The Kings have been actively trying to acquire John Collins, but Atlanta isn’t impressed by Sacramento’s latest offer, according to Sam Amick of The Athletic. His sources say the Hawks consider it “underwhelming.”
The reported offer for Collins includes veteran forward Harrison Barnes, but not the No. 4 pick in tonight’s draft. The trade would likely have been completed already if Sacramento was willing to part with that, Amick adds.
Amick also addresses Wednesday night’s report that the Hawks have talked to the Spurs about Dejounte Murray. He states that Atlanta officials believe San Antonio’s current asking price is “exorbitant” and although the teams aren’t close to an agreement, Amick believes it’s a situation to watch.
Also, sources tell Amick that the Hawks’ reported interest in Jazz center Rudy Gobert has been exaggerated. Atlanta still values Clint Capela, who has a good relationship with Trae Young. Financial considerations also point toward keeping Capela, who is owed $61MM over the next three seasons compared to $169MM over four years for Gobert, including a player option for 2025/26.
John Collins value is overrated by Hawks
While Collins is a skilled player, he needs an even more skilled playmaker like Trae Young to get him involved in the offense.
Aside from scoring and rebounds, doesn’t contribute anything else.
Like most every big time scoring forward in basketball history John is better when playing with an elite pg that is able/willing to get him the ball in his fav spots
I really like Collins, maybe most than other users in here, but a “big time scoring forward” sounds like too much and inaccurate
He’s been the 2nd highest scorer on his team every season of his career except his rookie season. Back to back seasons of 20pts/gm. If he didn’t play on a team with so many guards that love to shoot so much (including his pg) he’d be up near 25pts/gm. He can score extremely efficiently from every level. He’s annually among the league leaders in dunks while also being 1 of the best 3pt shooting 4s in the league & 1 of the most efficient post scorers in the league. He’s definitely a big time scoring forward, 1 of the best the league has to offer… I’m glad you like John more than the average. You could stand to like/respect his game a lil more
Siakam has similar PPG per36, while being a little bit less efficient than JC. I will never say that Siakam is a big time scorer. In fact, JC had only 5 games with 25 points or more, that is a big time scorer? Nop. He is a good and efficient scorer.
If JC is a big time scorer, what is Trae? LBJ, KD, Giannis, etc. etc. etc.??? To me those are big time scorers.
I got 44 25+ pt games for John. And if you don’t think 2x All-NBA forward Pascal Siakam is a big time scorer then all I can say is you should watch both him & John Collins a lil closer from now on. Trae, Bron & KD are also big time scorers. If Siakam & Collins aren’t great scorers why do you think they get paid so much lol? Those boys get buckets on a constant basis
Its about labels and their meaning.
to me big time scorers are volume scorers and i consider that the 25ppg+ players are deserving of that label.
Just semantics.
It’s more than semantics from my view. It’s just 2nd nature for certain guys to just out of habit just feel negatively toward these guys. Just a natural predilection to wanna see these guys fail, to not be able to give them credit for their accomplishments, to see their succeses as illegitimate in some way. This is an extremely slight example of it but I mean this particular site is drowning in that type of thinking. It’s obv not just this site, not just basketball fans & definitely not new
Sank, the NBA thinks you’re off your institutional rocker. Nobody wants Collins at homer valuation.
Yet the Hawks are trying hard to trade him. They must have good reasons for that.
Lol yea the all knowing Hawks must have good reasons. Just like when they drafted Shelden Williams #5 overall or when they gave Speedy Claxton a big free agent contract. This franchise routinely gets decisions wrong. You should read up on the Atlanta Hawks
@Sillivan
Hello, you could say the same things about Shaq and Hakeem. Bigs generally need to be fed the ball. Scoring, rebounding, rim protection and defending the paint. Those are things most bigs should do.
4th pick is equal to Murray
9th pick is equal to Collins
Kings don’t need 16th pick because they don’t know much about draft potential
Aside from scoring and rebounds? That is how they decide who wins basketball games.
What else do you expect him to do? Sell popcorn during timeouts?
I really have missed you Sillivan
Bas.Ref. now makes it easy to look at playoff numbers, right in their regular stats boxes. Don’t have to go to game logs.
