JULY 6: Gobert has officially been traded from Utah to Minnesota, the Timberwolves confirmed today in a press release.
JULY 1: The Jazz are trading three-time Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert to the Timberwolves, sources tell ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski (Twitter link).
According to Wojnarowski (all Twitter links), the Jazz will receive Malik Beasley, Patrick Beverley, Jarred Vanderbilt, Leandro Bolmaro, 2022 first-round pick Walker Kessler, and four future first-rounders in the deal.
Minnesota will send Utah unprotected first-round picks in 2023, 2025, and 2027, along with a top-five protected 2029 first-round pick and the right to swap first-rounders in 2026, reports Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic (Twitter link).
A major shake-up had been expected in Utah this spring and Gobert has been mentioned in trade rumors since the Jazz were eliminated from the postseason. On top of that, the Wolves were rumored to be in the market for a rim-protecting center to play alongside Karl-Anthony Towns, and had been linked to Gobert.
Still, the fact that the two division rivals were able to agree to terms on this blockbuster deal comes as a major surprise. It represents a huge home-run swing by new Timberwolves president of basketball operations Tim Connelly and incoming owners Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez, and is the first significant roster move made by Jazz CEO Danny Ainge.
The move will cost the Timberwolves a good amount of their depth, but will create a loaded starting five. Towns and Gobert figure to be joined by point guard D’Angelo Russell, rising star Anthony Edwards, and one of Kyle Anderson, Taurean Prince, or Jaden McDaniels.
The Wolves will have Gobert under contract for several years — he’s owed a guaranteed $123MM over the next three seasons and has a $46.7MM player option for 2025/26.
Minnesota currently projects to be about $9.5MM below this season’s luxury tax line, with 11 players on their books, tweets ESPN’s Bobby Marks.
Meanwhile, of the players headed to Utah in this trade, only Kessler will have guaranteed money on his contract beyond 2022/23. Beverley is on an expiring contract, while Beasley, Vanderbilt, and Bolmaro all have team options for ’23/24.
The Jazz are currently $11MM below this year’s tax line for 13 players and should have significant cap flexibility in future seasons, says Marks.
Having also acquired a first-round pick from Brooklyn this week in exchange for Royce O’Neale, the Jazz are now loaded with draft assets and plan to retool their roster around Donovan Mitchell going forward, per Wojnarowski (Twitter link). Tony Jones of The Athletic confirms (via Twitter) that the team has no plans to trade Mitchell.
There could be an opportunity for the Jazz to turn around and immediately flip some of the picks they’ve accumulated for an impact player who will complement Mitchell.
For instance, John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports 98.7 reports (via Twitter) that Utah has some interest in exploring a sign-and-trade deal for Suns restricted free agent center Deandre Ayton, and Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer confirms (via Twitter) that the Wolves, Jazz, and Suns had discussed some three-team scenarios.
After seeing multiple unprotected first-round picks change hands this week in deals involving Gobert and Dejounte Murray, it’s safe to say the Nets’ asking price for Kevin Durant will be astronomical. Brooklyn is said to be seeking a “historical haul” for the former MVP.
KAT + Rudy Gobert
Twin Towers
We know how that turned out..
A bunch of different ways?
Well, injuries derailed Sampson’s career, but Hakeem did quite well for himself and I believe both are inducted in Springfield, MA.
There’s been a bunch of different “Twin Towers” in nba history with wildly varying levels of success. Tyson Chandler/Eddy Curry & David Robinson/Tim Duncan are both Twin Towers
Spurs did alright with Twin Towers.
My favorite player is Jordan McLaughlin
Nowell is good.
Wolves keep both
Massive overpay by minn but gotta go all in….
likely to be protected for all draft picks
only the 4th one.
Right
Wolves Overpaid offer for Gobert
Now
Are the Wolves better than Mavs, Grizzlies and Suns?
Suns are likely to dump luxury tax.
They need to get 3pt shooter now at the 2
Why? They got one at the 4
Ant is a pretty great 3pt shooter
35.7% from three in the reg, over 40% in the playoff series last season. With Gobert at the 5, they should really improve!
