While the Knicks continue to be viewed as the frontrunners to trade for Jazz star Donovan Mitchell, sources tell Shams Charania of The Athletic that talks between the two teams have moved slowly so far. New York and Utah remain far from an agreement, Charania adds.
As Charania explains, with three guaranteed years remaining on Mitchell’s contract and approximately two months until training camps begin, Utah has plenty of time to gauge the trade market and evaluate the best offers for the All-Star guard, so the club isn’t operating with a sense of urgency at this point.
Since word broke that the Jazz are open to inquiries on Mitchell, the Knicks have frequently been mentioned as his primary suitor, but they’re far from the only team in the mix, according to Charania.
Sources tell The Athletic that the Heat, Wizards, Raptors, Hornets, Hawks, and Kings have all registered some level of interest in the 25-year-old.
Mitchell hasn’t requested a trade and hasn’t pushed to leave Utah, says Charania. However, if the Jazz were to shift into full-fledged rebuilding mode, he would prefer to end up with a contender, per Charania.
Utah’s Rudy Gobert and Royce O’Neale trades earlier this offseason signaled that a rebuild could be on the horizon for the team. Still, it remains possible that the Jazz could use some of the draft assets acquired in those deals to trade for win-now help with the intent of retooling around Mitchell. The roster still features veterans like Mike Conley, Bojan Bogdanovic, Jordan Clarkson, Patrick Beverley, and Malik Beasley, so it’s not as if Utah has engaged in a full tear-down yet.
The Hawks? they have Murray and Trae, getting Donovan would make zero sense
I am fine now with the Hawks, Wizards,Raptors, Hornets, or the Heat getting Mitchell now. I’d be happy with trading Randle and 4#1 draft picks for Kevin Durant, though. Lets face the facts KD has always wanted to play for the Knicks! Lolololol! It seems like the perfect punishment for him for signing that extension with the Nets!
Randle has a negative contract why would the nets want him. And they not trading KD to the Knicks under any circumstances
Bogdan, Onyeka & Jalen plus our unprotected 2023 1st, Sac’s lottery protected 2024 1st & our top3 protected 2029 1st for Spida would work for me. If we could get Jarred Vanderbilt as well that would be goals. Utah getting a 4th 1st rd pick in next summer’s loaded draft would be great for them but is probably a given in any Mitchell trade. Gettin a top center prospect like Onyeka, still on his rookie deal with alr alot of playoff experience & future all-star type talent, is probably the headline. Jalen Johnson is a possible future all-star at the 4 as well tho. Hawks didn’t have any room in the rotation wuth JC & Gallo entrenched ahead of him but he was fairly dominant in the G-League as a rookie & projects to be an extremely versatile, productive forward. They could sit Bogdan this season to help them tank & to help him fully recover from his nagging injuries… obv acquiring Spida would strengthen the Hawks immensely. DeJohnTrae + Spida/Clint/Dre is a ridiculously strong core & we’d still have plenty of 2nd rd picks to find good role players to surround those guys with
Trae and Donovan sharing the court will be really good on offense, on paper, and a horrible match on defense.
And Angie will laugh at your offer.
Trae went to the ECF & was tied 2-2 w/ the eventual champs playing alongside Kevin Huerter & Bogdan Bogdanovic. Replacing those 2 with Don & Dejounte is a definite upgrade defensively. And the offense wouldn’t just be good on paper lol. It would clearly be 1 of the most potent offenses, on the court, that you’ve ever seen in your life… if Utah can get more elsewhere more power to em. Hawks are built to contend now & for yrs to come with or without Mitchell. Onyeka, Jalen & Bogdan are defined a better haul than Quickley, Obi & Grimes or something like that but I definitely think Orlando could offer more than anyone
If they can add allstar talent they should, like every team, even if on paper the pairing has some flaws.
Still, its impossible to trade for Donovan for Atlanta IMO.
Bogdan, Onyeka & Jalen plus our unprotected 2023 1st, Sac’s lottery protected 2024 1st & our top3 protected 2029 1st for Donovan will never match Ainge price and can easily be beaten by other offers.
