Veteran center Thomas Bryant, who will be an unrestricted free agent this week, is likely to leave the Wizards and sign with a new team, according to Chase Hughes of NBC Sports Washington, who tweets that Bryant is expected to have multiple suitors.
While Hughes’ report doesn’t name any specific teams that will pursue Bryant, a number of clubs around the NBA are believed to be in the market for a backup center, including the Bulls, Raptors, Knicks, and Lakers, among others.
Assuming Bryant departs, the Wizards would likely be in the market for a third center to join Kristaps Porzingis and Daniel Gafford on their depth chart, Hughes notes.
Here are a few more free agency updates from around the NBA:
- Following Miles Bridges‘ arrest on domestic violence charges, the Hornets have put out a press release indicating that they’re aware of the situation. “We are in the process of gathering additional information,” the team said in its statement (Twitter link). “We will have no further comment at this time.”
- In a lengthy look at the free agents the Cavaliers could consider this offseason, Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com cites sources who say the team has been in touch with forward T.J. Warren‘s camp and remains interested in point guard Tyus Jones.
- Confirming that Jazz forward Eric Paschall didn’t receive a qualifying offer to make him a restricted free agent, Tony Jones of The Athletic cites sources who say Paschall is expected to draw interest on the open market as an unrestricted FA.
- Free agent big man Frank Kaminsky appears unlikely to return to the Suns, tweets John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports 98.7. Kaminsky, who was waived by Phoenix in April, missed most of the season due to a stress reaction in his right knee, which required surgery.
- Gambadoro also tweets that he expects the Suns to have interest in unrestricted free agent wing Donte DiVincenzo.
DiVincenzo makes a lot of sense with PHX
I think Donte is a good fit almost anywhere. Do Everything guard that still has lots of potential to improve.
Shooting percentage will likely go up as he gets better, and he’s already hungry and athletic by looking at his rebounding numbers for a guard.
Hope his injuries are behind him and he can take off from here.
Agreed, as I think most of these Nova guys are good fits for all teams. I just particularly like adding him to the Suns roster. I think it’s a really good fit especially if the before the injury version shows up.
Eric Paschall is done. He’s not an NBA player.
He’s been through the process already and it’s only been 3 years.
First, get drafted with high hopes of becoming a rotation player. Season 1, given plenty of chances to prove he’s a rotation player. Season 2 fall out of the rotation and ride the pine. Step 3 get traded to a team with personal connections such as coach familiarity or College connection or in Eric’s case, best friends with star on the team.
Final nail on the coffin.., be released and not offered a contract by the team with the personal connection. Hello Europe !!
Telling stats: Season 3 Utah.., 13 minutes a game and average only 2 rebounds. Also 1-1 assist turnover ratio. Really can’t be trusted WITH the ball, and can’t go GET the ball.
Bryant seems like the perfect candidate for the Knicks to give WAY too much money. Remember Jerome James?
I would love it if we could get Tyus Jones! At the moment he’s probably a little pricey for us but he would fit into our squad perfectly.
Kaminsky for kaminutes!
Fedor writes a good survey of FA possibles. I also read the Cavs considered both the OSU duo, EJ Liddell for the 39 as well as Branham at the 14 but took neither.
Boo.
Fedor is honest enough to admit Ogbaji is not good at anything besides shooting, tho he has a fine body and is a hard effective worker.
Preferring the draftnstash player Khalifa Diop over the sure contributor Liddell is also iffy. The Cavs only have 12 after Ogbaji, and only the MLE for 3 FAs including Sexton. There was room for Lidell!
Cavs once already took a Diop in ’01 and IMO, he casted a big shadow over the Lebron eras affecting how the FO thinks about defensive bigs. Like, no more, even when it was time. Thus, Tristan T.
Speaking of LJ, did drafting local work in ’03?… ’22 was a good time to make a connection.
Anyway, Altman better come up with a good 3rd FA. Tho getting Sexton for $12m and Rubio would win Cleveland for a year. It should not take $10.4mil for half a year of Rubio.
