Although some reports have mentioned the Warriors as a possible suitor for Nets star Kevin Durant, Golden State doesn’t appear to have made “serious overtures” for the two-time Finals MVP, according to Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report. While Fischer hints that the two teams have at least talked, he says little traction has been generated.
The Heat, meanwhile, continue to focus on acquiring either Durant or Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell before moving on to other business. Multiple sources with knowledge of the situation tell Fischer that Miami is prioritizing Durant over Mitchell.
Here’s more from Fischer:
- Knicks personnel have projected confidence that they’ll be able to acquire Mitchell without including RJ Barrett in their offer, according to Fischer, who hears from sources that the Jazz may not be eager to give Barrett a lucrative long-term extension anyway.
- While both Barrett and Tyler Herro are considered candidates for maximum-salary rookie scale extensions, Fischer says NBA executives believe the Heat guard is a better bet than the Knicks forward to sign a new deal this offseason (rather than in 2023 free agency). “They always seem to pay their guys,” one assistant GM said of the Heat.
- According to Fischer, league personnel continue to classify Suns forwards Jae Crowder and Dario Saric as potential trade candidates. Both players are on expiring contracts for a Phoenix club whose team salary is now well above the tax line.
RJ Barrett should not be holding up any trade proposal
It’s NY. You know they always overrate the value of their players, and then regret it later. Look at their history with this and what they could’ve had for certain young players they had versus what they eventually got for them after they held onto them too long.
I’m not a knicks fan but for the nba sake I want them to acquire Mitchell for grimes and picks and then run spida-Brunson-Barrett, would be the most interesting knicks team since 1962
But playin team at best
Curious to see which trade Pat Riley pulls off.
With the Nets, they have to realize that you’re never in a good position when a plyer has requested a trade, and one of the teams he wants to go to is a Pat Riley run team. It’s like going to a game of poker against a world class poker player that is allowed to see your hand the whole way.
These 2 players have little value to Nets but good value to their own teams
Herro
Cam Johnson
Warriors make sense for KD.
Obviously he knows the system, players, coaches etc and they know they can win with him.
The deal would have to involve Wiggins for salary matching. But they also have a bunch of young players (Wiseman, Poole, Moody, Kuminga, Baldwin Jr) and they have picks they could offer away.
The interesting part would be determining the value of James Wiseman, former number 2 pick and looks like he’s got tremendous talent but often injured and still developing. GSW could also use Poole which would come at an obvious risk. We all know how good he is but at the same time he’s due a new contract and dealing him for someone like KD would not only be an upgrade but would save yourself millions and millions in the future.
A package of KD and Seth for Wiggins, Wiseman, Poole and 3 firsts would be interesting.
Curry brothers link up, and KD returns. GSW would basically be assured another 2 rings atleast. Whereas on the other side of the deal, Brooklyn can build with Simmons, Wiggins, Poole and Wiseman plus the picks. You’d then definitely deal away Kyrie Irving for more picks and young players. It would definitely be a backwards step for the Nets but a soft landing knowing you’ve got a lot of good young talent and picks and still likely a playoff side. To think you had KD and Kyrie and Simmons and you got swept, it wouldn’t actually be that bad
Wiggins and Simmons can’t be on the same team
True my bad
Wiseman has been a giant disappointed any conversation would have to include Kuminga Poole and several picks. Wiseman isn’t looked a favorably to anyone outside GSW nation.
@Simmons>Russ’
It may make sense for KD (like him getting paid more by staying there instead of leaving the dynasty would have) but it doesn’t make sense for GSW.
Claiming adding 34 yo KD and losing Wiggins, Poole, and Wiseman = “another 2 rings at least” doesn’t make sense, since that makes 4 out of 5 starters injury prone.
MIA has no chance at KD. BKN is going to talk to them for show, as KD did mention them. If and when BKN gets motivated to actually move KD, the price tag will come down, but not to a point where a package of Herro and a short stack of picks is going to be sufficient. DM might be a possibility for them, but it would need to involve a bunch of teams.
MIA can get Mitchell with Hero and picks. It just depends how far the NYK are willing to go.