Lol impossible? Not even close to being impossible. Hawks have numerous other talented young players that I didn’t even put in this offer, namely DeAndre Hunter. Utah would obv have heavy interest in acquiring Hunter plus Okongwu plus recent 1st rd picks like AJ Griffin or Jalen Johnson along with numerous future 1sts. Its extremely possible for Atl to trade for Spida or even KD… But feel free to name any of the numerous offers that can beat the offer I just made of Onyeka, Bogdan, Jalen plus 3 1sts for Mitchell…
Hunter is the more valuable young player ATL has, but still he is not as promising as other young prospects. ATL picks has less value than the NYK Knicks picks and ATL has sent their draft picks in the Dejounte Deal so their draft capital isn’t there.
Utah wants the more valuable draft picks they can get or really good prospects with rookie deals, not soon to be expired if possible, and the picks ATL can offer are not that valuable.
We sent 2 of our 1sts to SA for Dejounte but we have more available to trade… again, feel free to name these other prospects that you feel are more valuable than Dre… I just named a bunch of young prospects the Hawks could trade that are still on their rookie deal. Hunter, Okongwu, Johnson & Griffin plus we have a few others… whatever future 1st rd picks Utah gets for Spida aren’t gonna be that valuable bc Spida will be on that team. Even a perennial lottery team like NYKs future 1sts won’t be as valuable after they have Donovan Mitchell on the roster. This is a guy that hasn’t come close to missing playoffs ever in his career. Hawks future 1sts might be slightly less valuable than NYK’s but ofc they’re giving up better young players which is what Utah would emphasize anyway
But would he want to go to Orlando.
Why wouldn’t he? He was happy playing in Utah. Plus Orlando is gonna have a much more fast paced style that is more suited to his game. Jahmaal Mosely is a players type of coach. GHill & T-Mac picked Orlando. Hard to beat the weather there during the season. Plus tbh it’s not really up to him. If Orlando is confident he’ll show up that could be enough to go ahead & pull the trigger
Once again, Orlando has shown absolutely no interest in trading for Mitchell. Please cite a source to the contrary.
Lol how would you know who the Magic are interested in? And doesn’t it just make common sense that any nba team would have some type of interest in acquiring Donovan Mitchell if possible? Especially a team that has struggled to score over the past few seasons & has a large hole at 2guard? Why is it so important that a journalist say it for it to make sense to you?
“Lol how would you know who the Magic are interested in?”
lmao, my point is, how do *YOU* know? You mention them on every article, and every time you do, I ask you for a source to back up their interest. You never provide one because there aren’t any.
I’m not claiming to have any idea who the Magic are interested in. I’m asking you to point me to a rumor or article that shows the Magic have any interest whatsoever in Mitchell because you keep bringing them up whenever Mitchell is mentioned. Do you work for the Magic or something? Because if they end up trading for him, you’ll be like the only person on the internet who called it.
I belive Bill Simmons was someone that suggested that ORL should trade for Donovan. Maybe im wrogn, but i have never read any report of them actually going for Donovan. If they decide to go for him they can make the best offer possible IMO. Wagner + tons of picks + fillers can get it done.
Jalen Suggs, Franz Wagner, RJ Hampton, Moritz Wagner, Terrence Ross & however many 1sts as it takes is more than anyone can offer & its not even close to their best possible offer
I never provide any link to any articles bc I couldn’t care less what any journalist has to say about it tbh. I’m not sayin Orlando is gonna trade for Donovan Mitchell. I’m saying they make the most sense as the team that should trade for him. He fits their team perfectly & they have the most to trade for him. Did Woj or Skip Bayless or some sportswriter have to plant that idea in my head? Of course not. It’s just sorta obv if you allow yourself to think about it & not just blindly go with what mass media is telling you to think. If you really wanna be told that the Magic should trade for Mitchell by media then do like I told u before & google it. Or do like I also told u before & think for yourself
How many times do you need to say it.
We got it Orlando should do it.
And after they give up everyone. Why would DM want to play there. You need an article to tell you Magic are far away from competing.
Atleast NY is home for DM. And NYC is a place any star would want to have sucess. What star EVER stayed in Orlando. Mickey Mouse.
