Heat center Bam Adebayo is hoping for a career path similar to teammate Udonis Haslem‘s, writes Anthony Chiang of The Miami Herald. Speaking today at his youth basketball camp, Adebayo said he not only wants to play his entire career in Miami, he hopes to be a community leader in South Florida just as Haslem has been.
“If I could, I would,” Adebayo said of the prospect of playing for just one team. “Just to have that opportunity to be around this community for my whole career. A lot of the community has seen me grown up. Going from a random 14th draft pick to being a cornerstone in this organization and to become something bigger. It’s just one of those things that’s dope when people grow with you.”
That decision isn’t entirely in Adebayo’s hands, and teams have inquired about him as Miami seeks to add another star on the trade market. The Nets would be interested in Adebayo as part of a Kevin Durant deal, but multiple sources told Chiang that Miami hasn’t included him in any of its offers and isn’t willing to part with him to get Durant.
“It’s the faith they got in me,” Adebayo said. “I feel like they know what they have. You get a guy who’s hard-nosed, who’s going to get it out the mud, who’s not going to quit on his teammates. It’s just mutual respect. I feel like a lot of teams want me, but it’s just a respect thing. Also, it’s (team president) Pat (Riley) believing in me, it’s (owner) Micky (Arison) believing in me, it’s (general manager) Andy (Elisburg) believing in me that we can make that next step to bring this city another championship.”
There’s more from Miami:
- Adebayo may push for a larger role in the offense when training camp opens in September, suggests Ira Winderman of The Sun-Sentinel. While the Heat could benefit from more consistent scoring out of their starting center, Winderman notes that Jimmy Butler will still carry a large share of the offense and plenty of shots have to be allocated for the team’s three-point specialists.
- In a separate story, Winderman wonders whether the tampering penalty assessed against the Heat last year — loss of a second-round draft pick — will also be directed at the Sixers, who are currently under investigation, and the Knicks, who may be investigated as well.
- The Heat front office should remain patient unless there’s an immediate chance to add a star such as Durant or Donovan Mitchell, contends Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald. Jackson explains that means holding onto first-round draft picks and not extending Tyler Herro‘s contract this offseason.
The only person hurt by the forfeited pick is the 59th and 60th players.
Being able to negotiate with any team hardly seems like a huge detriment compared to likely being forced into a two way contract no matter what
Value of 2nd pick, if sold is, what 2mil traded to the owners? Can’t recall. But what a small penalty vs the reward.
The Sixers really don’t have too many picks available over the next few years, so losing a 2nd for no reason would actually hurt them a little more than it would another team.
Sixers get the most favorable 2nd rounder from Hawks/Hornets/Nets so they should be just fine with 1 2nd rounder lol
For teams competing for a title second round picks don’t really hold much value at all. Not many second round players while on their rookie contracts actually even crack the rotation especially not on the big teams. A lot of those guys are either complete long shots or very raw athletes which need major development.
Not all ofcourse you do have the rare Nikola Jokic or Isiah Thomas and so on and so on.
For the Sixers I mean our likely window of winning/competing for a title is maybe 3 years at best after that Harden and Tucker will likely be gone and hopefully Embiid will still be healthy otherwise we have next to nothing besides Maxey.
Still holding out hope the Heat trade Lowry, Robinson and whatever else for Kyrie.
Think under the guidance of Pat Riley and Eric Spol, Jimmy Butler and the rest of that group Kyrie could actually turn his attention back to playing basketball.
I mean when he wasn’t in the news for saying or doing dumb stuff or covid related stuff he was actually playing really good ball.
Think he would be a great fit with that group.
Kyrie Oladipo Herro Butler Bam etc etc
Butler managed to basically out the team on his back last season towards the end and was insane. Imagine if he had the help of Kyrie Irving who could just go out and drop 40 every couple of games. Lowry struggled to reach drop double didgets and his playmaking wasn’t utilised. Yes he offered decent defence but I mean you can pay guys like Denis Schroder the vets minimum to do what he was doing
No on kyrie, and no on Schroder
Either that way or possibly 3 team it if Brooklyn ain’t keen.
Brooklyn: DAngelo Russell and Wendell Moore.
TWolves: Kyle Lowry
Heat: Kyrie Irving
Dlo return to Brooklyn.
They do the KD to Boston trade
KD for Jaylen Brown, Derrick White, Grant Williams and a first.
Brooklyn line up Russell Brown Simmons Williams Claxton with loads of depth.
Miami gets a superstar to partner Jimmy.
They still desperately need a PF.
But beside that Kyrie Herro Oladipo Butler Bam that’s a solid core for now
Brooklyn get some veteran leadership to go and really try push for a playoff run. Lowry Ant Anderson KAT Gobert. They probably lack shooters and that might hurt them. Like their depth tho, Rivers Forbes Prince McDaniels Reid.
Just talking about the first part b/c there are a lot of assumptions there. Good for Minnesota, useful for Brooklyn, no for the Heat.
Definitely no on Schroder, but for Kyrie, if he was the guy he was his first 2 years in the NBA when he had the chance to be the next Chris Paul, probably. Now, I’ve been saying no since the Heat were linked to him in 2017. Also leaves them with too many people that need the ball in their hands. Also a big downgrade playmaking wise and defensively. Maybe in consideration if they move Herro somewhere in some sort of deal for a versatile wing, and him guaranteeing the only way he doesnt play/show up is if he is injured, but without that, no
I’m only willing to trade Lowry b/c of Oladipo, and only for specific types of players, same with Duncan. They can just stick with what they have and sign a 4
As I’ve said for so long, Bam is the Zo, the UD, the Wade of this organization, the heartbeat of this city. He isnt going anywhere
Always thought Bam can be more a scorer. Playing the 4 he should be able to post more. For easy baskets really.
Don’t get why posting down low. Is becoming a lost art. Scoring is scoring. Especially when it is a high % shot. It also puts pressure on team D. And gets them to commit fouls. It is still the best way to go after a player. To get him in foul trouble.
Any big or 4 that can post. Can also open up the perimeter for easy looks. Only takes a pass out. Posting and pick and roll. Are oldest plays in NBA. Yet posting and toasting just not cool anymore. I guess
Posting is good for players that are good at it/have mismatches in half court situations to get easier shots, mostly in the playoffs. Otherwise, it’s an extremely low efficiency possession.