HUH?
This is a HUGE haul for Gobert … and I’m probably on the bullish end of Rudy
How can anyone even afford KD after this haul for Gobert? Although I like minnesota taking a massive swing, at worst it’s gonna be a very interesting, league pass favorite
Utah can afford him now
Basically the Pelicans. Zion and 5-6 first. Maybe Zion and Ingram and the Lakers first. ehhh
No the one was so many picks because no great young players. Add Anthony Edwards and Utah would have sent a couple picks to Minn
This offseason must be the more insane offseason that i can recall…
Feels like I’ve been saying that every offseason for the last couple of offseasons. Welcome to the new normal.
It’s crazy.
They all been pretty spicy since Bron went to Miami. The summer when mozgov got his bag was a crazy one too. The cap exploded that yr. The summer when PG went to OKC was wild too
Interesting
Loss of Beverley defensively at guard hurts, but they didnt lose much from what they added, and Beasley is redundant on the roster, so theh essentially got Hobert w/o giving up too much, and as I said yesterday, they should be 1 of several teams fighting in that mid seed range
I feel like Utah is going to make a couple of more moves, possibly involving Conley and Clarkson, after having moved O’neal, and lost House, and Hernangomez
Esit: o there are more assets going back lol. Makes more sense. That being said, I mentioned previously Minnesota needs 1 more wing shooter, or improvement from within, and I think they’ve really changed how this team looks
…Bolmaro gives Utah a playmaking wing. They need a floor spacer/small ball option at the 5 after losing Paschall, and then they could use another 3 and D wing piece, or possibly 2, to replace O’neal, and the spot they arguably still needed previously
In reality, they added a lot of defenders, so they could probably just grab a shooter at that spot and be ok
Leo has a looooong way to go before cracking a rotation, even without much in front of him in Utah rn. He was on a two-for us and played mediocre with our g-league team and nothing more than garbage minutes on the wolves. We had him stashed overseas and he played well in Barcelona before this season. Hopefully he can turn into a good facilitator and defender off the bench with some more knowledge in the league. Dude can rock a flashy pass tho, that’s for sure.
Wendell Moore Jr is gonna be better as a rookie (& beyond) & more impactful than ppl realize. I see him having a Derek Fisher/Shane Battier type role for Minny. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him as a guy Finch uses to defend high usage guards around 20mins/gm
Ya I’m a fan of him, if he can shoot it more too, he’s going to be very valuable. Has Josh Hart/an iguodala below the rim type game.
There goes my Mitchell to NY dreams unless they are just blowing up the whole team but I think this is to build around him
Mitchell to Miami
I think this is blowing up the team completely. Paschall and O’Neale gone (both were apparently close friends with Mitchell), Gobert traded, Snyder gone, and Mitchell’s choice of coach (reportedly) Johnnie Bryant passed over. They could get a major haul for Mitchell and have a crazy amount of picks to start over.
Unless they’re clearing way for a Durant trade, however.
Mitchell and Durant in Utah? Idk RCT
I don’t think so, either, but it’s theoretically possible.
Connelly has now traded Beasley and Vanderbilt twice
He knows theyre limited.
Awful fit with wolves.
Feel like I’m reading a fantasy league transaction list.
Interstate don’t thing twin towers work in today nba unfortunately. Who will play center for Utah? They are heavy guard now might trade for a center . Whitside is not a starting center for a deep play of team
Kessler
Terrible deal for Minnesota. All those draft picks to stay in the same place
Great deal for Utah, 3 unprotected picks, 1 lightly protected and a swap. Not sure Gobert is any better in the playoffs with this group than he was in Utah. He can be a 1 man defense in the regular season, but needs help with guys defending on the perimeter in the playoffs. Not sure who’s doing that Minnesota.
What a terrible trade for the wolves. If we were going to give up this many assets and draft capital, we should have got Murray.
