”? Really? On what basis? Because this year was incredible for him so not sure how you are making up that opinion.
6) Personally not a fan of some of your potential draftees opinions. Terry is just Isaac Okoro but a little longer and worse shooter. Jovic? That is literally Markkanen but shorter. Cavs would draft him and play him in same position so whats the point? I like Beauchamp and Williams though. Imo I think Dieng might be the guy, but I trust the Cavs with whomever they pick based on how well they have drafted recently.
^yes!
I agree with your 1st 4pts but not so much the last 2. Mark Williams def has potential to be as good or better than Allen. He’s got miles to go to get there but he’s gonna be dominant defensively in the NBA, it just will take a few yrs (same as it did for Allen). Also I’d def say Dalen Terry is a better shooter than Okoro. Okoro is top5 in the league as an athlete & he has an edge in Terry there but Terry is obv extremely athletic too. Okoro is stronger & more physical tho. And Jovic is a much better ballhandler and passer than Lauri. Jovic plays more like a guard while Lauri is more of a prototypical forward. I agree with most of what u said tho
So I don’t think Williams has the potential Allen does for a couple reasons. The first being that I am biased, just going to put that out there loll. But according to the scouting reports, his biggest improvement areas are P&R versatility, passing/playmaking, post scoring, and shooting. Allen is already one of the best centers at switching, something Williams won’t be as effective at based on athleticism and footwork guarding the perimeter. Allen isn’t a great playmaker and Williams could become a solid passer like him sure. But while Williams apparently some showed signs of post scoring, Allen already has one of the high FG% in the paint and on hook shots. Also, Allen is a dominant defender who doesn’t foul (32 mpg but only 1.7 fouls last season). I don’t think Williams could replicate that without Allens speed and footwork to recover or switch in P&Rs.
Yeah Terry might be a better shooter, that was a stretch saying that. I just feel that Terry was able to just catch and shoot in Arizona’s offense, while Okoro had to create more offense than he should have at Auburn. But you are probably right. Jovic has potential don’t get me wrong, but I guess from a Cavs perspective, we need a 3-andD guy on the wing, and I don’t think he offers more of a fit in that role than Markkanen does now. Again, this is l opinion from a bias Cavs fan, but I guess we’ll see tonight. i’m excited!!
I mean both those guys are lacking as post scorers lol. I think Williams will be 1 of the best 5s in the league as far as switching out on guards & holding his own. He’s not bad at all at defending in space & he’ll def get better. Kessler from Auburn might go 1st rd based solely on his defense. To me Williams is an even better overall defender tbh. Definitely not a lock that he develops to the level that Allen has but unless he gets hurt I’d say it’s a good chance.. I’m hyped for tonight too tho, def 1 of my favorite days on the basketball calendar
Makes sense for the Raptors. Makes absolutely no sense for the Cavs.
OG is a really good player and he’d slide right in as their 3, but to get him at the expense of Allen weakens their interior defense. Mobley and Allen have shown they can play together, and putting Love or Markkanen at the 4 weakens their defense and their depth. I don’t think the Cavs get any better by making that deal.
I think it’s a tough deal for either team, but makes sense for both. It’s a win win trade in opinion
@Michael
With Allen, Mobley and Allen at the 5,4,3 they had the 5th best defense in the league.
Correct. Do you think I disagreed with you? Because I’m also in favor of the Cavs keeping Allen
I’d be very surprised if the Cavs move Jarrett Allen.
ABKnows, apparently many wrong things. Hard to read those posts tho. Wastes space. Probably he’s crazy.
Mobley is a forward and will be so for some time, until he gets fat at least. He is doing fine. Cavs D is fine.
