While Indiana and New York have had conversations about Malcolm Brogdon, some Pacers officials came away from those talks under the impression that the Knicks are exploring a lot of point guard options and Brogdon isn’t necessarily at the top of their wish list, says Ian Begley of SNY.tv.
That doesn’t mean that the Knicks won’t ultimately make a deal for Brogdon, but most recent reports – including those from Begley – have suggested that Jalen Brunson is New York’s preferred target at point guard this summer.
Here’s more on the Knicks:
- Jaden Ivey isn’t the only player on the Knicks’ radar in possible trade-up scenarios, according to Begley, who writes in a separate SNY.tv story that Kentucky’s Shaedon Sharpe also “fans in high places” within the organization. Sharpe appears likely to come off the board in the top 10, though that’s not a lock.
- Fred Katz of The Athletic notes that the Knicks’ cap situation for the 2023 offseason will be impacted by where the NBA’s estimated average salary for 2022/23 ends up, since RJ Barrett‘s cap hold will depend on whether his ’22/23 salary ($10.9MM) is deemed to be below or above the league average. If his salary falls below the league average, his cap hold in 2023 would be $32.7MM; if it’s above the league average, his cap hold next year would be $27.25MM. The issue would be moot if Barrett signs an extension this offseason, since his cap hold for 2023/24 would be replaced by the first-year salary in his new deal.
- In another story for The Athletic, Katz and draft guru Sam Vecenie explore how Thursday night might play out for the Knicks, who control the 11th and 42nd overall picks.
- Zach Braziller of The New York Post also takes a look at the myriad options the Knicks will have available to them on draft night.
Murray, Brunson, Brogdon…. might be wiser to engage the Spurs.
Murray all the way.
No way the Spurs are trading him.
A have a feeling we will trade up and grab Daniels, i would love it
(1981) Fat Lever/Paul Pressey/Nique Wilkins/Worthy/Terry Cummings with Sleepy Floyd, Craig Hodges, Ricky Pierce, Cliff Levingston & Mark Eaton off bench vs (2001) Flip Murray/Caron Butler/Boozer/Amare/Yao with John Salmons, Dunleavy Jr, Tayshaun, Scola & Nene off bench… who wins a 7gm series bw these 2 teams if all 20 guys are 26yrs old & who would be MVP of the series?…
#11 isn’t a great spot in this draft, but maybe not as bad as it seemed a month ago. I don’t see the NYK staying at #11, but a trade up is more likely than it was (still going to be hard though), and I could also see them getting a real asset if they trade down.
I think Memphis would engage 8 and Grahams contract for 11 and Burks…
Nyk has gotta find a way to semi flex their cap in these times
Mem needs to clear some {future cap} badly so this is a great dance partner .
This could be an on the clock option at 8 if thier target is still there
The Knucks will trade down again while the Grizzlies may trade up. What’s wrong with this picture?
IMO If Knicks stay at 11, they take Griffin. Starting to think trading up with Sac will be difficult & the Pistons might use 5 as part of a trade for Ayton. Moving down or out of the draft seem more likely than moving up. If the Knicks indeed trade down or out, I hope it allows them to shed Fournier’s contract. Finally, can Burks, Noel & maybe our 2nd gets us a low 1st rder in the high 20s?…
Stop calling him KENTUCKY’S Shaedon Sharpe. He was as much of a Wildcat as me. We watched about the same number of games in Rupp last season. He is just a high school kid that played dress up on the sidelines of UK games. He’ll likely be a good pro, but he will NEVER be accepted as a Wildcat.
I wonder if he went to classes… If he knows anyone Wildcatian outside of the cocoon.
Knicks are not trading down. So forget that. Only way they would trade down. Is if they got a player, a starter now from a team. Otherwise they are taking best talent.
Knicks need more talent. There will be a few talented players at #11. There are players like Agbaji that can play next yr. There is no way they are trading down. Even Griffin could be there. And Knicks are not passing on him, No Way.
Strong rumors Knicks are doing all they can for pick #4. Should be obvious this is for Ivey. Cause Pistons will not pass on Ivey. Murray is just a better fit in Sacramento. Imo Kings can do better by trading with Knicks.
#11, Grimes, a future #1 pick, two future 2nd rd picks.
But the Knicks did trade down…