The speciality of the Wolves: Big Man
Most of the Wolves depth: going to another big man
Honestly as a spurs fan I feel cheated out of a much better package when comparing the two different trades smh. Spurs only got 2 unprotected picks, and one lottery protected. They gave up so much more for Gobert. Honestly pissed now
Eh, few are going to like this deal for the Wolves. And it looks like the sticking point for them may have been the # of years on their respective contracts—-word is they were afraid Murray would leave in two years, so it makes sense they wouldn’t be willing to pony up as much for him. Plus, their need for a defensive-oriented big was significant.
That said, I didn’t like the return for Murray to begin with so I can’t say I’m not still a little miffed about it regardless.
Dejounte had 1 really good season were he was an All-Star, Rudy is a DPOY candidate every season and he will be that for at least 2 or 3 more seasons. IMO both trades seems kinda fair.
Gobert is entering his age-30 season, though. So while I wouldn’t expect him to rapidly decline, there’s some risk there.
Rudy had the bulk of his success in Utah. While Dejounte is gonna have more great yrs/gms/plays in Atlanta
At this point yes, but i can see this MIN roster getting more success than the Donovan – Rudy duo.
Ant is gonna be better than Donovan and KAT is already a better player than Donovan IMO.
Even if Rudy declines, and he will eventually, this MIN roster can be the best roster in terms of talent that he had.
Both trades, Murray and Rudy, seems like good trades for all parties involved.
Aye I love KAT but him & Spida been in the same division ever since they were in High Flying Bird together & Spida has been better every single yr. Compare what those 2 guys have done in the postseason & it’s not close. Also not close as to which team benefits the most from these 2 deals lol
The way it looks, those picks will be low. Murray is not worth his popular valuation right now.
Ot is hard to process.
Gobert should be a defensive anchor for 3 years mor at least, Edwards is in his rookie contract and will only get better. Maybe its a little bit of an overpay, but its MIN, they can only build , or try to, a contender by going all in. I like this move for them, yes they lost Pat Bev and Beasly but they can get some replacements and those pick will be low picks IMO.
Hey look everybody we found Sankara’s alt!!
Are the Jazz setting up for Durant?
Better yet, are the Wolves?
KAT is from NJ. Gobert, Durant, Edwards, and Russell isn’t too shabby.
What happens to Towns, could he be on the move?
Nope, twin towers (Kat goes at the 4)
Jazz win this trade. They get 3 (or 4) and a pick swap and the Wolves lose a lot of their depth and acquire something that they don’t necessarily need (another starting center).
KAT will obviously mov to the 4 where he is better suited lol
The two biggest problems with our roster last year (even more apparent in the Memphis series) were defensive rebounding and rim protection. Gobert (a dude I don’t really care for) is literally the best in the league at both of those things. KAT playing at the 4 with Gobert always a lob threat bailout means teams (like the jazz did to us last season) can no longer play a smaller guy on KAT to bring their center on a double.
Beas is streaky (always on high volume even when he’s 0/10) and a pretty bad defender. A three and z. But he’s got a lightning quick release and it’s fun to see him splash 11 3s in a game.
Bev hurts to lose more so as a culture changer for us. He made everyone bring it, own their s**t, and believe in the work. He’s still top tier defensively, but he’s slower now, and more prone to getting banged up the older he gets. He was likely gone by the trade deadline regardless.
Vando is a guy you don’t know how good he is unless he’s on your team, cuz he’s the ultimate effort guy. Complete energizer bunny on the court, great rebounder, and an elite level defender who can guard 1-4. He really hindered us last season due to his extremely limited offensive abilities (can’t shoot anywhere, basically just putbacks and dunks from the dunker spot). He can get you 10-14 points a night but then get played off the next game because he truly cannot shoot. I love him as a player tho and believe he makes an all-defensive team if he’s a starter at the 4 and they have a bigger big in the paint.
It may seem like that’s losing depth from the outside, but our problem was more so that we had a 13 deep roster. Vando and Beas were both DNPs from finch at some points due to our depth. We also picked up Forbes on a contract a 1/4 of the size of Beasley for relatively similar role. And Kyle Anderson who is not quite as good on d as Vando but infinitely better on offense.
