The Nets are finding it difficult to deal Kevin Durant in part because suitors are unwilling to “gut their roster” to acquire the perennial All-Star, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski said on SportsCenter (video link).
Those bidders want to ensure they still “have enough left” after a Durant deal to win a championship, Wojnarowski adds. However, the Nets front office isn’t in any rush to get a deal done.
“Brooklyn does want to trade Kevin Durant,” Wojnarowski said. “They’re serious about it, but they want to do it on their terms.”
We have more regarding Durant trade chatter:
- Echoing Wojnarowski’s report, executives told Heavy.com’s Steve Bulpett that any team acquiring Durant has to be sure it can win the championship immediately. “KD’s going to be 34 at the start of next season, and he’s still a superstar,” one executive told Bulpett. “But depending on what you give up, if you’re a contender now, you’d have to be pretty damn sure you were going to win more in the window with KD than with the people you trade away.”
- Why did reports about the Celtics’ interest in Durant surface this week? According to The Athletic’s Jared Weiss, the Nets are looking for stronger offers in order to avoid the possibility of Durant being a no-show for training camp.
- In a much different take, unnamed executives suggested to Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer that the Nets’ demands are so significant because they have no real desire to move Durant.
- There has been no traction in talks between the Nets and Raptors in a potential Durant deal, according to Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated. That’s due to Toronto’s continued refusal to trade forward Scottie Barnes.
Scottie Barnes is overrated. Good player but I don’t think his ceilling is much higher than how he played this year. Id do Durant for Tatum with a 1st round draft pick attached to him
Sillivan?
you dont know ball
The Celtics made Jayson Tatum untouchable.
Tatum is going to win more than KD. KD is not Worth Tatum or Brown.,
Celtics wouldn’t.
They should hold onto him. He will sprain a knee or tear something and not be available at any point this year. Greedy Gretchen Nets will still be the same ole Nets. Maybe Cryree will agree to play 12 games this year for them.
suitors are unwilling to “gut their roster” NO duh!!!
Lebron for durant straight up!! Come on!!
Lil bronny?
That would actually be interesting. Good post
El Don?
Celtics deal is best deal the Nets will get. They are dumb to not go for it
If that “deal” was even real.
KD’s value (note: this isnt a trade, just value) is Andrew Wiggins and Moses Moody and nothing more. Why are they being so psychotic requesting GSW trade their entire “second timeline” they spent so much time hyping? Nets are such a moron franchise, always have been always will be.
GSW are not trading for KD. The weird thing is when he left for the Nets all GSW got was Russel who was traded for Wiggins and Kuminga with the draft pick. So why do they think he is worth twice as much as the GSW got for him in the trade?
He left as a FA. He did Nets and Warriors a favor by accommodating a SnT. It was best for both teams. It wasn’t a trade for value.
I view
Brown has more value than Scottie Barnes
Your I view is my view also . Barnes is still very raw. Brown is a budding superstar. I love his aggression, his willingness to take over, his work ethic.
Age 20
Brown/Scottie B
PER: 10.3/16.3
TS%: .539/.552
VORP: -0.6/1.9
Counting: 15/8/3/1 for Barnes. Not even worth putting JB stats out there.
To get anywhere close to Barnes we have to jump to year 4 for JB.
It’s not even close for value. If the Raptors said yes to Barnes right now the Nets don’t even call Celtics back.
Whoa, whoa. What are you bringing stats and ages into this?
No way man. Jaylen Brown is acctuellly better than Kevin Durant, didn’t you hear? Celtics have to Run It Back /s
Experts disagree.
No point comparing the 2, bc it sounds like including Scotty is a hard No.
Brown is the best player the Nets will get, I think the most the Raps offer is OG and Gary Trent Jr + picks.
Durant is great but for how much longer! If makes a comment to the Celtics! Then no way I make this trade! If he wants out then I do the trade but for no more than what has been offered!
Just tell teams okay Friday is it best offer, or we are shutting this convo down until the trade deadline.
Only a team that considers itself a contender (pre-KD) should even be thinking about trading for KD. While he can help any team, KD’s special level of talent is only worth trading for if you’re using his talent to convert very good into great. There are other, younger, less expensive, lower maintenance, players that can turn good into very good.