Harrison Barnes is the better talent IMO. I mean is john Collins ceiling that much higher than what Harrison Barnes is today? Defence matters.
Barnes and the #4 pick is over priced. Not even sure Collins is worth straight up for the #4 pick. hawks will end up keeping him at that price.
Yeah, Barnes and a later lottery pick(s) would be the sweet spot imo. Collins is way too good/young for Barnes straight up but the 4th pick is a little too rich. Value just doesn’t match in either direction
We can only hope
Hawks gonna talk all this talk and then make their pick at 16 and not shake up the roster at all lol, if the Spurs don’t have an exorbitant price on Dejounte they would be fools he is so much more valuable than Collins
I definitely hope you’re right lol
Seems like the crazy trade scene we were all expecting today/tonight is not gonna happen. As usual teams are all being risk averse and trying to steal assets for nothing.
NBA team values their player more than the other team. Shocker
Man as much as I love John I gotta be honest that #4 pick would be mighty enticing, especially if John has made it clear he doesn’t wanna play here. And that should be the only reason we even think about trading him tbh. Unless he’s asked to be traded it’s dumb to trade him. All that being said I’d love to draft Ben Mathurin at 4 if we get that pick. If he was playing on the east coast or was from Europe he’d be in heavy contention for the #1 pick
The Kings aren’t trading the 4th pick for Collins.
Cool with me
I think the value can be evened out if ATL includes #16 in the deal.
I wouldn’t add the 16 pick. Might throw in a 2nd tho
I doubt SAC includes #4 in a trade where the main piece coming back is Collins. But if ATL can pull it off, it would be a coup for them, particularly if they could get some pieces that fit along with the pick.
Vets on high priced long term deals rarely net a pick as high as #4. But few teams would have given up a guy like Halliburton on a RSC even if the deal netted them a guy who’s a better player (like Sabonis). But SAC is in win now mode (by their standards), so who knows? There’s at least no bust potential with Collins.
I agree… we never know when its about the kings… But even with JC is not sure for them getting in the playoffs… maybe they will be happy playing in the playins.
I think the Raps would do OG for #4, they might have to include a future lottery protected first.
#4 & Holmes for OG and 2023 first with protections.
I think, on paper, that’s a good deal for both teams. Assumes SAC really does prefer a young vet vs #4, and TOR really is ready to move on from OG for positional and role purposes if they can get similar value. Deals like this used be done all the time (most deals were this). Today, they’re rare.
Id love to see Minnesota get involved here for John
Beverley + ?
Ant – Beverley
That seems fair. ROFL
Dark horse…
John Collins for Ben Simmons
Ben plays the same game as DeJounte but is bigger and can move into a forward position. Elite level defender, really good play maker and can run the offence in a similar style to GSW with Trae like Curry and Ben like Draymond.
Nets get John Collins who I think would be a great fit with Kyrie and KD. KD moves back to the 3 spot, Collins the 4 and Harris/Curry the 2. They can play small with Collins the 5 and KD the 4 which would be very hard for teams to match up with.
Would be a great deal for both teams
I see this as a no in real life, but i really like this move.
The idea of Draymond/Curry – Ben/Trae made me buy into this, plus we get Simmons in ATL after his meltdown.
I don’t see how this is a good deal for the Hawks, mainly because of the unreliability of Simmons. None of us have any idea if he’s even going to play and if he does, what he’ll look like after a full year off. And would they want to mess with team chemistry for a guy like Simmons, who already has the reputation for not caring? I don’t see it, especially when you add Simmons’ massive contract on top of it. Nets are stuck with Simmons, imo.
Idk I can see Simmons putting up a 16-9-9 kinda stat line, aswell as being the best defender in the league.
I think Trae would thrive playing more off the ball, Hunter would be solid as a third option and another good defender.
Only issue would be chemistry and I think the need for a small ball shooting centre. But chemistry in Atlanta is questionable. Collins is on the outer, Reddish demanded a trade on the quiet, maybe things aren’t perfect in the A.
I like the idea of Dejonte Murray as a backcourt mate to Trae Young. I hope Collins and picks can get it done.