The picks may seem like a lot but at least two of those were added to keep Jaden McDaniels, who I’m happy the front office is considering an essential part of this young core.
Holding draft stock for the future when you already have a team with young, generational talent (ant is 20 and KAT is 26) is ludicrous.
There’s no fair way to grade a trade until we see it play out but your reasoning for why the wolves lost is pretty off.
Well done Utah. KAT is the difference maker in Minnesota now. Used to be ANT but if KAT regresses at all from 3 they’re a fringe 8 seed
I’m not a fan of trading a stack of unprotected 1st’s that go far into the future. In lots of cases, such trades are not basketball trades. On the other hand, those picks, particularly for 2025 and beyond are the main value in this deal for UTH.
If that’s what Gobert brings back Nets will get 3 new starting players for KD plus 4 unprotected picks.
I knew Ainge was going to move Gobert.
I was hoping he’d take a deal around Ben Simmons so the Nets can go get Bam and then flip Gobert for more pieces.
Sean Marks got to move Simmons in order to get max value for KG.
Simmons has no value and a big contract, so the Nets are stuck with him.
you are overrating the Nets FO.
and you can’t get Gobert and flip him until December at least
Holy Overpay Batman. Who is drinking early?
Also, how does this even remotely move the needle for Donovan Mitchell? I mean this is the real take: Minnesota bailed Utah out of a terrible contract. I don’t care how efficient Gobert is, DPOY, he isn’t a premier scorer or 3 level threat and will never be worth that contract because you can’t build around him as the focal point of your team.
Maybe the twin tower model works in Minnesota, they are better now sure, but this the move. They traded away their assets that could be used to move DLo, so this says Dlo, Edward’s, KAT and Gobert is your championship squad.
Mitchell is getting dealt. Utah has to go into full rebuild mode here.
Utah did build around Gobert, and got the top W-L doing it. He’s just not used as a shooter.
Wolves do need a focus… Towns, Russell and Edwards are fairly random shot-getters, albeit good at that.
Hard to call a trade “winner”; so many pieces to interact or wait on.
Didn’t work in the Playoffs.
Pretty great haul for Utah. They get a legit nba starting 5 plus 4 1st rd picks. I saw a good # of ppl, including a majority of mainstream media ppl, saying Atl gave up a lot for Dejounte. We gave up 3 1sts & a player that neither team wanted for a 25yo borderline all-star, top10pg. Minnesota gave up 4 1sts & 5 rotation level players (at least 2 starters) for a 30yo borderline all-star, top5C that makes $47M/yr. I’ll say it again, Travis Schlenk currently has a Secretariat sized lead for GMOTY
Trader Danny strikes again!
This is like the AFC west where there’s non stop arms races going on.
This could be the start of a massive trade involving multiple teams. I think Mitchell is getting routed to Brooklyn through Phoenix with KD ending up in Phoenix and Ayton in Utah. No way Utah doesn’t blow go full rebuild here. Could even fold the Royce O’Neal trade into it also. I’m sure there is a way to include Kyrie going to LA and Westbrook going to Utah. It’s wild but I’m sure a path to all that happening is out there.
Agree, Utah is not done yet. Mitchell and Durant are moving.
Looks like Mitchell can’t go to Brooklyn with Simmons there. Someone could get Simmons fairly cheap just so Brooklyn can get Mitchell or Bam. Something big is on the horizon.
Good move for both teams. With KAT and Rudy the interior D will be amazing. They have a dynamic offensive backcourt in Edwards and Russell.
Kyle Anderson fits in well at SF. They are short on depth but there are lots of guys they can round out the roster with.
Danny Ainge is looking for buyers for Mike Conley and Bogdanovic now.
Rebuild around Donovan Mitchell.
Holy Overpay
Time for the Wolves to rebuild after winning their title last year….
If Rudy is worth 4-5 firsts and some good rotation players, what is KD worth? 20 firsts and 3 all-stars?
