The Spurs are listening to offers for Dejounte Murray, and the “most significant” overtures have come from the Hawks, according to Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report.
Sources tell Fischer that San Antonio and Atlanta have been discussing a deal since the trade deadline that would send Murray to the Hawks in exchange for a package centered around John Collins. Fischer adds that the Spurs want a “Jrue Holiday-like” return for the All-Star guard, so Atlanta would have to include a few more assets.
The Hawks are seeking a strong ball-handler and defender to team with Trae Young in their backcourt, and Murray qualifies on both counts. Murray, who finished second in the Most Improved Player voting, averaged 21.1 points, 8.3 rebounds and 9.2 assists this season while leading the league in steals at 2.0 per game.
Fischer speculates that Murray’s contract status is likely behind the Spurs’ willingness to consider a trade. His four-year, $64MM deal will expire in 2024, and he’s expected to be in line for a max contract after that. San Antonio could still be rebuilding by then and may not want to make such a large investment in Murray.
Fischer points out that the Knicks and Wizards both need point guards, so there may be plenty of options for the Spurs to consider. Sources also tell Bleacher Report that the Timberwolves have tested the market to see what they can get in return for D’Angelo Russell.
Dejounte Murray has the highest trade value now.
Trade Players when they have The Highest Trade Value
Pointing out the obvious. Well done.
What in the hell are the SASpurs doing … they traded away Derrick White to Boston at mid-season and now want to trade Murray. Have they gone mad ??? White was the 2nd best player on the SASpurs and Murray is our best player … is Pop going to gut the SASpurs and then retire ???
Rebuild.
They got draft picks from White and will get draft picks from Murray.
Like Warriors, Spurs are on rebuild mode.
Spurs get John Collins, Okongwu and 16
Hawks get Murrey and Zach Collins
Hawks save money
That’s not info.
Warriors are rebuilding Sillivan? You mean the World Champion Warriors who next year will be anchored by Curry, Thompson, Green and Wiggins. Good gracious are your comments horrible!
Not sure why the Spurs would deal Murray, even in a rebuild. Dude is an All-Star who is only 25. Two years from now he’ll still be fairly young for a major contributor to a rebuilt Spurs club.
That’s a God Awful deal for Murray. Trust me if Murray getting traded then DeAndre Hunter gonna be involved. He’s the Claw 2.0..
They would want D. Hunter, J Collins. Okongu pick 16, & 2 fut 1sts plus swaps in b.t years… control Atl picks for next 4 yrs.
And even then, Well that’s quite a pkg… Spurs might sat yes to get claw 2.0.
Spurs will fill it w Filler. Ofc to make $ work but SAS got cap space.
Hunter, Collins & Okongwu + Pick 16 + 2x fut 1sts for Dejountae Murray is quite a haul
Klaw 2.0 in Hunter w pop.pop…
Lol, I’m not a Hawks fan and I love Dejounte Murray but the price you just put out there is laughable
Maybe there’s not a match, but the one you proposed is way too much for the Hawks to accept
Hawks are not trying to save money. They are trying to win. Trae and Okongwu are untouchable. John Collins will be moved in an attempt to upgrade roster. Capela only still in ATL cuz he is Trae’s boy. He will get moved as well.
Any deal would have to involve DeAndre Hunter if there moving Murray.
Plus Atl going to be good so trading for late 1sts from.Atl makes no sense at all.
Hunter can be a 3, usually plays there, or 4. Hawks want a defender between Trae & Hunter. No conflict.
ATL’s future is not clear. Lets be real.
Jeez, no it wouldn’t. But the second part is correct; the Spurs will at the very least require a higher pick this year.
Agreed. Okongwu is the reason the Hawks want to move collins. He is staying put in my opinion. Hunter, Huerter or both along with Collins and pick or picks being moved would be the play.
Why would San Antonio even talk about this?
Only thing TWolves can get for Russell is a dozen nba basketballs, and some of them will say SPALDING on them.
And, MAYBE a used ball rack.
I wonder how much Dolan had to pay Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report to slip the Knicks in as a potential destination for Murray.
Boston should acquire Murray if they can.
They can send 2-3 first round picks and can use their Evan Fournier TPE.
