The Mavericks will sign Michigan State’s Marcus Bingham to an Exhibit 10 contract, tweets Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports.
The seven-footer played four years for the Spartans and is an accomplished shot blocker, but didn’t become a full-time starter until his senior season. He averaged 2.2 rejections per game this year, along with 9.3 points and 6.3 rebounds.
An Exhibit 10 deal is a one-year, minimum-salary contract that counts toward a team’s 20-man offseason roster limit, but doesn’t count against the cap unless the player makes the regular season roster. Although it’s not guaranteed, a player on an Exhibit 10 contract can earn a bonus of up to $50K if he’s waived and then joins his team’s G League affiliate.
Bingham, 21, ranked 42nd on ESPN’s list of undrafted players. His contract can become official when the new league year begins next week.
Mavs may well have won the draft (with a lil help from a very useful trade exception). They got a starting 5 (Wood), along with arguably a top3 lead guard in this class (Hardy). Bingham is a big time 2way forward that will definitely get some nba minutes sooner than later too
You said Indy won the draft on an Indy page. Now it’s Dallas… bc of a secondrounder and an exhibit10 guy. You’re a bad trip every other post.
Wood rather than Wendell Moore… Not sure you even like that
This draft class was thin, so I think the Mavs did great to (1) shed players that were not in the rotation and (2) pick up a stretch center with a high ceiling … all while surrendering the pick that ended up being Wendell Moore. I was surprised that the Mavs jumped back in the draft with the intent of grabbing Hardy instead of Liddell.
I’m still very interested in what is going on with Jalen Brunson. I believe the Knicks hiring of his dad, Rick, is a way to “legally tamper” with the player, which makes me think they know something we don’t when it comes to making an effort to clear cap space. I mean, if they don’t sign Brunson, who are they going after? I don’t think Ayton, LaVine or Beal would choose them if offered a max deal … so it sure seems like they are throwing all their eggs in one basket in an effort to snag Brunson.
