Speaking today to reporters, Warriors president of basketball operations Bob Myers said that money won’t be the deciding factor as the team weighs whether to use or trade the No. 28 overall pick, as Kendra Andrews of ESPN relays (via Twitter).
“It’ll be if it makes sense,” Myers said of a possible trade.
Besides the financial aspect, the Warriors will have to consider whether there’s a player they like at No. 28 enough to add another rookie to a young core that already includes several recent lottery picks.
According to Sean Deveney of Heavy.com, the Celtics, Knicks, and Magic are among the teams that have expressed interest in the No. 28 pick.
Here’s more on the Warriors:
- Asked about the Warriors’ key free agents, starting with Kevon Looney and Gary Payton II, Myers said, “Our hope and our goal is to bring all of those guys back” (Twitter link via Mark Medina of NBA.com). However, he added that Golden State will be mindful of the marketplace, suggesting there may be a price point the team won’t exceed. Myers also spoke at length about the ownership’s willingness to pay an ever-growing tax bill as long as the Warriors remain a title contender (video link via Anthony Slater of The Athletic).
- According to Myers, the Warriors would like to extend Andrew Wiggins‘ and Jordan Poole‘s contracts this offseason, but those talks may not be on the front burner to start the summer, since the deadline for a Poole extension isn’t until October, and Wiggins could be extended during the season (Twitter link via Andrews).
- The Warriors aren’t giving head coach Steve Kerr a mandate to play youngsters James Wiseman, Jonathan Kuminga, and Moses Moody a certain amount next season. “If there are guys playing better, we’ll play those guys,” Myers said (Twitter link via Medina).
- Wiseman hasn’t experienced any recent setbacks and the plan remains for him to play in either the California Classic or Las Vegas Summer League in July, Myers said today (Twitter link via Medina). That plan was reported earlier this month.
- Neither Myers nor Kerr is certain whether or not Andre Iguodala will retire this summer, tweets Slater. “It’s a really big decision for him,” Kerr said. “If he decides to come back, we’d be thrilled.”
When he was on the bench, Iguodala did more coaching than Kerr this season. I think he’s a perfect guy to follow in the path of Udonis Haslem: play 5-10 games a regular season, just to keep fresh for the playoffs while being a great influence to the rest of the team. He’s in great shape other than joints, so this schedule is something he could manage until he’s like 42.
Would love to see him here in some capacity for the second act of the dynasty!
He might end up being the Udonis Haslem of the warriors.
A’sfaninintheUk is the Udonis Haslem of the NBA. They get a paycheck and are totally worthless. I really don’t understand what A’sfan is thinking. What has done that anybody can get excited about? A’sfan is excited about a minor league team. A’sfan is excited about a team that hasn’t been relevant in 40years. The Warriors want to win; the A’s are only concerned with earning a paycheck.
A’sfan is the Udonis Haslem of the Warriors. Nobody cares. He is a has been. A’sfan is probably like 95 and suffering from senile dementia and lives in Russia. You can’t take him seriously. He is waiting out his dying years.
He will be a coach next year. His body is done.

The Warriors didn’t sign any of the players you said they had to sign to win a championship. Will you admit you were wrong.
It means those lottery picks have to work hard to earn the playing time

Thanks captain obvious
I don’t think you understand basketball. Your ability to contribute to winning a game is what they care about. Nothing else matters.
If as indicated Orlando is interested in the Warriors pick at 28, then it would seem reasonable for the Warriors to trade down into one of Orlando’s 2nd round picks at 32 or 35 and be able to save money and have a guy on a 2-way contract. That is unless there is one guy available that they especially like at 28 and who they are afraid won’t still be there at 32 or 35.
Other words Bob is saying he is waiting for a good offer before trading a draft pick away. Right now they are low balling him on the pick. Could be traded during the draft.
Do the Warriors really need to draft anybody? Trading the pick makes sense. They got enough young guys to develop. Trading the the pick to find a better player makes sense.
GSW traded a lot for Iguodala way back when, more than they paid for their starters that won titles. But Igs did start in the famous death lineup… was maybe captain of it.
Wiseman has to get in on summerleague action.
Um…Huh? What are talking about. You really believe that the roster they had before they signed Iguodala would have won a Championship. What drugs are you doing? They were nowhere close to winning anything. You are being stupid.
Seriously dude, the Warriors didn’t give up anything to get Iguodala. Why do you guys like say stupid things.
Iguodala originally came to the dubs in a 3 team trade in 2013. The warriors traded away a bunch of picks and players in that deal. I believe that’s what he’s saying, it’s not that hard to understand.
Btw Iguodala’s transactions section is pretty crazy. Dude’s been in two 3 team trades and a 4 team trade lol.
Iggy was a Free Agent. It was a sign and trade. Utah was the primary partner. It was more accounting tricks. I think they off loaded Biendrins. That was not a great loss.
Go to bed. They gave up two firsts and two seconds for Iguodala, unprotected, and GSW was not good then.
It was not “accounting tricks”.
Three players went, IDK their salaries or value, does not matter. That it may have been an S&T, does not matter.
GSW gave up what they gave up, big equity.
The guys that started in 2015 were just Bogut and regular draft picks.
Are you saying Bas.Ref. is lying?— or can’t you read?

So, did you look up the Warriors lineup in 2015 and what they accomplished?
What is ypur point. I already said they won a title. With four picks, Bogut, and a special lineup player they gave up 2 promising firsts for.
This is sad. You forget the rest of the lineup. It wasn’t just Bogut. It also included Barnes, Curry, Thompson, and Green. Do any of those players ring a bell. In those days, their contracts were quite small. They had to give up draft picks to get rid of Biendrins. Jefferson had been in the league awhile.
I have been saying that. You are a dense drunk old man. Youre not understanding simple things. Getting Igudala was not “accounting tricks”.
Good thing those picks were all trash I guess since he has helped win 4 titles. Worth it!
?? More specific please
They also got rid of Jefferson, who was pretty old. And Brandon Rush was a alcoholic. It was accounting tricks.
When you want to say “stupid”, think. Something is wrong. And the wrong thing is ypur ignorance. Ignorance about the team you root for.
Look up Iguodala if you must.
How do you get that I said the roster they had before was going to win a title?
Why post four times?— Are you done yet? Maybe THINK before posting at all. We a not in a bar having a convo, old man, like in olden days.
Seriously, you can’t find find anybody who would say that they players the Warriors gave up to get Iggy would have won them a championship. Biendrins was weak. Jefferson was old. Rush was a lush. They didn’t give up much. It took a few years before they had any substantial draft picks. But, they have more than made up for that.
You’re just trolloing at this point. The players given up are irrelevant.
I’d love to see the Warriors trade their 1st and still pick up a Christian Braun or a Michael Foster. They don’t need to reach on a bunch of players. Having a couple players develop overseas would not be a bad outcome.
Still yapping I see. How are they going to pick up Braun if they trade the pick that might get him.
He is good but on GSW, maybe a reach for the roster at first.
Why send a player overseas when when the GL team is so good at developing players?
Nothing SFgiants74 says even qualifies him as a homer.
I didn’t say that will happen. They have only one player succeed at Santa Cruz. They still have the rights to Mannion and Jessup. Having Foster spend time in Australia wouldn’t be a bad idea.
You are a crappy homer. GSW is famous for developing players in their system.
