The Kings are becoming “increasingly comfortable” with the idea of hanging onto the No. 4 pick and drafting a prospect there, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports in his latest Inside Pass column. Although Sacramento has entertained the idea of moving back or trading out of the lottery, the team’s asking price is said to be significant.

Charania adds that Kings general manager Monte McNair has had conversations with the Hawks about a possible John Collins trade, but says the No. 4 pick isn’t believed to be part of those discussions.
Here’s more from Charania’s latest round-up of rumors from across the NBA:
- Collins isn’t the only Atlanta big man drawing trade interest. Charania reports that the Timberwolves – who are exploring the market for veteran centers – have discussed Clint Capela with the Hawks.
- Rival executives believe restricted free agent Miles Bridges will command a maximum-salary contract or something close to it, and Charania’s sources believe the Hornets may be hesitant to match an offer sheet worth the max.
- The Pacers continue to seriously consider trade possibilities involving Myles Turner and Malcolm Brogdon, according to Charania, who says the the Hornets have shown interest in Turner and the Wizards and Knicks are interested in Brogdon. Even if they move one or both players, the Pacers may opt to simply retool their “veteran core” rather than engaging in an all-out rebuild, Charania notes.
- After spending the last season-and-a-half with the Hawks, veteran guard Lou Williams isn’t ready to call it a career. “(Williams) is not pursuing retirement, and I’ll be proactive in talking to teams during free agency,” agent Wallace Prather tells Charania.
- It doesn’t appear the Jazz are on the verge of hiring a new head coach. According to Charania, the team is scheduling second interviews with nearly all of their 15 head coaching candidates as the next step in the process. Those 15 candidates are listed right here.
What are the Pacers looking for in return for Brogdon? Assets or just getting off his contract?
Dude over at rotoworld had a mock draft where he traded Kyle kuzma for the kings fourth pick LOL. No wonder they turned off their comments.
Kuzma is kinda good though?
Maybe good enough for the 25th pick but not 4.
I believe the offer you are referring to was #4 for Kuzma and #10. Which makes it a lot better than Kuzma for #4. Just letting you know
Capela would be a great add for T’Wolves.
What’s the most they should trade for him?
Beasley, Naz, and a 2nd.
Not worth sending a 1st round pick for an odd fit.
Yeah that’s not gonna come close to gettin it lol. And it wouldn’t be an odd fit at all
He’d slot perfectly next to Towns. Towns is a great offensive player and he’s gotten better on D but he’s not in Capela’s league. It would allow KAT to spend more time on the perimeter on offense and make the Wolves stouter on D when KAT goes chasing blocks.
Clint won’t come cheap tho. Whats the most you’d trade for him?
ATL may be Beasley’s best team choice. Right now he’s just sub-Edwards.
Kings are now smart, as there is zero shot at them beating the Warriors at any point in the next 5 years. They should draft projects and totally rebuild.
Harrison Barnes, Davion Mitchell plus the #4 overall pick would be the least I’d consider for John Collins… Any 2 of (Naz Reid, Jaden McDaniels & Jarred Vanderbilt) plus a top3 protected 2024 1st is the least I’d take for Clint but I’d rather either keep him or move him to Phoenix for Ayton
Ha ha, no way Collins is worth that.
If Sac says that then we’d just keep him… & I guess a journalist would report that the Hawks & Kings had talks on Collins lol
John Collins is not worth the 4th overall pick. Nevermind 4th, Barnes, and Mitchell.
I think the Minny offer above of Reid, Beasley, and a second for capella makes a lot more sense.
Atlanta has Okangu and needs to move Capella. Atlanta likely wishes they never extended capella
From Atl’s pov the #4 pick isn’t worth giving up Collins… Hawks have no use for Malik Beasley. We got 2 well paid guys at his position that are as good or better at what he does best… lol why do you feel like we need to move Capela? Even if we do trade him obv that means that extending him was the right move bc we get a haul of assets in return as opposed to him leaving as a free agent
You’d potentially get at least as good or better player, at lower contract. That alone would be worth it for Hawks.
What guy could we draft at 4 that would be as good or better than Collins?
The least you’d consider, that’s outrageous dude. What’s the most you’d want, Fox & Domas also, hahah.
A #4 in a weak draft that most pundits seem to think most everyone else is a roleplayer. Not even a surefire starter. Much less Collins.
Most other drafts, maybe I’d agree, fantasizing over a potential all star.
This draft is so meh imo.
I think people will be very surprised at how many teams tank on some level this season.
I’m guessing the Knicks will be very tempted to trade their picks in 2023 because Leon and Thibs need that for job security, but unless the results of that deal are special it will be a monumental mistake that will set us back another decade.
If Dolan brings those two guys in just long enough to screw up the two best draft classes that we, not so coincidentally, had positioned ourselves perfectly to take advantage of we’re just going to be the NBA comic relief forever.
The Knicks should go all in on the rebuild now unless they can get a legit star or two right now. Adding a couple of pieces will do nothing but ruin the pick while probably costing the Dallas pick and creating a average team at best.
If everyone is doing the same thing then maybe you do just go for it this year and move next years picks but unless you’re picking up DM and AD or something like that those picks are just too valuable to move.
If the Knicks moved Randle, Mitch, RJ, Cam and Fournier for some picks this year and drafted some of the high end, developmental role players available maybe we do end up with Wemby next year and then have a team stocked with so much talent the stars are begging in to be the final piece.
On the other hand I expect Ainge to purge and tank to rebuild the team in his image & I think we’ll see several other teams surprise so you have to stay open to the possibility that those picks next year might combine with the number of tanking teams to make those 2023 picks insanely valuable.
Which teams do you think will be tanking?
I’d be very surprised if Ainge purged to tank. I doubt he’d want to tank at this stage of his career anyway nor would Ryan Smith have the stomach for it. Utah has a marketable superstar in his prime in Mitchell and they’ve been a very successful team the last 5 years. They’ll retool to try to get a better balance and if the offer is right they may consider even moving Gobert but that’s it.
I do believe Victor Wembanyama is going to be great but to trade away a winning team that’s is really only one piece away for a shot in the lottery?
Kings have no assets to offer for John Collins
Barnes is 30 yrs old
Salary matching?
Expiring Barnes contract that could be valuable at deadline, Holmes and ’23 1st rounder. That’s worth it for JC.
No it’s definitely not
Since the Jazz isn’t ready to hire a head coach yet, it must be that they are focused on dumping their STUPID team name !!
There will be a “gift exchange” between SAC and GS to help jumpstart the new coach
I hope so, Barnes for Wiggins straight up!
