The Spurs are expected to waive forward Danilo Gallinari now that their blockbuster trade with the Hawks is official, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN tweets.
Gallinari is part of the Dejounte Murray deal. His partial guarantee was increased in order to complete the trade.
His $21.45MM salary next season had only been partially guaranteed for $5MM. His partial guarantee is believed to have been increased by an additional $5-6MM or so to match Murray’s incoming salary. San Antonio will get some cap relief by waiving him before his full salary becomes guaranteed.
Gallinari, 33, is expected to draw interest from contenders in both conferences. The Bulls, Celtics, and Heat are among the teams that have already been linked to him, and Gallinari has interest in those clubs, according to Dave McMenamin of ESPN, who tweets that the forward will be seeking mid-level type money.
Gallinari is a 38.1% career 3-point shooter and has averaged double digits in points since his second NBA season. He averaged 11.7 PPG and 4.7 RPG in 25.3 MPG over 66 regular season games (18 starts) last season.
Kinda shocked, you’d think they’d find use of that salary/expiring at the deadline . Especially when tanking
Gallo and Poetl for Gordon Hayward and a 1st would be an easy net
Gallo Poetl Richardson for Westbrook and unprotected 1st (*credit poster Sebch)
Agree. They should keep Gallinari until the deadline to waive him or until they need to free the roster spot.
They could indeed use him im a salary dump deal, where they might for example pick up one or more bad contracts for him. They are tanking anyway…
I like the two ideas also:
1/ Gallo and Poetl for Gordon Hayward and a 1st
2/ Gallo Poetl Richardson for Westbrook and unprotected 1st (*credit poster Sebch)
Do both of trades work without guaranteeing Gallo any extra money?
Gurney Gallinari.
Buyer beware. Even though someone will get him for the minimum, dude’s always hurt.
That being said, I’ve always loved his game. Go-to guy when you need a bucket. Can shoot the three or drive to the hole and always good about drawing the foul.
Seems very odd that we didn’t hear about any other teams interested in Murray, especially for such a relatively low asking price. A proven 2 way guard with Murray’s skillset and potential for 3 late 1sts is a steal, not to mention the extremely team friendly contract.
3 firsts and a swap isn’t bad. They weren’t interested in the salary filler as we see now so it be tough I imagine getting more pick value for Murray than what they did
I don’t necessarily disagree there. All I’m saying is you’d think it was more than just ATL interested in him for that return
Great piece for the Warriors bench. Upgrade from Bejlica
No surprise. Gallo’s contract is contaminated (un-keep-able, unless you want to pay him the full 21 mm salary in the contract). Over 10 mm of it is still non-guaranteed. The only team that would trade for him, to keep him, would be one that’s willing to pay him the full 21 mm on the contract.
are the spurs able to stretch the guaranteed amount or is that going to be counted in full as dead cap space for 2022-2023?
They could stretch it, but why would they? I suspect they’ll take the hit this year.
They could stretch it. I doubt they will unless they need it for a specific move.
Gallinari just got an extra 6 million. Lol
Fimd it ridiculous that they give players guaranteed money for salary matching purposes and then waive them.
Atlanta could have parted with Lou Williams or K Knox II instead of that guarantee. Those are two expiring contracts with some trade value. I would have pushed for that if I were Spurs.
Those are expired contracts (not expiring contracts), and can’t be used as they don’t exist.
Knox is already a FA.