TOR isn’t a contender, so it’s understandable they wouldn’t want to discuss trading Barnes. Whatever his ceiling is, it’s certainly a not KD-like ceiling, and it’s very unlikely he will ever be a first option for any team.
Good post!
I like the idea of handsome offers from Suns or Heat via third team
Why?
Without Durant, Suns and Heat will win nothing
They are just not good enough
Paul and Lowry look older
FVV/Barnes/KD/Siakam/Precious plus Porter/Boucher and a couple other bench pieces would be a definite contender.
He said pre-KD trade contenders. So like a Top-4 team in either league.
Nets should of went for Ayton …….
They will regret it.
Ayton doesn’t suck but 1:1 Ayton and picks? That’s your return for KD? I’d rather go for a package with a Wing player tbh. As great as Embiid and Joker are, it’s harder to build around a Max Level Center. Like the Wolves have won jack and now they have two super max Centers.
“…suitors are unwilling to “gut their roster” – so, the CBA is working, right?
Brooklyn should be happy to do a KD for Brown, White and Grant Williams plus some first deal.
As an outsider it seems like a bad decision by Boston. But, I have no doubt they would have enough good prices after the trade to compete still. Plus throw in some vets on min deals to fill out the roster. A former player or two like Isiah Thomas, Rojan Rondo and Avery Bradley, would be cool to see return along with a wing like Kent Bazemore.
Brogdan Smart Tatum KD Rob Will
IT Bradley Bazemore Gallo Horford
Not that it’s the right decision but it would be cool to see this team come together. IT and Bradley return, KD and Tatum as a duo. Would be a solid team.
As for Brooklyn they should get this deal done sooner rather then later so they can turn their attention to trading Kyrie Irving.
Miami I have heard is a possible suitor, howeve their package (Lowry, Robinson and Jovic) looks pretty weak.
I think an intriguing idea would be Washington. Kyrie for KP and Kispert. KP would be a solid fit because of his height and shooting ability. Kyrie and Beal would be very entertaining.
From Brooklyn’s perspective they should try Kyrie for Micheal Porter Jr but I doubt the Nuggets make that deal. However Simmons Brown and Porter Jr would be a fire trio.
@Simmons>Rus
Why would Brooklyn be happy with the trade you mention? Great for the Celtics, bad for the Nets. Even if they added Smart, not necessarily an even trade.
And I don’t get why you think unplayable Bazemore will be signed anywhere by anybody.
It’s a great deal for the Nets what are you talking about. Last season you had KD Kyrie and Harden and it all fell apart and you got swept in the first round. KD is signed to a massive contract both years and guaranteed money owed to him and he’s about to be 34 years old and already had a huge injury.
KD demanding a trade is actually a good thing for the Nets and tbh couldn’t have come at a better time. You’ve just flipped Harden for Simmons and got a first which meant you didn’t lose him in FA. Now you deal KD while his value is still really high and then you get rid of Kyrie next.
As for Bazemore I just there him in as a suggestion cause they look light on depth on the wing after a Jaylen Brown trade. I couldn’t think on many better free agents available
In almost every historical case there simply is no “even trade” for someone of Kevin Durant’s caliber.
But Brooklyn is also hampered by the following:
1) They don’t own their future picks, so they have no incentive to tank (i.e. get future asset heavy returns)
2) Because they traded for Ben Simmons, every max rookie extension guy (Bam, etc) they could theoretically build on the fly around can’t be traded to them unless Simmons is traded first
Add those two conditions together and it’s doubtful BK will get a better return than Jaylen Brown + stuff
suitors are unwilling to gut their team.
Yet Knicks are suppose to do it for DM. The double standard is enjoyable
Knick you and I should finally agree. Knicks would be Outrageously short sighted to gut their roster for Mitchell.
DM alone doesn’t vault them into the Top 4 in the East.
Sexton, k love and 5 firsts for KD
(Darn)
As currently constructed, the CELTS, BUCKS, HEAT & SIXERS are the top-tier in the East ……… RAPTORS & BULLS next tier ……. HAWKS, CAVS, WIZARDS & HORNETS are play-in teams.
The MAGIC & PISTONS should be fun to watch.
Enough of this trade posturing and back and forths.
A physically healthy KD and a mentally-healthy Kyrie should stick with the NETS for a last dance of sorts and give us the most competitive East in a long time.