The problem I see with KD is his age and health. He’s amazing when he’s healthy. However, guys tend to have more injuries later on in their careers. That’s what usually ends quite a few talented careers. Your team would need to be able to withstand those times without him. The Suns are one of those teams, so it could work.
The Wolves have to win. A lot. For a long time. It’s as simple as that. If they don’t, this deal will look worse than it already does. On paper they look pretty good, especially since Towns will be flanked by Slo Mo and Gobert, but this is a huge amount to give up for a great-but-slightly-overpaid aging center.
I mostly agree with you because of the picks, but this fills out biggest needs with defense and rebounding. I think it’s worth going all in for those things. I bet there was a bidding war which caused us to throw in an extra first rounder.
Utah insisted on Jaden McDaniels in the talks, wolves added two of the 1sts to keep him in mn as part of the core.
Way too much to pay for Gobert, who I actually think is very valuable. Too many picks.
Utah’s +/- over the last several years when Gobert was off the court was terrible, when he was on the court it was elite.
Donovan’s +/- w/o Gobert is terrible and not good even when on with Gobert.
I know people hate advanced stats – but I don’t see how this trade is a win for Utah. Gobert is statistically one of the biggest difference makers in the game – a freak talent.
Assuming Gobert is healthy and he and KAT can figure out spacing, Minnesota will defy expectations (unless you look at advanced stats, and then they will be just as amazing as you expect).
The top teams in the playoffs are the teams that are the best defensively. The NBA finals had the top 2 defensive NBA teams.
Utah has ignored this and is going all in on a player who plays such bad defense that whoever he guards in the play-offs (Brunson is the latest) becomes an all-star.
My expectations (assuming everyone stays healthy):
– Utah becomes a fringe playoff team, Donovan demands a trade after next season.
– Minnesota finishes as a 3 seed, makes it to the conference finals
I can’t see Utah making the playoffs with this actual roster. DAL – POR – DEN – GSW – MEM – NOP – MIN – LAC – PHO and even LAL have all better roster thatn Utah.
Not sold on Portland. They very well may be and have made some good moves, but I think their range of expected outcomes includes some where the Jazz end up being better, depending on where they go from here.
I highly doubt the Jazz will keep all of those players. Danny Ainge loves to haggle. Pretty sure he’ll trade some of these players or possibly the picks as well. There’s more moves to be made.
To be fair, when you don’t give Gobert a ton of support on the defensive end and force him to do everything himself, it’s hardly surprising that the team would be much worse with him off the floor. Of course, that’s also a testament to his effectiveness.
In any event, I do agree that Gobert > Mitchell as it pertains to winning games.
It’s not a win, it’s an omission DM and Rudy have run it’s course. Credit them for cashing a high bill of sale tho, I didn’t think Rudy would get this much in the return. Im sure Utah woulda rather just had everybody kosher tho and ran it back
I really didn’t understand that O’Neil trade yesterday I must admit
They have Pat Bev now…they’re going to make the playoffs.
This seems like way too much for Gobert. Lot of picks. Unprotected picks.
Damm TWolves were going great great this offseason and then bam this move.
In fairness they have just given up a bunch of average/below average guys but that’s a bunch of first round picks.
For the Jazz that’s a load of role players to take back fo a team trying to contend. Though DAngelo Russell would’ve been the main piece if a deal ever did happen. Definitely going to be a bunch more deals.
I think the Jazz need to go after a big man that’ll give them 20-10, maybe Julius Randle or John Collins.
You said a bunch of ridiculous things but at the very end u somehow tripped into saying something that made sense. If John actually wants out of Atl (big if), I could see us trading him to Utah for Vanderbilt, Bojan & a couple of 1sts. He & Spida are good friends from way back & Utah would be the perfect situation for him to shine fr
What was ridiculous?
As for John Collins, yeah he surely has to be the betting favourite to come to Utah.
The Hawks wanted to move him before the draft and even looked into moving him again after the draft. He’s born and raised in Utah and he’s good mates with Donovan Mitchell. The move just makes complete sense.
As for what the deal looks like I doubt they give up multiple firsts. I can see it being based around Bogi plus another player or two and 1 first maybe 2 but definitely not more than that.
