Mavericks guard Jalen Brunson, Bulls wing Zach LaVine, and Wizards guard Bradley Beal are all considered likely to remain with their respective teams in free agency this offseason, Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report said during an appearance on the Dunc’d On podcast this week.
Brunson has been linked to teams like the Knicks, Pistons, and Pacers over the last few months, but the Mavs have consistently stated both publicly and privately that they want to hang onto the point guard. According to Fischer, people around the league are writing in Brunson’s return to Dallas “in Sharpie” at this point. “Literally, everyone in the league is saying that,” Fischer said.
Fischer has been among the reporters to suggest that LaVine’s return to Chicago is no longer viewed as a sure thing, but he doesn’t believe the All-Star swingman will actually leave the Bulls.
“Even people around him have been saying all along, ‘Yeah, the door’s open, but we don’t think he’s going to leave,'” Fischer said.
Asked if there’s any smoke around the idea of Beal exiting Washington, Fischer said he hasn’t heard anything he’s “giving much weight to.” As Fischer observes, the Wizards guard could accept a lucrative contract offer to remain in D.C. this offseason, knowing that he could request a trade down the road if he eventually decides he wants out.
“The Zach LaVine thing, like I said, I don’t expect him to leave, but people there are at least saying, ‘Yeah, the door’s open for him to go,'” Fischer said. “No one’s even coming close to that type of verbiage when it comes to Brad.”
Here are a few more of the highlights from Fischer’s Dunc’d On appearance:
- Following up on his reporting on OG Anunoby, Fischer reiterated that he believes the Raptors wing wants a greater role on offense. “I do definitely think there’s definitive truth that he wants more opportunity,” Fischer said. “That’s the one thing that’s been repeated across the board from everyone I’ve talked to — from people within his representation, to coaches who’ve worked with him in the past, to general people in the league who would know, let’s say. And that’s the one word that everyone consistently agrees on, that he wants more opportunity, and it doesn’t seem like a clear path to having that in Toronto.”
- The Raptors aren’t going to “sell off” Anunoby, but appear open to the idea of including him in a trade for an impact player, according to Fischer, who once again identifies the Trail Blazers and Jazz as teams with interest. “Portland is definitely targeting OG. He’s definitely said to be someone that (Damian) Lillard wants to pair with,” Fischer said. “Utah has had conversations – I think they’ve even had conversations with Toronto, (though) I don’t want to say there’s been offers made. Right now most of these teams are in super-early conversations and the only team I hear about that’s ready to talk trade right now is (the Hawks).”
- Fischer believes Suns center Deandre Ayton could be the biggest name to change teams in free agency this summer, perhaps in a sign-and-trade. “He wants the max, he doesn’t want to come down from that,” Fischer said of Ayton. “… Detroit gets mentioned a lot. Portland, it seems like he’s another guy that Dame has interest in playing with. Toronto gets mentioned. San Antonio’s been mentioned.”
- Hawks big man John Collins is another player Fischer believes is drawing interest from the Trail Blazers. Fischer adds that the Spurs had serious interest in Collins a year or two ago, but admits he’s not sure whether that’s still the case. “There was someone I talked to today who had just spoken to Atlanta in recent days who said that John Collins is clearly the guy that they are most interested in moving,” Fischer said.
I’d love to see a study or article on max or near max contracts and see how many of them work out. How many teams regret them, how many players sign ask for trades etc. To me LaVine is solid but not near a max player. Ayton would be signed on potential obviously.
Take a look at the guys in the league that are currently playing on max contracts. It works out far more than not
Some of the best contracts in the league are max
NBA.coms #1 valuable contract in the league is Giannis.
I can defend understand why SA & Portland would want John badly. He is perfect for both of those teams. Neither Portland or SA have anything we would want. Tho actually now that i think about it, I’d be pretty intrigued by getting Ant Simons, Greg Brown plus that #7 pick. But it’s hard to see why the Hawks would wanna trade John. He’s exceeded expectations, been a great teammate, he’s still very young, he’s very productive/efficient, he just played thru multiple injuries when we needed him in the play-in & playoffs. It would be weird & wrong for us to trade him
You’re delusional if you think Collins is worth Simons, Brown AND the #7 pick. Simons is going nowhere.
Fischer stated on his own podcast that a source informed him that Atlanta would do a deal with Portland for the #7 pick straight up for Collins.
Portland is not letting it’s future franchise player in Simons go for Collins.
That’s what he’s worth to the Hawks. Obv it’s too much for Portland to give & they shouldn’t be looking to trade Simons. But that’s my point. John is worth to much to the Hawks to consider trading him. A team would have to “overpay” for it to be worthwhile on our end. Hence he won’t/shouldn’t traded… lol obv I’m not gonna take much/any stock in what some unnamed source told some random journalist. But I mean common sense is all I need to tell me that it’s nonsensical to trade John for a rookie. There are numerous obvious glating negatives from us making that type of deal.. What would be the positives?
