The Celtics may consider adding swingman Justin Jackson to their training camp roster this fall, Adam Himmelsbach of the Boston Globe writes. Boston thought about signing Jackson in March, but the team ultimately signed Nik Stauskas instead.
Jackson played summer league with the Celtics this month. In his final game, he recorded 16 points and five assists, shooting 6-of-15 from the floor.
“Ever since [December], me and my agent have kind of stayed in touch with the Celtics,” Jackson said. “Kind of built that relationship. Came out here to join and kind of play a little bit of basketball, so it worked out.”
Here are some other notes from the Eastern Conference:
- Chris Forsberg of NBC Sports Boston examines which Celtics players improved their stock the most during summer league. The player Forsberg identifies as the biggest beneficiary of this month’s action is JD Davison, who was drafted No. 53 overall last month and showed serious offensive potential in Las Vegas.
- Roderick Boone of the Charlotte Observer explores whether the Hornets are truly any closer to making the playoffs than last season. Charlotte re-signed Cody Martin, but the team still doesn’t have any resolution on restricted free agent Miles Bridges, who is currently facing felony domestic violence charges.
- The Magic finished summer league with three straight losses, but plan to keep looking forward, Terry Gilliam Jr. of the Orlando Sentinel writes. Orlando has a young core of Franz Wagner, Cole Anthony, Jalen Suggs, No. 1 pick Paolo Banchero, Wendell Carter Jr. and others to continue developing. The team finished with the NBA’s second-worst record at 22-60 last season.
Of course they signed Stauskas over jackson
How do you “kind of” play basketball?
Probably the result of “kind of” finishing high school.
Or kind of being overly critical of some poor dude for no reason.
I was just having fun
I had read 19 year old Juhann Begarin had an awful year playing ball in Paris & true he had problems finishing his drives during Summer League but otherwise I really liked his composure, his three point shooting, his strength and speed. I hope Celtics give him a shot sometime ahead.
JD Davidson’s three point shooting and low turnovers happily surprised me too after poor stats for his one year at Alabama.
The two of them, Juhann & JD really sped up the play and made the games exciting to watch.
President Stevens may have some tough but quality choices to make over the next year or so with an influx of talent.
Go Celtics!
I think Justin Jackson makes a lot of sense for the Celtics as a wing option that also has some versatility, and can shoot it. That’s a position where their depth is super depleted where It once was extremely deep, and i think he also just fits with the guys they have
Terry Gilliam Jr a sportswriter? Had to look it up and no, he’s not a Python scion.
A center taller ( young scoring prospect) than 6’10 is what they need
What about Wagner in Orlando
no doubt. just a “slight” oversight.
Kornet is a good floor spacing big, and has played well in his sample sizes, especially around switchable defenders. He is depth, but they already have Horford, Grant Williams, and Rob Williams. They dont need more bigs