I mean Utah can give up Vanderbilt, Bojan & a couple 1sts for John or we can just keep him, either way is cool to me lol. Btw John wasn’t raised in Utah. Also Bogi is Bogdan Bogdanovic’s nickname. Bojan is Bojangles
Actually, they call him Bogey alot. I’ve heard Bojangles but not as much.
John Collins was raised in a military family. Makes sense he could’ve been born in Utah and raised elsewhere. Probably raised a bunch of places.
I’m on the fence about John Collins, though. If they can get him without giving up picks then I’d go for it. Bojan alone makes close to the same amount of money as Collins.
We gotta stop using the “friends” argument to try and build a case
Friends is what got Kyrie KD and Harden all to Brooklyn. It’s also what got Wall to the clippers, Melo and Russ to the Lakers, Dlo to the TWolves, etc etc
Exactly
MIN players don’t like to play defense, but now they don’t have to, as critically. They are freed up a bit, but to do what, isos?
Smart to sign Anderson too, he might be their point in effect.
Many Utah fans would rather have seen Mitchell dealt, or Conley, but the gain from Gobert was so worthy.
If Mitchell is dealt, interesting to compare the returns.
Agree, IMO Utah should trade Mitchell and reset the whole thing…
Now we can bring Tyus home!! Love this, but boy we had to give up a lot. Our bench is pretty non existent at this point, so Nowell really is getting the bigger role that Finchy talked about. We need a lot more bench scoring, I’d love to find a way to get Malik Monk, but that’s a huge longshot. Holy hell I’m excited. Instantly gives us top 10 defense and rebounding, which were the only reason Memphis beat us. Let’s goooo!
I think Malik Monk is going to the Kings.
Gd point, Nowell getting minutes from Beasley & Beverly. He may be the big winner in all this!
Wolves def gain in the win-now aspect.
Donnelly was hired to do something like this.
It clearly doesn’t matter who is put in charge of the Timberpuppies, the franchise has been cursed from the beginning back in 1989. If Connelly was trying to demonstrate what he was made of, he has clearly demonstrated that he is on par with and/or exceeded the ineptitude of his predecessors. The NBA should be investigating charging the Utah Jazz with RAPE !!
TWolves next season
1. Russell. McLaughlin
2. Edwards. Nowell
3. Anderson. Moore
4. KAT. Prince. McDaniels
5. Gobert. Reid
Plus they have a bunch more roster spots to fill now. Wait for a bunch of vets on the line to come. However I like the look of this team.
Jaden McDaniels is definitely their starting 3 going forward. But I definitely agree with liking how they look on paper
Minnesota’s GM will be fired after this upcoming season .
They just hired him!
I don’t like KAT at the 4 he’s too slow. But either way, got a good deal on Gobert.
I wouldn’t be shocked if they ship those picks(and more) with KAT to Nets for KD it’s not a terrible offer but with theirs tied to Houston til 27, they need picks bad and an AS 5 in his prime included. It is a better return than Hou got for Harden.
Lol KAT ain’t to slow just you wait
Lots of players will look better defensively with Gobert behind them.
But the picks went to UTA, not MIN.
I would not call the deal “good” yet, but there’s a good chance!
I should learn to read better! good catch &%.
But I stick to it, KAT is slow. Yes he’s a good 3pt shooter but I prefer his Interior play, outside of Embiid and Jokic he is the best 5 in league RN, gonna be crowed there this year.
I could be wrong and I’d be the first to hold my hands up, but I’m not sure.
With those open roster spots the Timberpuppies now have, they have the room to sign me to a contract NOT TO PLAY FOR THEM !!
I could have sworn that for the last few years, people were saying how KAT wasn’t a center and that he needed to be moved to power forward.
Then this trade happens. Those people are now saying why in the world did they trade for another center!? What a bad move!!
This new center happens to be a former DPOY and what the wolves have needed for years.
Big risk, but high reward.