If Simmons is the future franchise pillar it’s not any kind of future you will like ! He won’t carry a team In a way anywhere comparable to dame which itself had a ceiling ! A contending team with Simons needs him to be a complimentary player similar to van fleet for the raptors title winning team! He was behind Kawhi Lowry and pascal in the pecking order though at times he could score more then some of them in a particular game !
That’s! A lot! Of exclamations!
I really like Collins and i think he can get even better.
He’s been on trade rumours a lot of times, and considering the Hawks owner talked openly about making moves to get better, those rumours started again. He’s the more valuable piece on the roster besides Trae.
There’s been trade rumors surrounding John before & obv they all turned out to be false & a waste of time. Have we learned nothing? Lol yall are falling for it again
It’s not about that. We want to hear what the rumors are. Figure it out: “Hoopsrumors”— You’re on it now.
Quit blaming everyone else for your hangups.
6 players rumors
Please send “unwanted” players to Knicks
Beal would be the Sixth man for Knicks
Bot
Can you imagine Toronto’s defense with gobert…siakam barnes Trent and gobert, man oh man
Yeah but Gobert is a salary clog, they’d have to move both OG and Trent to make the money work, which is too much.
Why would that be too much?
Going after Gobert creats more issues than the problems it solves. You’re giving up to shooters, which is already an off-season priority and your reducing your depth (Raps only ran out 7 to 8 guys during the regular season).
Gobert doesn’t make sense for the Raps financially, especially when you have to give up two under market value contracts to add him.
Raps also need a superstar wing like Lavine to be a true contender
All the Raptors need is a 3pt threat. A legit one. Who has to be guarded 24/7. To open the floor for Siakam and the rest
FVV can’t be that AND be the PG.
Trent just isn’t efficient enough.
Barnes is more valuable than limiting him to beyond the line.
The Era of a true C is over. It’s not needed.
If I were the Jazz brass, I would not let Rudy (or Donovan) get away. Period
Collins to Blazers for the 7th pick is a done deal. Portland is going to pick for the hawks so they don’t fall into the “stiphen” rule and maintain trading future 1st flexibility
Sauces?
No thanks, just the burritos.
How would Portland Acquire Ayton via a sign and trade like who would they want in return, could you sign and trade Ayton for Sivan and trade Nurkic?
If so If I’m Portland max Ayton for sure.
Then go after Victor Oladipo in FA, let’s say 2 years 25mil, then lastly go for broke Josh Hart and this years first round pick for Jerami Grant.
Then just round out the team with guys for cheap on the vets min like LaMarcus Aldridge, Hassan Whiteside, Rodney Hood and Elfrid Payton.
Leaving you with a side something like this:
1. Dame. Simons. Payton
2. Oladipo. McLemore. Johnson
3. Little. Winslow. Hood
4. Grant. Aldridge. Brown Jr
5. Ayton. Whiteside. Eubanks
Dame and VO seem like a great backcourt duo. Dame going playoff mode putting up like 35, VO doing the hard stuff on defence while giving you 15-20. Grant also being a force defensively and give you the same production on offence and Ayton holding down the paint and grabbing the boards. Off the bench LA returns home for his final season, he a Simons run the bench unit well and you have some decent depth behind them.
I’d see this group making the playoffs and then being a side no body wants to face in the first round. Probably a 6th seed or around that and then taking on the team like the Nuggets which would be a great watch.
It’s gonna take a lot more than that for DA. I can assure you Suns aren’t looking to replace Ayton with an older plodding 7 footer.
He’s 23-24. If not Dame, which wouldn’t work unless CP was included, we’re talking Simon, another really good player and a 1st rounder. Suns would send Cam Payne.
Feeling real bad for JC, he took a home team discount last year, he has sacrificed the most for the team, getting too few touches & shots… & the reward for his kindness to ATL is… they wanna get rid of him!
That is why a few players ain’t loyal, ’cause not one team is loyal to them!!!
Next year is the year OG makes the leap and becomes the reincarnation of Kawahi Leonard
Masai knows this, he isn’t getting traded for anything less than an absolute blockbuster bringing Toronto a mega star in return
Why would anyone trade a megastar for Anunoby?— and why would he turn into Kawhi? Drugs much?
Drugs lots
OG has the D skills to match and surpass KL
Can OG turn into the primary scorer? If he does, he might be better than KL
Im not that high tho, it’s a realistic possibility
What’s wrong with drugs? You don’t need to be a hypocrite on this.
I like my brain in a natural state, so there’s no hypocracy. My drug effects are natural lol.
I thought I heard cocaine talking: OG=Kawhi. I don’t think OG’s as sudden or cutting or single-minded or, well, disturbed as Kawhi.
Well if OG wants a bigger role on offense, nobody is stopping him…
