Hornets forward and restricted free agent Miles Bridges has been charged with felony domestic abuse in Los Angeles County, tweets Steve Reed of The Associated Press.
A press release from the L.A. County District Attorney’s Office stated that Bridges is facing multiple charges — one felony count of injuring a child’s parent and two felony counts of child abuse under circumstances or conditions likely to cause great bodily injury or death. The case also includes an allegation of causing great bodily injury on the domestic violence victim.
Arraignment is scheduled on Wednesday at L.A. County Superior Court.
“Domestic violence creates physical, mental and emotional trauma that has a lasting impact on survivors,” DA George Gascón said in a press release. “Children who witness family violence are especially vulnerable and the impact on them is immeasurable. Mr. Bridges will be held accountable for his actions and our Bureau of Victim Services will support the survivors through this difficult process.”
The alleged assault of the victim occurred on or about June 27 or June 28, according to the criminal complaint. The case remains under investigation by L.A.’s Police Department, the release adds.
Bridges was just days away from potentially signing a massive new deal with the Hornets or an offer sheet from a rival team before he was arrested. His NBA future is now up in the air.
Can’t imagine another team in free agency will touch him with a ten foot pole after these charges. If he and his agent knew this was coming, why did they not accept the qualifying offer? I suppose Charlotte missed the deadline for pulling it, so pie is on their face too.
Wait so Charlotte can basically do nothing here? Is there some sort of process in which the NBA bans him from playing so he can’t just accept free money?
Wow! That’s awesome how by law, you’re also accountable for how your violence also hurts the child or children. It’s true that if a child witnesses that, or if that child’s care taker is now hurt it deeply impacts the child too. I wonder if NY has those same laws. But I couldn’t agree more, and I hope he faces the same punishment a non rich and famous citizen would.
I hope he never plays again, what a loser
One has to really screw up to be charged with a crime by LA County’s DA
Haha
True
Yep. It must’ve been real bad for those charges
Scumbag
I don’t think CHA needed to withdraw the Q/O. It will expire on a date certain (Oct 1st I believe). I don’t believe they are running any real risk of him accepting it (or trying to) prior to that. It would only trigger an immediate suspension from the league.
But would he still get paid during the suspension?
pretty sure all suspensions are without pay
No
During a league suspension? NO. If properly advised, he’ll do nothing to force the league’s hand until he has some clarity on his future.
I have no ideas from what means he came from. Born rich or poor. But it amazes me how those living the rich life constantly get in front if their on blessings and miss things up.I get it, a woman might drive you crazy, but short of her putting you in bodily harm, never, ever ever, put your hands on em like that. I’ve shakin’ the sugar out of a woman who tried to put her hands on me but never assault them. Leave, avoid and report THEM if they become physical but it will never be a happy ending if you hit them.
Too bad, such a talent, who would say he’d throw his career away like that.
When keeping it real goes wrong.
What a lowlife!
Hope he goes to prison & has plenty of time to think about what he has done!
The NBA needs to make an example out of him and suspend him for a long time whne he is found guilty It looks like he will get jail time which he truly deserves!
Lol!!! These comments are off the rails!!!
Do you disagree with any of them?
Another piece of garbage
I’m not condoning it, but he’ll be back. They always come back.