And before you lose yourself. I’m not on the DM bandwagon.
What the hell do I or the Jazz care whether Mitchell wants to play there??? Do you hear yourself. He has no say. None. Nada. He has no options. He is in long contract. He can demand all he wants. Who cares. And what player ever succeeded in New York in 25 years. You wish you had Orlandos record and finals and playoff appearances. In what world do you think NY is relevant or has even sniffed it in 30 years. What star ever stayed in NY? Melo? No. ‘Marbury? No. New york has only signed one rookie to an extension in 22 years. Delusional
No one cares what you think ninkinpookie. We care what Jazz and Donovan think. And if your small mind cat see it then. Enjoy the grief.
Orlando??????? wow do I really need to say anything.
@rct
Can’t blame an Orlando fan for not being able to point to an article which the source was from fan BS, speculation and made-up stuff because Orlando area journalism don’t do that. Actually, most places on earth doesn’t do that. It’s only in NY where you can find articles which the source was fan BS, speculation and made-up stuff. When Orlando gets “journalists” like Mike Lupica, Steven A. Smith, Anthony DiComo, Matt Cerrone, etc. then I’m sure that Orlando fan will find articles to match the stuff he’s speculating, having a pipe dream about or offering plain BS for. Until then, he won’t find anything, and NY always will have those types of articles available.
Who is the orlando fan? And who are the knicks. Think about. So some research. Kings, raptors, wizards, heat all have better players in their offer. If knicks do nothing fine with any of the others
Oh right – of course. The impeccable ethics of Orlando’s local journalists, that’s it
Dude, you realize 99.999% of credible rumors are now broken by either Woj or Shams, neither of whom are affiliated with any city or franchise?
The thought of Mike Lupica breaking a Donovan Mitchell trade genuinely made me laugh though, so thank you for that.
Espn and Fox do it all the time. And they are national
You bring up the Hawks run every chance you get and never bring up the fact they went through the Knicks (LOL) and saw the collapse of the Sixers to make it to the ECF and let’s all be honest, didnt have a snowballs chance in hell to beat the Bucks even with a less than 100% Giannis. I mean they were a Bens Simmons spine away from a 2nd round elim…. Please enlighten me on what ATL has done since then besides miss the playoffs and over pay John Collins. Please.
I definitely bring up that postseason run everytime somebody shows that they clearly forgot about it & need to be reminded lol. But umm wtf are you talking about? We were the underdog in the NYK series. They had absolutely destroyed us during the season, especially their prime, all-nba forward. This was also the best defensive team in the league & had home court adv & a supposedly tough fanbase lol. Nobody was laughing at the Knicks that season tho. The reason u do so now is largely bc of the Hawks.. Philly was the best team in the East & had the best (top2 at worst) player in the league that season. Much like the NYK series, Phillys highly respected head coach got thoroughly outcoached by Nate McMillan. Much like the NYK series we stole home court in gm1 by dominating throughout & letting the home team come back & almost win late in the 4th. Philly didn’t collapse in that series & esp in that gm7 for no reason tho. Hawks came in & tore them down. Did it with 2 of our starters playing zero minutes in the series.. lol u obv don’t remember that Atl/Mil ECF series. The series was tied 1-1, we had stolen home court & we were winning at home late in the 3rd qtr of gm3 when Trae got hurt. If not for that injury Hawks win the title that yr. Bucks couldn’t do nothing w Trae plus Cam was ready to come back the next game. We won gm4 without Trae but he actually hurt us by trying to play in gm6 when he clearly wasn’t ready & the more experienced Bucks earned their W. Ben Simmons was easily the best defender on Trae during that postseason tho. It’s a trip how ppl forget that
“If not for that injury Hawks win the title that yr.”
Ok.
No more questions you honor.
You think Philly would beat em right?
Beyond all the rose tinted bable I noticed you avoided the question I asked about what they’ve done since the miracle run. I can answer for you. NOTHING. You have a misguided view of this team because its your favorite team. I encourage you to become a Kings fan so you can see with clear eyes.
