After agreeing to a deal for Jerami Grant, the Trail Blazers are now targeting Raptors forward OG Anunoby, tweets Chris Hayes of Yahoo Sports. Haynes adds that Portland is willing to part with the No. 7 pick in Thursday’s draft in a potential trade.
A report emerged late last month that Anunoby had grown frustrated with his role in Toronto’s offense, as much of his ball-handling duties had been taken over by Rookie of the Year Scottie Barnes.
However, there was no indication that Anunoby had asked to be traded, and subsequent reports have suggested the Raptors are unlikely to move him unless the return is substantial.
The 24-year-old is coming off a career-best scoring season, putting up 17.1 PPG in 48 games. He also averaged a career high in assists with 2.6 per game and took more shots (14.5) and three-pointers (6.6) than in any previous season while playing his usual strong, versatile defense.
Anunoby would be another solid building block for the Trail Blazers, who are hoping for a quick turnaround following an injury-plagued 27-55 season. He has two more two more guaranteed years left on his contract, plus a $19.9MM player option for 2024/25.
I like what Portland is doing, but I felt OG was above market then looked at Eric Gordon deal. Not sure how this helps Toronto unless they have another move in mind. I thought OG w good 2 way player so curious how Toronto will improve.
@Omar
It could be the 7th pick +. Maybe Toronto has a bullseye on a player in the draft that might be obtainable at 7th overall.
If there’s any team that has a definite logjam at the forward spot, it’s definitely the RAPTORS.
Though the RAPTORS should give up OG, only if they can get a decent backup facilitating PG in return, FVV seems to be aging fast, injuries slowly piling-up.
Yeah they should trade a 24 year old 3 and D starter on a team friendly deal for a backup PG. Smart.
So far so good for the blazers.
Getting OG means either sign and trade Nurkic or giving up Josh Hart.
Nurkic leaving would make sense then.
It would also mean OG plays SF and Grant moves to PF full time. Two good defenders but you’ll need a big rebounding centre like Kanter, Drummond or Whiteside in FA. Nurkic could be that guy getting boards but I think Raptors would want him and value him more.
Still holding out hope they get Victor Oladipo in FA. Think him and dame would be an amazing duo.
1. Dame. Simons
2. Oladipo. McLemore. Johnson
3. OG. Little. Winslow
4. Grant
5. Drummond
It doesn’t have to mean any of those things, they still have bledsoes non guaranteed to use to match salaries.
Yeah well I suppose that’s the other alternative but it would be Bledsloes expiring deal and the 7th pick in the draft.
I’d rather give away Hart or Nurkic
I’d like Hart to return. Now you have formidable defense with Hart, OG, and Grant. Create a different identity.
If Drummond is your startning center – you are giving a million pionts in the paint every game
If Whiteside is your starting or backup center – you are giving up 2 million points in the paint every game. Those are pretty terrible options he mentioned. Last time Whiteside was here he was the worst center in basketball.
Drummund-Whiteside combo with Dame and CJ at guard wouldve been historic
Blazers blazing. Anunoby may have asked out. Probably his friends have.
I don’t see what they have to trade to Raptors for him?
A deal makes sense for both sides. Portland needs OG. Toronto needs depth and a way to open up a starting lineup spot for Scottie Barnes.
I believe this is an equitable trade (and a perfect salary match):
POR gets: OG Anunoby
TOR gets: Josh Hart, Nassir Little, Portland 1st round (#7 pick)
Raptors would want Nurkic.
#7, Hart, Nurkic
Ew. As a Raptors fan, I can ensure you we do NOT want Nurkic. The Blazers don’t have enough to get this deal done, unless we’re talking about multiple 1st round picks, and probably a 3rd team involved.
Nurkic is a free agent.
Um, we already have a starting spot for Scottie?? He started all last season, as did OG..OG isn’t going anywhere guys, unless a team is paying a fair price (a LOT)
When everybody is healthy, I think you are looking at PG Van Vleet, SG Trent, SF Barnes, PF Siakam, C Achiuwa/Birch/FA
keep hart trade simons. Dont keep simons . He is too short to play sg. It’s why blazers dumped Mc Collum.
It’s amazing how little the American audience still knows about the Raptors. They love hoops up there. I have watched a lot of Raptors. 1. Scottie Barnes already starts. 2. OG is a 14 PER player on a team friendly deal with upside. For context, PJ Tucker has had one season at 13.3. OJ is already the absolute best version of PJ Tucker, young and getting a bit better each season.
Blazers don’t have enough to get this done unless Masai and Bobby really love someone in draft at #7
It does not matter, the nationality of the Raptors. Nobody does not follow them because a border is crossed. It’s the same market. Sounds like a The Athletic post! People are aware OGA is desirable, that does not make him untradable. Does he start?— that’s the problem.
Fair enough
It’s not all Americans. There are just a lot of clowns from east/west coast on here who think good players should be gifted to their teams
I think Raptors trade OG tonight, but to SAC not Portland. #4, Holmes for OG.
