The Bulls are among the teams that have shown interest in Hawks big man John Collins, sources tell Matt Moore of Action Network. Moore also confirms that Boston and Sacramento are two of the other clubs that have registered some level of interest in Collins, as Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report said earlier today.
Chicago has been linked to a handful of frontcourt players so far this offseason, most notably Rudy Gobert. Moore writes that the Bulls remain in the mix for Gobert, but cautions that the Jazz‘s asking price will be “steep” and says any trade discussions involving the three-time Defensive Player of the Year could drag out, given Danny Ainge‘s reputation as a tough negotiator.
According to Moore, if Gobert is traded, the Bulls are probably the most likely landing spot, with the Timberwolves looming as a dark horse, but there’s no guarantee a deal will be made.
Here are a few more trade notes and rumors from Moore:
- Moore reports that the Lakers have “circled back” to Pacers sharpshooter Buddy Hield after not trading for him a year ago. The Lakers have a clearer path to making an offer for Hield that doesn’t include Russell Westbrook‘s unwanted contract this summer than they did at the trade deadline, given that his salary declines from $23MM in 2021/22 to $21.2MM in ’22/23.
- The Sixers are probably unlikely to find a taker for Tobias Harris, given the size of his contract, but Moore suggests the Kings are one team to watch on that front.
- The Cavaliers aren’t looking to trade former lottery pick Isaac Okoro after drafting Ochai Agbaji, says Moore.
- Moore suggests that the Raptors‘ asking price for OG Anunoby when the Trail Blazers pursued him around the time of the draft was believed to be the No. 7 pick, Josh Hart or Nassir Little, and a future first-round pick. Now that the draft has passed, Moore is skeptical that Anunoby will be on the move this summer.
If Lakers acquire Hield that doesn’t include Russell Westbrook‘s unwanted contract, Lakers luxury tax increases $20 million +.
Okoro is still cheap. No need to move him yet but my guess is this year will determine whom among Okoro, Osman or even Markkanen will be back next year.
When Indiana took Mathurin, that made it seem like they’d potentially move Hield. I would imagine they would look for a 3 and D piece at the 3/4 spots though, and the Lakers dont have that themselves
I totally see the fit with Gobert and the Bulls, but at the same time it’s also plausible that Gobert is the NBAs worst contract in a year or two. If the Jazz are valuing Gobert as a superstar it almost certainly would not be a good move for the Bulls
Only if he gets hurt will his contract come anywhere near what you’re thinking. He’s the best defensive player of his era, I think all teams value him extremely highly
I agree he’s singularly impactful on the defensive end, but pre-injuries the Bulls had a top 10 defense with an average at best defensive center because their point of attack defense was very good. Would you rather trade major assets to acquire a great interior defender who never shoots outside of 10 feet and makes $45mil, or keep your trade assets, keep Vuc, and sign a good rotational interior defender at the MLE?
I’d def rather go get Gobert. They’re a good team rn (if Zach returns & Zo comes back with no lingering issues). But theyre not winning anything with that team. Rudy puts them on another level. Just bc they were good defensively last season doesn’t mean that they shouldn’t try to get better. Being great defensively is what could make them title contenders
Zo ain’t coming back the same. This lack of info sounds suspiciously like what they did with DRose, his return was always imminent, until it wasn’t.
His injury is worse than reported.
If the Bulls could sign Bamba for less than half of what Gobert makes, they’d still have the depth on their roster or the ability to use some of that talent in a trade to fill some needs. You’d still rather have Gobert? I like Gobert too but that contract is so bad.
He’s a bad contract NOW. Why else would the Jazz think about moving him? Who in the right mind would trade a player who’s the best defender on the planet? Well, it’s because he hasn’t won a single thing. First round exit, second round exit, complaining about “touches” etc. 45 million for that? I’d rather have Clint capella.
I don’t know that the Jazz really are that hyped on moving Gobert but there’s a few reasons why the Jazz would move him if the offer is right and it actually makes the team better.
If he himself wants out because he’s tired of not having much help on D would be one reason.
The coach that brought the best out him is gone and Hardy wants to go in a different direction.
There is actual friction between him and Mitchell.
Gobert probably talks about touches when confronted about why he does not score more. Like most centers, he’s probably right.
Pass the ball to the high % shooter!
This is a good time to move on from Jazz tho, or some change… Theyre under new management now. Gobert should apply that pressure.
I can’t imagine what Chicago could possibly trade for John that would interest the Hawks. We already have a better version of Pat Williams in Dre Hunter. I do like Coby but I also like Sky Mays/Sharife Cooper & they’re already on the team. I’d rather see what they got than go get Coby
As a Bulls fan, I honestly don’t know either. They don’t seem like they match up very well.
I wouldn’t call hunter a better version of pwill considering pwill 2 years younger right now than hunter was as a rookie.
If you’re the Raptors maybe an OG Anunoby to the Grizzlies for Dillion Brooks + makes sense assuming Brooks agrees to an extension. Possibly Brooks Williams and a 1st.
Think Anunoby would be a better fit alongside Morant and Bane plus he’s 2 years younger than Brooks and under more team control.
Neither player seems “happy” in Anunoby and Brooks. So there may be a swap there between contenders.
Hell no. Raps aren’t ever doing that deal. OG is as valuable an asset that’s on the market outside of Gobert.
And why do people keep saying OG isn’t happy? That was a rumor started in Portland to try to pry him away from Toronto. That’s it lol
Dillon seems very happy in Memphis & if I’m them I def wouldn’t trade him. If you’re talking about adding Ziaire plus a 1st lol I mean that’s ridiculous
Matt Moore/Action is a nice source, but they said the Cavs are NOT looking to deal Okoro. HR said that too, but with a “n’t”, not a “NOT”.
It’s too hard to notice your negatives!
NOT the first time I had to reread carefully after being sent researching by mistake.