They can do it straight just with the Spurs or add the hawks if they want to dump Collins, but all parties will have to come to an agreement but it’s doable.
No it isn’t price would be too high a couple or even a first first especially mid to late ones would be a crazy fast hang up
As much as I would hate this bc I love Murray, it should be further examined that the spurs,
who were beset by Kawhis untimely exit, trading for demar instead of brandon Ingram, and
pop bungling draft position chasing the wins record, barter late first round picks into hauls unlike anything else done before. So resourceful
Was who I’d have traded for pre Harden/Simmons deal. But i would build around him and Keldon unless they get a stupid offer for him or they have no intention of paying him max next contract.
What is the point of getting a star like JC if you are giving up the very best player you had in many years?!?!?
Really confusing!
Dear Knicks – this is the PG you trade for. Please offer the 11, picks next year and throw in 2025 while you’re at it. Toss back Fournier, IQ, Toppin.
Looking at 2023/24: Murray, Barrett, Reddish, Randle. Need one or two more starters (if Reddish hits the bench). McBride, Grimes, Sims off the bench. Fill out the rest as everyone else is gone (Rose, Burks, Noel, Gibson…). Should have some salary to get a top FA, and ‘then’ sign Murray to a max and hit the tax.
If I am Atlanta, I am looking to deal for Dejaunte Murray and I am going to use Trae Young as the bait. A team is never going to win big with that big of a defensive liability on the floor.
Yeah, imagine a team with an undersized scoring-first point guard winning the championship…practically impossible to picture! This is by far the dumbest take on a post filled with bad takes.
A website filled with bad takes smh
Curry has 3 inches of wingspan and 20 pounds on Young, and he seems like a much more invested defender (especially lately). It seems a bit unfair to compare the two, I think Curry is as close to Jrue Holiday defensively (stupid comparison) as he is to Young (equally stupid comparison)
Why wouldn’t the Hawks want him? But why don’t the Spurs?
21.3 ppg 8.3 rpg 9.2 apg and the best in the league 2.o spg can’t be replaced by Collins, Hunter and filler.
What would a Morant for Murray trade look like?
Which team would have to add more?
Ja got the age to fit SAS rebuild more, but also seems to be more injury prone. Murray has elite D and similar offense to Ja (neither great 3pt shooters).
If Spurs are Trading D Murray, it would have to incl D Hunter & J Collins & Okongwu + Pick 16 & 2 fut 1sts + 2swaps…
Atl projects to compete for East & Picks will be late 1sts.. Unless Trae gets hurt..
But Hawks do this deal, for 1x reason. $$$
Dm on team friendly deal for 2x more yrs. THEY could use his Def & playmaking so Trae goes off ball. I love this Move for Both Teams.
It’s Alot to give up, but Hawks can do it & get another star.
They still have Huerter, Bogdanovic, Capela, Jalen Johnson.
Atl also is in play for Ayton & trading for Murray helps Financials to make that happen.
Ayton, Trae, Dejountae …. scary big 3…
Even.without Ayton, Atl makes this move & heading into right direction.
Spurs POV, you aren’t going to get a better return.
Murray is going to be an old 26 & timelines don’t work. Getting Klaw 2.0 with DeAndre Hunter.. getting John Collins, & Okongwu..
Plus pick #16 they could take swings at..
#9, #16, #20, #25
They could Take Duren or M Williams to get Elite Rim protection to pair w Poetl
K Johnson has shown alot..
You could take N Jovic..
A Ty Ty Washington…
And later on in draft take a PG in K Chandler who only downside is he is just 6ft tall.
Remember cp3? Not saying that will happen..
But also D Terry could be in play as facilatator.facilitator..
J Williams…
Spurs can’t pass on that return…
DeAndre Hunter w popovich should scare folks..
Atl may say NO w Hunter but he will want & get max $ & Atl needs to shed that salary..
Also Z Collins could go to Atl in a deal.
The deal works bc SAS cap space..
Thoughts?
Yea ATL isn’t doing that. Plus it doesn’t look like it is even financially possible using the NBA trade machine, at least not for this calendar year. Factoring in what you could get for the players you mentioned that is like 6 1st + 2 swaps.
I could possibly see something like: JC, huerter, hunter/okungwu, a 1st, and a swap for Murray & McD/Rich (for financials).
