Jericho Sims has shown so far during the Las Vegas Summer League why the Knicks were willing to give him a new three-year deal this offseason, writes Zach Braziller of The New York Post. In addition to averaging a double-double (13.5 PPG, 10.5 RPG) in his first two Summer League games, Sims has displayed intriguing mobility and play-making ability, putting the ball on the floor and bringing it up the court himself after grabbing rebounds.
“I’ve been working on pushing the ball in transition a little bit, trying to get more comfortable doing that again, making the right reads,” he said, per Braziller.
Sims’ three-year contract is worth just $2,000 above the minimum in 2022/23, with minimum salaries in years two and three, per Fred Katz of The Athletic (Twitter links). Katz adds that the first year is fully guaranteed, while the second year is partially guaranteed for $600K and the third year is a team option with a partial guarantee of $651,180.
Here’s more on the Knicks:
- Mitchell Robinson‘s strong relationships with his young teammates and other members of the organization played a major part in his decision to remain with the Knicks, according to Ian Begley of SNY.tv. “He had a number of opportunities,” a source familiar with Robinson’s thinking said of the center’s free agency. “He chose to be there.”
- DeSagana Diop, the head coach of the Westchester Knicks (New York’s G League team), is taking over as the head coach of Senegal’s national men’s basketball team, a source tells Marc J. Spears of Andscape (Twitter link).
- Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue believes Los Angeles’ former backup center Isaiah Hartenstein will be a good fit on his new team in New York, Braziller writes for The New York Post. “You can run stuff through him, he can make plays, he can make passes,” Lue told Braziller. “Defensively, he’s one of (Tom Thibodeau‘s) types of guys. He can switch at the five position, good in the drops. He’s very athletic and so he can do a lot of different things. He had a great year for us.” Although Lue would’ve liked to have Hartenstein back in L.A., he said he’s “happy for him, getting the contract he got.”
- In case you missed it, the Knicks finalized their Alec Burks/Nerlens Noel trade with the Pistons on Monday, clearing a path to officially sign Jalen Brunson and Hartenstein.
Cavs are the 8th seed
Knicks need a big trade to make playoffs
Mitch and RJ for Ayton
Via third team
So unbelievably horrible that I don’t understand why you even bothered typing it out.
I think it’s time for the concussion protocol process.
Lmao
Sims completely dominated Simonovic in the summer league game. After an impressive start in the first game Simonovic looked lost against Sims. If he’s going to be useful Simonovic is going to be expected to go against guys like the Knicks played in the game. I guess I see why Donovan is unimpressed with his consistency. After supposedly gaining 25 pounds of muscle and improving his conditioning in the offseason he was completely dominated.
2-0 in SL …..
Sims and Hunt have looked good for Knicks.
This is the yr Mitch has to take over. 10-12 rebs a gm. Top rim protector. And at least 10 pts a gm. Potential has to turn into effectiveness this yr. Man up.
Mitch has the potential to be an in his prime DeAndre Jordan. Just worried about his intelligence on defence holding him back from getting there.
Sign Feron Hunt to a standard deal like Sims and give the final 2-way spot to Jeffries. Bring both of them to training camp. Keels obviously needs the work and body fine tuning, he needs a full year in the G League. I like Montero and his defense, but offensively needs a little more work in the G League as well.
Knicks SL team is encouraging. Not just for the 2-0 record, but the fact that 3 guys leading the team are rising sophomores from the 2021 draft.
I’ll always remember the 2021 draft as the one the 2k’ers threw tantrums over on draft night, it was so horrible and perplexing to them. In addition to those 3, the booty from that draft (where they started with picks #19, #21, #32 and #58) includes Reddish, Jokubatis and two future seconds. The guys picked at the spots they traded out of were Kai Jones and Keon Johnson.
For most part. This FO has done well drafting talent. Sims was a great find. I love the FA signings (Brunson, Hartenstein). But ….
But I would have drafted Agbaji this yr. I got a good feeling about him. He’s a 2way star potential guy.
They have drafted well when they’ve pulled the trigger, and that’s all that’s important in the long term. There is usually value in trading down (even if it’s frustrating for the fans), and they’ve used that strategy fairly well.
Agbaji is a late bloomer that (I agree) would have fit very well with Thibs. But so do Barrett and Grimes, who I believe are better players. Fournier and Reddish may not be long term guys, but right now they need time on the wings as well. We have 4 PGs that could demand time. That’s a crowd already. So, I’d rather take the 3 future 1st’s vs loading the depth chart.
Grimes and Agbaji were part of the same recruiting class at Kansas. Both have come along way since, but Grimes (5 star) was certainly a better recruit and player than Agbaji (3 star) at that time, and I believe he’s still the more versatile player. In any event, he’s here, he’s cheap and he’s one of the culture guys among the younger players.
I like Grimes. Like him a lot more if he got his handle tight.
Unless I’m missing something Thibs still has to…ya know play him. Toppin looked great in SL too but Thibs seemed to think otherwise. Team needs to figure out if they are developing players or sitting them on the bench to lose value as Thibs goes hard after a play in tourney loss.
Well, getting rid of Noel, Burks, and Walker was a start. Should help Toppin get more playing time, but not sure how they divvy up the minutes between Brunson, Barrett, Rose, IQ, Grimes, and McBride. Even if Barrett moves to SF with Fournier on the bench, it’s still crowded.
Well, Rose will be injured 75% of the season (these things usually sort themselves out).
