Otto Porter Jr.‘s two-year contract with the Raptors, which includes a player option for 2023/24, will have a total value of $12.4MM, reports Josh Lewenberg of TSN.ca (Twitter link).
Because Porter’s first-year salary will only be about $6MM, Toronto isn’t using more than the taxpayer portion ($6.48MM) of the mid-level exception to complete his deal and won’t be hard-capped as a result of the signing.
However, if the Raptors want to give second-round pick Christian Koloko a starting salary higher than the minimum and/or a deal longer than two years, they would need to use a portion of the MLE, meaning they’ll exceed the taxpayer MLE limit and would have a hard cap of $156.98MM for the 2022/23 league year.
Here’s more from around the Atlantic:
- In assessing the Knicks‘ offseason moves to date, Zach Braziller of The New York Post suggests that the club could still use one more wing after trading Alec Burks to Detroit. Here’s our list of the free agent wings who are still on the board.
- Ethan Fuller of BasketballNews.com takes a look at how Malcolm Brogdon will fit in with the Celtics and what the acquisition means for the team going forward.
- Sixers big man Paul Reed won’t be on the team’s Las Vegas Summer League roster, but he’s suiting up for the 76ers at the Salt Lake City Summer League this week and will look to show he deserves a regular spot in the team’s rotation next season. “I mean it’s an opportunity for me to get better, honestly,” Reed said, per Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer. “I feel like going into next season, I have a chance to show them what I’ve been working on, so I can prove my value. That’s kind of my mindset. I just want to get better.”
Celtics coming off a Finals run. And adding Brogdon, Gallinari. Without giving up any rotation players. I’d say makes them Deep. Excellent moves. Celtics are not messing around. Good for them.
I tottally agree, and Brown – Tatum should get better too. I sitll have the Bucks as the fav in the East but Boston should finish 1-3# easily
Knicks are not going forward. Till they move Randle. The Watch has begun.
Or they need a really good PG or playmaker to play with Randle
Just signed Brunson to (hopefully) be that. But I agree with Al. Knicks ain’t going anywhere with Randle.
The way I saw him act with Kemba. I don’t see this working in our favor. Knicks don’t need drama.
I will be shocked if they pull off a deal to get rid of Randle. If they do, we won’t be getting anything in return. Probably have to give up a future 1st. I’d still do it for cap relief and a new team culture.
I think they can. But he needs another All Star. Brunson ain’t that player. He is good, but he ain’t an all star. I think they should go all in on KD.
And offer what? What does “all in” mean?
Brunson and Barrett are the only two players the Nets would want, so then what, you got KD, Randle and Mitchell Robinson? What does that get you?
So far
Knicks did better than Lakers
Irving max is $245 million
If Lakers don’t cut big check, Irving gets mad
Not a Knicks fan at all, but I’d actually love to see you guys trade RJ Barrett and Evan Fouriner (salary matching) plus a bunch of first round picks for Donovan Mitchell.
Then you’ve got a big 3 of Brunson Spida and Randle. In which case I think Randle would be really important. All three guys are good at handling the rock and facilitating but no one stands out as a 10 assists per game guy. Brunson and Randle can space the floor for Donovan and give him room to attack. Randle can kick out to two really good guards. Those two would be your stars. Arguably a top 5 PF and a top 5 SG.
You’d have Mitchell Robinson all secured up, DRose locked up coming off the bench. Then It would be a case of build around what you have.
Would be cool if you could bring Melo back and play him off the bench with DRose. That second unit would get buckets.
I really want Donovan in NY but im not sure about that offer. They should send at least 3 1st and 2 swaps or 4 picks, and yet im not sure if others team can outbid them. Maybe Utah takes that offer if Donovan pushes to go to NY.
I think RJ, Fouriner, 3 firsts and 2 swaps would be the offer that gets it done.
Not sure who would be willing to give up more picks and also willing to give up a good young player such as RJ.
Brunson and Donovan seems like a horrible idea for a backcourt, imo. Undersized and historically bad defense.
What Brogdon means for the Celtics is that the back up point guard will get a lot of playing time.
Brogdon is the backup point guard.
And they still have White who is now the 3rd string pg. Celtics are deep.
Brogdon and Smart is good depth. Both play both ways. Celtics just got better and deeper.
FA si far ……….
Jalen Brunson – 104 million 4/yrs
Isaiah Hartenstein – 16 million 2/yrs
Mitchell Robinson – 60 million 4/yrs
All signed in NBA free agency. I’d say Knicks are doing pretty good in FA. We need a trade next.
Where do you expect the Knicks to finish the RS, considering all the moves in the Eastern Conference?
East is deep no doubt. I still see another move coming. I’m also waiting to see what they do with Randle.
We are better. With Toppin starting. I see 7-8 seed right now. With another move. A little better.
Yes, I have them in the 7-9# range, It will depend on if Randle can repeat his all-nba lvl, wich i really doubt but can happen, or another move.
They can win with Randle. Doom & gloom is not warranted. That’s a benefit of getting Brunson, leadership— Making the parts look together.
Not that getting to #4 again is likely. That actually threw things off a bit, then going without the PG, whoever’s fault.
I don’t think we can wait on him any longer.
His feelings are hurt. He’s better off in a small market. Have to move him imo. Not giving up another yr lol.
Trade not happening unless there’s a “significant upgrade”. Which, rarely happens. Going to send him home?
There already is. “Obi1”
Imo, all 3 are overpays. Robinson deal is the only one I could see having positive value.
He would have been a good fit for Celtics but he doesn’t fit Stevens agenda so they went with Gallinari
Don’t sleep on Gallinari. He can still score. And he will get plenty of good looks with second team. Always been a good shooter.
“El Gallo” ……
I know, I ain’t sleeping. He definitely better scorer. I think Otto just a better fit defensively. With Porter they wouldn’t have a bad D lineup
What’s the deal with Paul Reed? Not on the roster why? Bas.Ref. has him under contract.
He’s still under contract with the Sixers — just not playing Vegas Summer League.
It just said he wasn’t playing Vegas Summer League. He is under contract.
Update !!!!!!
It said he was playing, or at least “suiting up” and “showing them”. Did the Sixers not want him doing that? He does have things he could work on.
Rivers did not play him much, despite his good PER, defense and 4 steals per 36′. Maybe Rivers does not want him in games & he’s on the outs.
Not playing in Vegas Summer League. He is playing in Salt Lake Summer League.
Knicks will finish in the lottery again this year. Brunson and Hartenstein is not enough to bring them up to play in level. Leon Rose was the wrong choice to run the team. They shouldve tried to pry Bobby Webster or Dan Tolzman from the Raps or any one of Mike Zarren (Celtics), Milt Newton (Bucks), Elton Brand (76ers) or Dennis Lindsay (Jazz). Any of them wouldve been better.
Also not Knicks related but on the Raptors really like the little core they have put together.
FVV Flynn TrentJr OG Barnes Porter Siakim Young Boucher Achiwura Koloko
Probably a little but to many bigs and need a better back up guard but still keeping largely with that 6-6/6-9 sorta size, can switch a lot, very versatile, can stretch the floor and has players that can attack the rim. Good head coach, good GM, but they will probably hit that wall soon and then need a big trade or get extremely lucky in the draft.
I’d rather have Ayton than Mitchell. People are sleeping on Ayton. He’s got plenty of upside still. He gave up his offense to fit in with Suns. He will be a top Center.