It could be enough, but MIA does not have its own 2025 pick, so after 2023, the second conveyed pick couldn’t vest until 2027 at the earliest. 2023 is too soon for MIA to collapse, even in theory, so there’s little upside to their pick package until 2027 (even if the NYK sent just 1 of its own picks in 2023 or 2025 unprotected or top 4 protected, it’s a superior package). Aside from Herro, MIA also doesn’t have RSC guys, the next best thing to 1st round picks. It would have to be essentially Herro plus a modest haul of low beta picks for DM. It depends how motivated UTH is.
I believe the jazz will blink first and Mitchell will end up a knick at a cost much lower than the jazz’s ridiculous asking price.
Of course it will be less. It’s tough to imagine Mitchell being motivated to go back to Utah at this point.
It’s fairly obvious you don’t know the history of trader Danny Ainge.
Why would they blink? I don’t think they really want to trade Mitchell but they’re willing to at least listen if they get the right offer.
I’m not really sure the Knicks have the assets to get a trade done without including Barrett or Toppin. All the picks the Knicks have are protected.
Mitchell’s under contract for three more years. If the Knicks don’t meet their terms just run the team out there as is. Conley, Mitchell, Bogdanoviç, Vanderbilt and Whiteside are still a lottery team.
Take a page out of OKC’s playbook. After 40-50 games shut Mitchell down, trade Conley, Bogie and Clarkson and tank the rest of the season, then see what happens next off season.
Used to be a huge KD fan, but now Warriors are much better off not acquiring KD. IF Warriors do acquire KD, it would be for these reasons:
1. Luxury Tax, Luxury Tax!
Paying KD would be cheaper than paying Wiggins, Poole, and trio rookie extensions.
2. Lack of confidence in Wiseman and
Desire to sell high with Wiggins and Poole.
3. Lacob wanting to sell team in the next few yrs when the value is at peak, or possibly next TV contract coming up.
KD is old and a quitter. Let’s not put all eggs in one basket. Warriors cant risk KD injury which he is proned to do. No more KD!!!
If you think Joe Lacob is selling the GSW I have a bridge to sell you. Listen to the Point Forward podcast that he was on.
I get the incentive to sell in the next few years, but the franchise isn’t likely to depreciate in value henceforth. Look at how embarrassing the Knicks have been for so long and they’re still one of the most valuable teams in sports, period.
It’s Toronto or bust for Nets/KD.
Pelicans and Toronto are the only ones capable of meeting Marks needs today
New Orleans would need Durant’s blessing, which could be difficult
I could see Toronto pulling the punch but Nets look like overwhelming favorites to be his team to start 2023
* I wonder how Durant views this lack of teams trying to climb over each other to get him, he solely started this game so I’m guessing he had an idea of how it would play out once the ball was rolling ….This can’t be it, for someone that seems a little sensitive I wonder how he’s handling it all internally
Wondering the same. Quietest public trade demand by a star in the free agent era, and its happening in NYC. Granted it’s the Nets, not the Knicks. Still, there’s not even enough out there for the media to make stuff up. Not from KD, not from his business manager /agent, not from the team.
Marks appears to be in Morey mode (I want everything you got), which tells me he doesn’t really want to seriously engage right now. KD might be seeing that and decided to back off for now and just enjoy the summer. Soon enough (Fall?), we’ll find out the seriousness of KD’s demand, and what his expectations are of BKN and potential suitors. If they aren’t met, he’ll say something to someone.
It would make the most sense for the GSW to let other teams work themselves out of the equation first… NYK going for Mitchell removes one player with the assets to make a move.
LAL scooping in for Kyrie means that the Nets have given up on keeping KD.
Right now I doubt anyone has offered much for Ben Simmons, so that removes Miami if they want Bam.
Raptors don’t want to give up Barnes.
Suns don’t want to give up Bridges, and the Nets don’t want Ayton on a max.
All that bodes well for GSW, they have the young players, no picks needed to make this trade. And if you’re like “no we don’t need him we just won” okay well if you don’t want to add a Top-5 player to your team you need to put down the crack pipe – especially when it’s not gutting your entire team to do so.
It’s like trading for Moses Malone.
Kuminga is not moving the needle for a KD. What is his ceiling? Iggy? At best? GSW fans are overrating his stock.
Hershel Walker comes to mind as well if we are going outta sport
Set Dallas up for a decade
Duh! No one (at least in their right mind) would prioritise Mitchell over KD… seriously no one!!!
