The Hawks are hoping to have a deal in place involving John Collins before the draft gets underway Thursday night, sources tell Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report (Twitter link).
Trade rumors have been surrounding Collins since Atlanta was ousted from the playoffs, given the 24-year-old power forward’s hefty contract and the team’s desire to overhaul the roster this summer. Collins has been considered among the most likely players to be traded this offseason, with the Kings being prominently mentioned as a possible destination.
Collins was one of the hottest names on the free agent market last year after failing to come to terms with the Hawks on a rookie scale extension. He wound up re-signing with Atlanta for $125MM over five years, and the team has been searching for someone willing to take on that contract.
Collins played an important role for the Hawks as they reached the Eastern Conference Finals in 2021, but his production declined this season as he was limited to 54 games because of injuries. He averaged 16.2 PPG, the lowest scoring mark since his rookie year, while shooting 52.6% from the field and 36.4% from three-point range, both down from last season.
Blazers next deal.
ATL gets: Harrison Barnes, Richaun Holmes, 2022 2nd pick
KINGS get:John Collins
I don’t think Collins ceiling is much higher thencurrent Harrison Barnes. Just sayin’
Five years younger, more athleticism, and I believe he’s a better offensive player than Barnes. I think hes a much better fit with the Kings and he’s not even in his prime.
Barnes and Holmes and a 2nd may be approaching equal value for Collins in a vacuum, but I don’t think it’s enough for Atlanta’s specific needs.
Atlanta already has two 5s that are better than Holmes – does any team need a 3-man depth chart at C these days?
LF!!!!
John Collins for Tobias Harris, Tyrese Maxey, and 2 first round picks
Terrible trade.
Maxey might have more trade value then collins right now and maxey can’t play in the backcourt with trae young
I would say Maxey almost definitely has more value than Collins right now – at least as long as he’s on his rookie deal.
@Theone
If you must drink.. please do so responsibly.
Collins to Portland lift the team floor a little bit more
They just traded for Grant
I wanr my Thunder to offer 12 and Dort for Collins
That’s too much in my opinion
Wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy too much
I like Dort a lot. I wouldn’t give him plus the 12th.
If true, suggest there is no Ayton deal using Collins then.
Kings don’t want Collins. He should really be better than he is on the defensive side. Him and Capela ranked last in on ball defense(for post players). Kings are looking to improv, he doesn’t move the needle.
Tre the worst defender in the league, makes everyone look worse.
How does a team sour so quickly on a player they just extended? Or did they simply match an offer because he was a RFA and didn’t want to lose him for nada?
There a lot of talk about it at the time, when ATL was Not good and Collins had stats. When ATL got better, Collins stayed the same. When ATL got worse, Collins got worse, tho not as much so. He is not high-impact. Now ATL has to trade someone.
Prolly unfair to him but a new team wiil not hurt.
I’d say the latter with a dash of “had a really disappointing season where a lot of their best trade candidates played poorly enough to depress their trade values, leaving Collins as the only role player could conceivably bring back an impact player.”
None of the trades mentioned make any sense. If the Kings want to admit they were wrong and trade him in a package for Sabonis I would do that if I’m the Hawks, but he wouldn’t pair well with Sabonis and teams would score 200 points on the Kings if that’s their plan. Maybe trade him for Myles Turner and see if the Pacers are willing to attach something with that deal. He doesn’t really move the needle for the young teams with cap space, but maybe they’d want him.
So is the Cab Homer hiding AGAIN. Now Collins is not wanted. It’s cause Okongwu is a PF. Try and catch p bro please.
Collins would be a good addition to Sacramento’s roster – probably a dicey fit with Sabonis, but if Sabonis couldn’t fit with a stretch 5 rim protector like Turner then I guess every player will be a dicey fit.
The better question might be – what does Sacramento have to offer that makes sense to ATL? #4 or Sabonis is too much, Fox makes no sense in ATL, and everything else is not enough.
Sabonis and JC on the floor together would be comical defensively.
I’d like to see a Bam & Collins frontcourt – Collins can hit the long-ball, can help Bam with the rebounds and rim protection.
Collins is a Miami-type guy, he played HS hoops there and seems to have a Zo-like streak in him.
Not sure how the HEAT can make the numbers work though e.g. Robinson, Yurt & others
Rudy Gobert…..
John Collins, Clint Capela and 2 first round picks for Rudy and Bogi.
Trae Hueter Hunter Bogi and Rudy
Wright Bogi Johnson Gallo Okungwu
Hawks look awesome
Jazz go younger and please Donovan Mitchell.
Probably need to get a upgrade at SF maybe TJ Warren, OG, Oubre, but I could see them being happy with this deal
The problem is NBA only allows ESPN/ABC to show the Draft so if theirs Blockbuster Trade happening while Draft is going on NBATV has break in and like WOJ is already live. Yes where NFL Draft is next Year KC,MLB Omaha,NHL Montreal much bigger then a NBA like at Barclay or if rotated each year.
Say what?
The Bulls should trade Coby White and the 18th pick in the draft for Collins.
That would setup nicely to sign and trade LaVine to the Lakers for Westbrook’s expiring contract.
Id also work to trade Vucevic to the Kings for the fourth pick and with the pick Id draft Mark Williams.
That would be a nice team:
PG: Westbrook
SG: DeRozen
SF: Pat Williams
PF: Collins
C: Mark Williams
and you’d have Ball, Ayo and Caruso off the bench, a much better core to build around.
You are trippin hard bro lol.
The Lakers would love that. Guessing you hate the Bulls.
Im a Bulls fan, grew up in Chicago in the eighties watching Michael Jordan and the Bulls on WGN back when it was Doug Collins coaching all the way through the Phil Jackson era.
