T.J. Warren has only appeared in four games over the past two seasons but he could still bring value to the Pacers, even if he’s not on the team next season, according to Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer. Warren will be an unrestricted free agent this summer but Indiana could sign-and-trade him to a team coveting his services. Warren has averaged 15.5 PPG in his career.
We have more on the Pacers:
- Pacers assistant Bryce Taylor has been named an assistant coach for EWE Baskets Oldenburg in Germany, Scott Agness of Fieldhouse Files reports. Taylor, 35, played in Germany and Italy before retiring prior to this past season.
- Projected lottery pick Shaedon Sharpe worked out for the Pacers on Monday and feels he could be a difference-maker if they use the No. 6 selection on him, James Boyd of the Indianapolis Star tweets. “I know that (the Pacers are) a great organization, love to develop their players,” he said. “I feel like I could come in and be that go-to guy.”
- Duke’s Trevor Keels will work out for the team on Tuesday, Boyd adds in another tweet. Keels is a candidate for the Pacers’ second-round selection at No. 31. That’s exactly where the Blue Devils’ wing is rated on ESPN’s Best Available list. As previously reported, center Kai Sotto is also visiting on Tuesday.
TJ Warren is one of the best available 3 and D wings. Could be a real difference maker on a contender, and probably won’t break the bank considering his injury history. Would love him on the Knicks.
If they are trying to S&T him that means some bout to be fired GM is giving him more than the MLE.
I like TJs game, would be a calculated risk for the Biannual Exception or Vet Min on a prove it year but 2 years away from the game due to injury and still no clear picture on his health…
A sign-and-trade wouldn’t necessary mean a contract higher than the mid-level. Being able to sign-and-trade for Warren at a mid-level price rather than signing him outright could allow a team to use its MLE on another player. (That said, I agree that after two lost seasons, Warren’s price shouldn’t be very high.)
Wishful thinking on the Pacers part. I can’t imagine any team would willfully hard cap themselves in a sign-and-trade to get Warren. I think even a full MLE is generous.
I’m not bullish on Warren’s earning potential this summer, but creating a hard cap isn’t really a big deal for the teams that don’t expect to be taxpayers (if they plan to use more than the taxpayer portion of the MLE, they’ll be hard-capping themselves anyway).
Tj warren is 100 percent an offense first player, not 3 and d. That said he has the size to switch so a team like the mavs or Celtics could be an ideal fit.
Agree theo, not a 3&D. His one good year for IND overrates him, bc they intentionally lacked forwards that year in a scheme that did not work.
And the resulting reliance on Warren was one reason.
A good one-year deal for Warrren is not unreasonable, at the MLE, if that’s within the rules… might be Popovich or Weaver inquiring, SAS DET DAL