This is now Twice I have answered your question directly. There are 4 trades not counting knicks that are better than hawks who you are a homer for. They are all realistic and all being reported. You are not close. Not personal. Just business.
Wrong. Kings can do keegan murray, davion, barnes and three picks. Better than knicks. Raptors can do flynn who is a first round pick and OG and trent with 3 picks. Better than knicks. Charlotte can do rozier, 4 picks. Bouknight and Mark williams their 1st round pick this year. Better than knicks deal. Wizards can give Rui, Denji, Davis. They were 19,20,21 first round draft picks. Then three more picks and kuzma for salary. All of these are better than knicks. Only advantage knicks have are more picks. The knicks have extreme competition now by waiting and if Orlando jumps in game over. They will burn Leons office down
HawkHomer …… doesn’t get what happens to yesterday’s news.
Not happening without collins not bogdan and its another pick too or hunter. Or they take better offer from raptors, heat, Sacramento or even Charlotte and no you are not getting Vanderbilt too. Come on man
Feel free to name any offer you feel is better than Onyeka, Jalen, Bogdan & picks

We all know what the Heat offer is (Herro and Duncan and picks) and it seems unlikely Danny will like that better than even a mediocre NY offer.
Hawks have nothing left in the coffers to offer, other than Collins, who makes no sense if Dan is trying to tank.
Wizards also have nothing, although them somehow having to pay Mitchell, Beal, and Porzingis to get a play-in spot in the East would be amusing.
Raptors can probably make a Durant-lite offer, but again: useful players like Anunoby don’t have as much value to a team attempting to go the Presti route. Sure you can flip them *down the line* – but you could win crucial games in the mean-time and lessen your chance at the 7-5 guy!
Hornets could do picks attached to Hayward’s contract, for a nice little homecoming (kind of…), but again hard to believe the draft comp will equal NYs.
Basically the only thing these teams can do is just buffer the market for NY to match. In some ways this is just like the Ayton RFA deal … the decision will ultimately be up to Rose and Co if they want to match or exceed the competing offers.
I’m gonna guess you didn’t see the comment above yours where I spelled out exactly what the Hawks could offer, no Collins necessary
I’m guessing you didn’t see the widely reported Knicks offer of Grimes, Quickley, Toppin and (5) firsts.
Utah wants (7) firsts.
Why would they take (3) firsts from Atlanta for a vet who doesn’t fit their timelines, a guy who averaged 2ppg as a rookie, and (1) good prospect.
Plus, your 2023 “unprotected pick” will be late teens as best. Sacramento’s lottery protected pick will never convey because SAC is on track to miss the playoffs in perpetuity. So 2/3 of those picks are low value 1sts.
Basically, unless Ainge is irrationally high on Okon that package isn’t even close to NYK’s with or without JC.
I definitely haven’t seen that widely reported offer lol but that doesn’t change my point about the Hawks having way more to offer than John… Bogdan definitely fits Utah’s timeline. This isn’t the type of franchise that’s gonna tank for multiple seasons. Bogdan can have surgery & recoup this season while Utah tanks. He’ll come back & ball out his contract season & Utah can choose to resign him or not after that… You expose yourself as someone who doesn’t know about Jalen Johnson smh. I recommend doing a lil research on him. Acquiring a young frontcourt like Jalen & Onyeka plus a tough, efficient, experienced starter level big guard like Bogi is a really nice boost to Utah’s rebuild. I might even be talked into adding another young forward, AJ Griffin, to the mix if Utah makes a fuss & throws in Rudy Gay. That’s 4 guys that are arguably more valuable than any of the 3 guys in your Knicks offer. Also NYK’s 2023 1st is also late teens at best if they trade for Mitchell. Same for almost any team that trades for him… Now if NYK is willing to add Cam &/or give up 6or7 1sts then you gotta tip your cap to Utah for getting so much for their 2 former stars esp after losing their last 2 stars (DWill & Hayward) for not much. Knicks prob should go all in tbh. But even them going all in isn’t enough to beat Orlando’s 3rd or 4th best offers
You expose yourself as someone who consumed one too many edibles before logging on when you suggest a 29 year old often injured 2 guard fits the timeline of a team that just traded it’s All-NBA center and is the process of trading it’s All-NBA 2 guard.