KAT turned the ball over too much in the Grizz series. Not moving off Russell and adding to a position they are strong in doesn’t seem like the ideal move but they have been extremely active from the Draft on so I wouldn’t be surprised if more moves are coming from them.
KAT’s biggest downfall is trying to do too much with the ball and put the team on his back at times. When the dude let’s basketball play out and doesn’t try to force things, he can be great.
When KAT was off in that series and the LAC game…he might have been one of the worst players in playoff history. Literally. He was trying to foul himself out. And I was rooting for that to happen. And it hurts saying that. He made the games so hard to watch.
I think this is a game changer .. KAT is a stretch 4 , they needed a defensive stopper at the 5 .. they went and got the best one
The best part about this is Patrick Beverley in Utah. The Utah fans have been known to be well somewhat outdated in their thinking. Beverley has been known to be a bit aggressive with fans. The meeting of the two might be very good for the popcorn industry.
5 firsts is ridiculous. Utah cleaned up since Gobert is a complete liability come the postseason
Ugh Massive overpay by MN………..Losing Beverly is gonna hurt.
In todays gm. Not a fan of twin towers
KAT can’t guard the perimeter. I can see it as a weapon. Just not an offense.
KAT to the Knicks !!!!!!
Jazz fans should be ecstatic. Plus it makes me cringe when a team in any sport gives up that much for any one player.
I didn’t really want them to trade Gobert but if that’s the haul we get back I guess.
Seems a new trend is starting to emerge, instead of small ball like the Warriors and Rockets some teams are trying out 2 and 3 big man lineups. OKC with Holmgren and Pokuševski, Cleveland with Markkanen, Mobley and Allen, Boston with Horford/Williams/Tatum and Toronto with the entire team minus Van Vleet.
Nets get: kuzma, hachamura, Davis, Barton
Wiz get : kd
Wiz big 3 beal porzingas and kd means championship
Right away.
Small ball Warriors destroy this line up. Small ball any lineup really.
I’m sure that’s the thinking here with the Jazz. They’re looking to build for the future for when the Warriors and guys like Chris Paul, Bron, and KD are either too old or retired.
I like the direction the Jazz are going. They can go in so many ways with the assets they’re getting back. I’m sure they realized how limited they were without draft picks. Maybe they’ll go the OKC route and just stockpile a ton of draft picks?
It’s the direction that is so unknown. They did get assets back for sure. Some teams want to move their high-priced player for such as that, but cannot.
As long as Utah does not put Mitchell at PG…
I don’t think any of this is by choice
Utah would prefer to keep it’s stars as long as humanely possible is my belief. They just don’t attract in free agency.
Rudy and Dm’s marriage just couldn’t make it (I heard Rudy was getting handsy on the side )
I will say that I’m going to miss Royce and Gobert. Both made us legit on defense. They couldn’t seem to add another defensive wing so I get they went in a different direction. I’m excited to see what’s next? Go Jazz! =)
Twolves definitely paid a steep price. But it is not as bad as people are saying. Most of those 1st round picks will be outside the lottery. If for some reason things go horribly wrong for the Twolves and they need to rebuild, they can recoup those picks by trading KAT, Gobert and/or Edwards. Jazz definitely made out well, but I give Twolves a C+, not D or F. A team like the Twolves has to over pay and take risks given they aren’t a prime destination.
If the Wolves have some success and finish as a top 4 seed and advance in the playoffs their grade goes up and the value of the 1st round picks plummets and it is not an overpaying situation anymore.
People keep calling this a horrible trade. You can’t say that yet! It all depends on how good the Twolves are as a result.
Knicks could pounce on Mitchell.
Fournier, DRose, (4) 2023 1sts and a 2025 1st.
Ainge did it again, he rebuilt the Celtics with the Nets trade now UTAH thanks to Connelly who should be fired after this terrible trade
I was just scrolling down to say the same thing. Danny does it again! When it doesn’t work in MIN and everyone wants out, those unprotected 1st are gonna be huge
Glad it’s finally official! Now I imagine the Jazz can do more wheeling and dealing. Although, I really hope they hold onto as many of those draft picks as they can.
