JaMychal Green was officially traded to the Thunder by the Nuggets on Thursday, but it’s unlikely the forward will ever suit up for Oklahoma City. General manager Sam Presti says they’ll look to trade Green, Brandon Rahbar of the Daily Thunder tweets. Green, 32, is at the stage of his career where he provides greater value to a contender than a rebuilding team. He’s on an $8.2MM expiring contract for 2022/23.
We have more from the Northwest Division:
- Josh Hart had his $12.96MM contract guaranteed by the Trail Blazers over the weekend. However, it shouldn’t have major implications on Portland’s offseason moves, Bobby Marks of ESPN tweets. The Blazers now have $105MM in guaranteed contracts but they’re over the cap because of the free agent holds on Anfernee Simons and Jusuf Nurkic. They still could have the flexibility to re-sign those two free agents and use the full $10.5MM mid-level exception to pursue outside targets.
- The Timberwolves prioritized rebounding in the draft and addressed that by making moves to select Auburn’s Walker Kessler, Chris Hine of the Star Tribune writes. Kessler was the Naismith National Defensive Player of the Year. They also wound up with Duke wing Wendell Moore late in the first round and Memphis wing Josh Minott and Italian guard Matteo Spagnolo in the second round. President of basketball operations Tim Connelly isn’t expecting too much out of those rookies. “We don’t want to put too much expectations on their ability to contribute right away,” he told The Athletic’s Jon Krawczynski. “When you have a team that had as much success as we did, it’s hard to put that on your shoulders.”
- What might the Jazz do with their taxpayer mid-level exception in free agency? Eric Walden of the Salt Lake Tribune lists 25 potential free agent targets — breaking them down into wings, guards and bigs.
Minnesota def needed to get better defensively & they did. Smart not to put too much pressure on the youngsters but both Kessler & Moore should def get plenty of opportunity to make an impact & join the rotation this season, precisely bc of their defensive ability… another team that low-key did extremely well in the draft, especially defensively, was Minnesota’s div rival OKC. The length that this team is working with is absolutely ridiculous fr. Almost all of their young guys are long & defensively active. It looks obvious that this is gonna be yet another tanking season for OKC. But if they’re able to get Slic Wembanyama next summer they could be looking at the scariest roster since LA drafted Worthy in 82…. Shai, Giddey, Mann, Jalen Williams, Ousmane Dieng, Lu Dort, Kenrich, Bazley, Poku, Chet & Roby. That’s a lot of young talent & A LOT of length. Once this team gains experience & gets a lil older & stronger they’re gonna have a perennial top3 defense
SGA, Ja Green and 2 first round picks for Sign and trade Zion Williamson and Jaxson Hayes
Pelicans line up SGA CJ Ingram Nance/Herb and Big V. SGA and CJ would be such an entertaining backcourt and long term wise build around Shai and Ingram. Not to mention you get a bunch of first rounders
OKC give you some firsts but have a core of Giddey Zion and Chet. Talk about potential superstars not to mention you’ll still have a bunch of firsts
No
Thunder got their bigs in the draft and don’t need a fat dude made of glass that has no desire to play in small market.
SGA is still not going anywhere, no matter how much you want him to. Thunder have one exciting young core that will be competing very soon.
“Competing very soon”. Competing for another top 3 pick you mean. They are very very far away, and the front office is going to make sure they tank for a while longer.
SGA is so unbelievably overrated. Someone has to put up numbers on bad teams.
Soooooo overrated that I have read 5000 different trade scenarios for him on here? Why would all of these other posters want a guy who is so overrated and are willing to part with significant pieces to get him?
Please enlighten all of us….you must know more than everyone.
SGA has more value than Zion, tf you talking about Garg?
Stop it. Lol
“What might the Jazz do with their taxpayer mid-level exception in free agency? ”
THEY COULD PUT IT TOWARDS A DECENT TEAM NAME !!
Jamychal Green should be sought after by multiple teams, as there are only really a handful of options like him in FA.
I imagine Wendell Moore is a big reason Minnesota got rid of Okogie. They’ve needed wing help for a long while. If he can make shots, that should make him super valuable, even if he never gains athleticism to finish above the rim