Simply put, if Utah wasn’t going to tear it down to the bone marrow they wouldn’t be shopping a 25 year old All Star with 3 years on his contract who hasn’t requested a trade. It’s really that simple – conversation over.
Atlanta has no future-forward offer that would put them in the running for Mitchell.
There’s a big difference between listening to offers and shopping a player. They’ve drawn their line in the sand and if a team isn’t willing to pay through the nose for Mitchell they aren’t going to trade him.
With the exception of Giannis, Jokic, Curry, Luka and Embiid every player in the league can be had for the right offer.
So what would constitute “shopping a player” by the above definition?
You admit Utah has both A) listened to offers, and B) made counter-offers.
So Ainge has to start making unsolicited calls to all 30 teams saying, “Hey, do you want Donovan Mitchell by any chance?” for Utah to be “shopping” him?
Every player in the league can be had for the right offer, but only a handful are actively discussed in trade rumors at any given time.
When such players are I would argue it’s appropriate to say they’re being “shopped” by their team.
They wouldn’t have moved Rudy. Hawk Homer just loves to see his posts.
Ah. Finally he gets it some. Yes no trade without griffin and no you are not getting vanderbilt. By all means explain to us Johnsons value as a guy who literally quit on his Duke team and didn’t crack rotation last year. By all means tell us that great value. You love onyeka so much that you have retread capella starting over him and the guy is going into his third year. Just try some research
Your wasting your time. He doesn’t get it. Again there are four other trade discussions happening now that are better than atlantas and new york

“Only advantage is Knicks have more picks” – you just countered your own argument. What Utah wants is picks, and the Knicks can offer them more than almost any other team.
IMHO it’s going to be a compromise in which they’ll drop the number of picks to 5 and take a couple of swaps. Personally, I’d send 6 and a bottle of whatever Danny drinks if they take Fournier off our hands as well.
Happy to take Fournier. Its not about the filer. Easy take. But the 6 picks have to come
I don’t see why the Knicks just don’t do it. Grimes, McBride, Fournier, 6 #1’s – just do it.
Wrong. Kings can do keegan murray, davion, barnes and three picks. Better than knicks. Raptors can do flynn who is a first round pick and OG and trent with 3 picks. Better than knicks. List the best pre-extension players and start the list from there. Maxey, Herro, Mobley, Barnes, Franz, Melo, Edwards, Cade, Kuminga, Wiseman.
That’s Danny’s shopping list.
I’d remove Wiseman from the list.
Mobley, Barnes, Edwards, and Cade are basically untouchable.
Franz could be the baseline of a trade. Kuminga maybe as well. Herro probably not.
Maxey is probably the most interesting player on the list given Philly’s timeline.
But again Danny doesn’t seem interested in maxing out anyone any time soon. All signs seem to point to him going full Presti on this re-build.
Ya whether he can get a guy for DM is another question but that’s the list. I think if Wiseman is traded it’s in combo with Kuminga or Moody.
Keep him, trade all that stuff you got for Rudy and give that plus 2 more of your own 1st rounders and get Durant and then STFU when all you have is maybe at best a top 3 team in the west and still have to deal with the suns and warriors and don’t forget clippers Memphis lakers Portland nuggets etc
It’ll be interesting to see if the Heat actually trade for Mitchell or Durant. The Heat aren’t entirely in a situation where they would need to overpay for either. They can see if Herro can develop further into a difference-maker for them as he matures along with Bam.
The two teams haven’t talked in two weeks, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium. The news comes after New York backed away from a reported offer in mid-July of six future first-round draft picks, plus Quentin Grimes, Immanuel Quickley, Obi Toppin and Miles McBride for the 25-year-old Westchester native.

If this offer is or was True. The Jazz are fools. I’d never give up Obi1. They got 4 picks and at best TWO rotation players. For what ? To tank with next year.. …. wake up America.
No one has more picks to offer than Knicks. But I’m not giving up more than 4. Cause the players who will be involved. Are much better than the ones they got from TWolves.
